PSP Annual Report 2016-17
Established in 1992, Param Shakti Peeth (PSP) is a non-profit, non-governmental and
independent humanitarian organization proactively engaged in mainstreaming the
`marginalized’ members of the society, prioritizing children & women.
The breadth of our grass-root interventions (viz., child care & protection, youth
development, women empowerment, community health, disaster response) allow us to
conclusively reduce the daily struggles of the unserved and underserved population we
serve, while further assisting them gain greater control of their lives.
In doing so, we also endeavour to mitigate the socio-economic inequalities prevailing in
India that are detrimental to inclusive development, while also fostering the shared
responsibility of realizing the objectives set forth in the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
With almost two and a half decade of serving the communities PSP is one of the most
appreciated self-implementing NGOs with Pan-India presence. Its one-of-a-kind family
based model of rehabilitation of abandoned / parentless children (including children
w/special needs), destitute women / widows (VatsalyaGram-Vrindavan) has been
recognized globally and features in the `Golden Book of World Records’ for its unique
concept.
Through its presence in the states of U.P., M.P., Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, PSP is reaching
out to and positively impacting lives of thousands of community members living on margins.
The genre of members being currently served includes : parentless / abandoned /
community children; children with special needs & disabilities; backward tribal girls;
destitute women / widows; community youth; impoverished community members and
disaster-affected communities.
By improving the delivery of our services to the existing beneficiaries and expanding our
community outreach programs (new projects under various stages of development in
Gujarat, H.P. & West Bengal), we at PSP reiterate our commitment (shared throughout the
team) to serve the people living on margins and also continue to add value for bridging the
societal disparities aligned to our motto, Working towards the holistic development of
India.
What WE do
“There are two primary choices in life : to
accept conditions as they exist, or accept the
responsibility for changing them.”
We at PSP choose the latter…

PSP Annual Report 2016-17
Another year of working with children, women and people living on margins has gone by,
and it is time to share our journey, our impact, our challenges and our plans going forward
through the PSP Annual Report 2016-17.
Indeed another year has passed, however, and this year had its own set of challenges and
accomplishments. Being in the space we are in, we as a grass-root organization are often
overwhelmed by what we see and experience in terms of the problems and issues of the
people living on margins. Having been working with these members for almost two and a
half decade, we understand their pain and stigma. We also understand that as a non-profit,
we may not be able to provide instant solutions to their problems. But, we can certainly
help them mitigate their pains and assist them towards a better life. We have been doing
this for well over two decades and we are committed to do the same and more till we are
sure that our mission has been accomplished and our vision has been realized. We know
there is still a long way to go, however, a lot has also been achieved, all thanks to the entire
team – at our project sites and offices, our supporters & well-wishers, members of our
Managing & Advisory Boards, and everyone else who might have contributed in their own
myriad ways.
The journey till now has been meaningful and eventful. Starting from very basic
interventions for a handful of children, we are today serving and impacting lives of
thousands of children, women and other community members through a multitude of grass-
root interventions across 4 states of India with new projects being developed in another 3
states. Given the space we are in, the journey has been eventful as well, with a lot of
challenges and struggles, some expected and some not. However, our own steadfast
commitment and the financial gifts and support of all of YOU have enabled us to overcome
the challenges, expand our community outreach and continusouly improve the services and
facilities being offered to the beneficiaries of our different programs.
PSP’s journey and milestones, therefore, are as much yours as it ours. So, a big thank you to
the legions of our supporters – individuals, institutional and corporate, all of who have
stood by us through this meaningful journey.

Governing Board
Param Shakti Peeth is governed by an effective Governing
Body who are committed and dedicated to PSP’s goals &
objectives of providing a better life to the people living on
margins, especially the children & women. These board
members guide the organization and oversee various
aspects of the organizations functioning, diligently
mentoring the teams at the project sites as well as the
backend support team at HO. They meet periodically (and
on need basis) to discuss and deliberate various issues
concerning the organization and ensure that the core
objectives of the organization are met.
Senior Management Team
A `Senior Management Team’ is also in place for the
purpose of planning and execution of different community
programs across different locations. This team with diverse
industry experience and grass-root sensitivities, oversees
the day-to-day operations and more importantly, map the
impact and outcome of the programs to ensure that the
program implementation is aligned to the perceived output
and outcome, and to the overarching goals of the
organization. Wherever deemed necessary, mid-course
correction is undertaken to make sure that planned
program goals are largely met.
Frontline Team
Supporting the `Senior Management Team’ is a legion of
middle and executive level teams all of who come with
different qualifications, skill-sets and experiences but share
the passion for community development.
In all, a combined force of 500+ people (full-time, part-
time, ad-hoc) drive the shared mission of caring for the
VatsalyaGram children, women & other community
members and in doing so, creating a more just society.

