PALMERSTON NORTH FOLK MUSIC CLUB NEWSLETTER
2018 February – June
President's Report
Welcome back to a new year of music! We’ve got some great concerts lined up this year (information on these are at
the end of this newsletter), as well as our usual eclectic collection of theme nights. I look forward to seeing what our
members come up with each week – there’s always a surprise!
In the upcoming programme we also have our AGM. Please do feel welcome to come along and participate – this is
your chance to have a say in the direction the club takes over the next year. If you have any particular matter you
feel should be discussed, please contact a committee member to make sure it is added to the agenda. Please note
that at least one committee member will be standing down this year, so if you are interested in becoming a part of
the committee this is a good time to put your hand up.
The Folk Club Weekend Retreat at Camp Rangi will be happening later in the year, so mark your calendars for
November 16th to 18th.
Subscriptions are now due for the year – single: $20; family: $30. Pay to Nigel on club nights or Direct bank transfer, please ensure your name is in the details: Bank Account No.: 02-0719-0137825-00 Happy music-making, Rosemary

THREE CONCERTS COMING UP THIS YEAR – make a note in your calendars – these are high quality performers
13
th April - Mark & Cindy Lemaire from the USA
Mark Lemaire’s unique guitar style incorporates fingerpicking, slap-and-tap harmonics, hand
percussion, and a delicate touch that goes straight to your heart. While the solo guitar pieces stand
as complete statements, Mark’s harmonies with Cindy Lemaire are so perfectly matched that they
seem like two people with one voice.
Mark’s music is informed by his years as a recording engineer and producer for everyone from
the San Francisco Symphony to Rolling Stones’ producer Jimmy Miller. While Mark and Cindy
tour the US, Sweden, England and Scotland, this is their first visit to New Zealand.
With four albums released and an exemplary stage presence, Mark and Cindy are a pleasure to
listen to and fun to just be with.
“Mark’s pick work is impressive, though it would be an injustice to count his lyricism second-- he borrows from a range of inspiration to create his own sound. The result is an Americana-folk hybrid with hints of classical…. After years touring the U.S. and Europe, Mark and Cindy Lemaire are in sync” -Monterey County Weekly “Complex, sophisticated song arrangements. His guitar playing is so good, it might distract you from his compelling, engaging melodies and sharp songwriting… But only for a second."-Richard Rice, Director, San Francisco Free Folk Festival XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

May - Wilde Taylor, an Auckland based duo Wilde Taylor is an Auckland acoustic duo who perform their own exciting brand of original and
non-original 'Americana' music. This is an amalgamation of Folk, Blues and Country styles from
across the USA.
Wilde Taylor is made up of vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Jesse Wilde, and guitarist Ed
Taylor.
Jesse has been playing professionally for over 20 years throughout NZ and USA. He has spent
lengthy periods in America, 'hanging out' with artists such as Bob Seger, John Mellencamp and
Steve Earle.
Ed has been playing professionally in Auckland and Melbourne for over 20 years.
