Parent Numeracy Workshop 3.5 Annotation 3.5.1: Numeracy workshop presentation This evidence displays the Numeracy Workshop Presentation. It involves teaching parents numeracy strategies that they could use to support their child at home. Parents were informed about how the whole school was utilising RINSE with every student. This information was provided to parents in a folder to take home. The workshop showed parents how they can help their children overcome maths anxiety and in addition how they can encourage a growth mindset in their children. Support was provided for guardians who required an Arabic translator. Annotation 3.5.2: Parent attendance Approximately 40 parents attended the numeracy workshops. Parents were involved in learning about strategies and a whole school approach to using the RINSE process. Annotation 3.5.3: Promoting the numeracy workshop to parents The workshop was promoted to parents in a number of ways. This included a brochure, text message and a letter that was translated into Arabic. Additionally, on the school Facebook page a flyer was posted and also handed out to students. Numeracy team members called parents and invited them personally. In regard to the initial workshop held in 2018, it was important for parents to have an overview of the workshop before they attended. Parents’ feedback has been taken into account. It was suggested that additional workshops would build their confidence in numeracy and as a result will benefit their child. Brochure Letter in English and Arabic On Facebook Text Annotation 3.5.4: Parent Feedback Parents were surveyed at the end of the workshop to gather feedback. All parents indicated that they felt much more confident supporting their child with numeracy. A number of parents suggested that additional workshops could build their own confidence in numeracy. As a result later workshops included sessions on using a calculator and working numerically.