As part of a study tour, faculty and students of Social Work of `The Maharaja Sayajirao
University of Baroda’ visited VatsalyaGram-Vrindavan on 18th of Oct., 2016 for practical
exposure of the implementation of different community programs.
After introductions the visitors were taken for a guided tour of the campus, taking them
through every program, from the cradle placed next to the main gate (from where starts the
journey of positive change of every child who comes to VatsalyaGram) to the residential
block of the Vatsalya families, the 2 Schools (where 1000+ children are receiving formal
education), the centre for children w/special needs etc.
The visitors had come sharing a certain sense of curiosity and enthusiasm, and all went back
overwhelmed feeling the same sense of admiration and praise for the activities being
implemented at the project site. Many of the visitors promised to come back again.
The unique model of VatsalyaGram-Vrindavan has been acknowledged throughout the

VatsalyaGram : Introduction
Vrindavan
Our flagship program, conceptualized by our President, that uniquely dovetails 3 different
welfare schemes in a manner that conclusively meets the physical, social & psychological
needs of all the target groups viz., orphan/abandoned children, destitute women and the
aged. The beneficiaries, otherwise coming from different backgrounds, caste and ethnicity,
are brought together and raised as close-knit families (Vatsalya Parivar). The 52-acre
VatsalyaGram campus at Vrindavan offers a full range of critical network of support starting
from Shelter & Sustenance, Education (for children; up to Sr. Secondary level), Healthcare (a
mix of modern medicine and traditional therapy), Literacy & Vocational Training (for girls &
women) and other need-based works aimed at reducing the daily struggle of the program
beneficiaries and nurture them as a resilient community with the overarching goal of their
participation in the nation’s economic process.

VatsalyaGram-Vrindavan
Vaishishtyam, our centre for children with special needs & disabilities is now catering to 102
children, providing individually planned and systematically monitored interventions, in
addition to the lover, care and protection that is synonymous VatsalyaGram. While some of
the children at Vaishishtyam were abandoned by their biological parents and permanently
stay at VatsalyaGram, the others come from low income groups of neighbouring towns.
Suffering from Autism, Dyslexia, ADHD, Down Syndrome, other psychological / learning /
physical disabilities, these children have undergone marked improvements over the period,
thanks to the dedicated and qualified team at Vaishishtyam and the wide array of
equipment and TLM (Teaching Learning Material) available at the centre. As a fundamental
philosophy, the centre will introduce more time-tested mechanisms and best practices to
help these children achieve a higher level of self-sufficiency.

Samvid Gurukulam Sr. Secondary School : Imparting Quality Education to Abandoned / Parentless Children
VatsalyaGram-Vrindavan
The children of VatsalyaGram families are provided with end-to-end services and facilities to
ensure that all their needs, be it physical, social & psychological, are met. Education
(formal) is amongst the foremost services extended to these children as we at PSP
acknowledge that education would empower them to gain greater control of their lives and
live a life of dignity.
With a high emphasis on quality education, Param Shakti Peeth has created Samvid
Gurukulam, a smart-class enabled CBSE-affiliated Sr. Secondary School to deliver high-
impact education to the project children.
Like all households, the Mothers, supported by the Aunts and Grandmothers, prepare the
children of their family for School every day and even help them with their homework and
studies.

Krishna Brahamratan Vidya Mandir : Imparting Formal Education to Community Children
VatsalyaGram-Vrindavan
We at Param Shakti Peeth indisputably believe that education is a gateway out of poverty. It
is with this belief that every community project that we have started in the past or may start
in future would have a School as a given. The children of communities must be provided
formal education and must participate in the economy. Only then would they be able to
break the cycle of poverty for their families, and bridge the yawning rural-urban divide.
Krishna Brahamratan Vidya Mandir – our Primary School at VatsalyaGram-Vrindavan – is
providing access to formal education to the unserved and underserved children of the
communities for over a decade now. To ensure higher enrolment, transportation is provided
to the beneficiaries and the buses also drop the children back to their homes. The
beneficiaries are also provided mid-day meals, uniforms, stationery, and healthcare on need
basis.
The School has over 1000 community children in its ambit which also includes the
marginalized children of the Sapera (snake-charmer) community of one of our other
programs, Vasuki Shreyam.

Mainstreaming Tribal Girls
VatsalyaGram-Omkareshwar Vatsalya Sewa Kendra-Barmer
VatsalyaGram is synonymous with taking selfless care of abandoned / parentless children.
However, the organization’s mandate is much broader and also reaches out to other
vulnerable children.
As such, the organization is serving 373 tribal girls through its VatsalyaGram with 343 girls at
Omkareshwar-M.P. and 30 girls at Vatsalya Sewa Kendra at Barmer-Rajasthan. The
beneficiaries stay at the project site and are being provided with the full set of critical
Vatsalya services viz., Shelter & Basic Necessities; Food; Education (formal); Healthcare; &
Personality Development & Overall Well-being.
While the beneficiaries at VatsalyaGram-Omkareshwar study at the on-campus School
`Samvid Gurukulam Kanya Vidyalaya’, the beneficiaries at Vatsalya Sewa Kendra-Barmer
have been admitted to a neighbouring School `Ganesh Vidhya Mandir’.
In addition to the formal education, these tribal girls are also beneficiaries of personality
development and life-skill trainings that are specially designed to complement their
education and empower them to take control of their lives and contribute to nation-building
by being part of the mainstream society.

Samvid Gurukulam : Providing Access to Education to Poorest-of-the-poor Children
VatsalyaGram-Sijai
The VatsalyaGram at Sijai (also in M.P.) is currently imparting formal education to around
250 children coming from extremely impoverished backgrounds.
Sijai falls under the district of Chhatarpur which is amongst the country’s 250 most
backward districts of India. With a dismal average literacy rate of just over 50%, the `Samvid
Gurukulam School’ at VatsalyaGram-Sijai is reaching out to these children, even from
distances as far as 35kms, to provide them access to formal education.
The School is presently functioning as a Primary School till Class IV from its building on
Ground Floor, however, 2 additional floors are planned to serve more children from
neighbouring rural areas in the future.

Uttarakhand Relief-Rehab-Development Program : Rehabilitating Disaster-affected Children
Vatsalya Sewa Kendra-Rudraprayag
Param Shakti Peeth continues to be with the disaster-affected children of the 2013
Uttarakhand catastrophe, offering all protection, care and services to the 50 children.
While these children stay at the Vatsalya Sewa Kendra, they have been admitted to different
Schools in the adjoining areas,
the fee for which is sponsored
by the organization. While the
organization had procured a
small piece of land with an
intent to develop a residential
School for these children (and
for providing education to other
community children), the
construction of the School could
not commence owing to paucity
of funds.
Like all other resident beneficiaries, the children of the Uttarakhand RRD Program are also
provided with the 5 critical services.

Eye Camps : Community Health
VatsalyaGram-Vrindavan
For over a decade now, Param Shakti Peeth has been organizing free health camps for the
impoverished members of the community. These camps have been in the areas of polio
correction, dental and eye surgery.
Over the last decade, this initiative of ours has touched the lives of almost twenty five
thousand households, with more than ten thousand free eye surgeries (cataract &
glaucoma) and an even higher number were screened and offered free consultancy /
medicines.
3 Eye Camps were organized during FY 2016-17 with almost 800 community members
getting back their sight:
Camp 1 11-14 Aug 2016 112 surgeries
Camp 2 22-25 Dec 2016 350 surgeries
Camp 3 23-26 Feb 2016 315 surgeries
As standard, 4 eye camps are held every year, however, owing to general Govt. guidelines,
only 3 camps were organized furing this FY.
During these camps which last for 3-4 days, the patients as well as their attendants stay at
the VatsalyaGram-Vrindavan campus and receive full meals, completely free of cost.

Vasuki Shreyam : Rehabilitation of Marginalized Children of Sapera Community
VatsalyaGram-Vrindavan
Vasuki Shreyam is the latest community initiative of Param Shakti Peeth to rehabilitate and
mainstream the marginalized children of the Sapera community of the Braj-Mathura region.
For decades the Sapera community (snake-charmers) has been surviving on the practice of
snake-charming, a livelihood being passed from generation to generation. The banning of
the practice of snake-charming under the Wildlife Protection Act brought about a lot of
misery and uncertainty in the lives of the entire Sapera community, who had no other skills
or means of sustenance.
While some schemes for alternative livelihoods had been launched / being implemented,
the children of this community have been living a life of sheer struggle, anxiety and
aimlessness; often seen picking rags or even begging.
With an endeavour to create a better future for these children, who otherwise face a bleak
future, PSP brought approx. 250 children (aged between 6 and 14 years) of the Sapera
community into the ambit of Vatsalya care at VatsalyaGram-Vrindavan.
These children have been provided with dedicated dormitories (separate for girls & boys)
and are now recipients of the love & care and the standard facilities being provided to all
children who are part of VatsalyaGram.

Thanks to the encouragement and support of our well-wishers and donors, we will continue
to build on our progress by not only improving the facilities & services to the existing
beneficiaries but also enhance our outreach to bring more marginalized children & women
into the ambit of our community programs.
Going forward, the management of PSP endeavours to:
Enhance the learning experience of the children by taking forward to completion the
stalled project of the new building of `Samvid Gurukulam School’ at VatsalyaGram-
Vrindavan;
Leverage technology for a more robust delivery of education & learning programs with
the objective of making the children future-ready;
Improve the services delivery at our Centre for children with special needs & disabilities
at VatsalyaGram-Vrindavan (VAISHISHTYAM) to assist the children through more
concerted interventions;
Increase enrolment at `Samvid Gurukulam School’ at VatsalyaGram-Sijai with the
objective of bringing more vulnerable children into the ambit of formal education.
The strategy as well as the program implementation will also be aligned to
