Palm Printing EYP

P lay Group students learnt to identify ‘letter H’ through the creative activity and related story. The kids were purveyed with a tray of red colour paint to carry on this task, they did palm printing to enhance their understanding and to make strong learning connections during their critical growing period. The experiences we create for them now must be real and relevant for active connections to form on their learning journey. This experience encouraged their cognitive development as well as strengthened their hand and fingers coordination which helped to improve and enhance their fine motor skills. The focus was on the process not the finished product and it was thoroughly enjoyed by the teacher and students alike.

NURSERY - CELEBRATION (LEARNING ENGAGEMENTS)

Diwali is a Hindu festival, celebrated as

the festival of lights by lighting lamps

everywhere. On the day of Diwali, people

light up their houses with diyas, candles

and lights. They also make rangoli and

decorate their homes. As the Nursery

learners are inquiring into the unit

‘Celebrations and traditions are

expressions of shared beliefs and values’

to make the connection with their unit,

they made beautiful rangoli to decorate

their houses and class. They explored

various shapes colours and symbols to

create beautiful designs.

EYP K1 – Sports Gala

U nder the transdisciplinary theme ‘How we express ourselves’, K1 kids are inquiring into the unit ’We

play to express our feelings and ideas to come to new understandings’.

On 21st November 2018, K1 homeroom teachers arranged a learning engagement ‘sports gala’ for the

learners to connect to the line of inquiry ‘communication through play’. Many creative games like the

alphabet game, number value game, fun with shapes, stacking the cones and bowling were organized to

enhance students’ social skills. During the learning engagement, learners were wholly engrossed in

playing various games, and they reflected on their experiences to understand which corner they liked the

best and why. It was a significant learning engagement which helped them to skillfully communicate their

choices and learning experiences to their peers and teachers.

EYP LIFE CYCLE OF A CHICKEN - LEARNING CENTRES

As K2 is inquiring into the unit ‘All living things go through a process of change’ the K2 A class did a fun

and interactive activity showing the process of growth through the ‘Life cycle of a Chicken’.

There were 3 Stations created in the class assigned as the Art Station where the kids drew and coloured

the Life Cycle of a Chicken, the Clay Station where the kids used clay to depict the changes in this Life

Cycle and the Sequencing station where the students were given sequencing cards to arrange the stages

of the life cycle. Children advanced from one station to another after finishing the respective activity.

Thus, this rotating setup proffered all students a chance to accomplish the 3 goals. This fun activity

ended with an echoing Cock-A-Doodle-Doo!!!

EYP LIFE CYCLE OF A CHICKEN - LEARNING CENTRES

K2-B learners are inquiring into the unit ‘All living things go through a process of change.’

Here through Venn diagram learners sorted living things living on land, water and living in

both the places. They also drew the same on the art sheet labeling it …’L’ for land, ‘W’ for

water and ‘B’ for both. It was an exciting activity for the learners to work in a group as well

as individually it was an enriching experience that helped the students to differentiate

between the 3 types of Living Things being Terrestrial (Land), Aquatic (Water) and

Amphibian (Both).

PYP My Land –Project Based Learning

F or a deeper understanding of the concept of Human Migration, our current UOI, the students of Grade 3 created a model of ‘My Land’, using waste materials and their knowledge of Space and Shape. Working in groups, they emphasized on the factors that would make their land an ideal place to migrate to. Using their creative writing skills, they made brochures to attract people to their land for tourism. They also wrote paragraphs citing reasons why people should migrate to their land and are ready to make their oral presentations. This activity thus integrated English, Math, social studies and Art. The whole activity has been a fun learning experience for each and every student!

G ive students a platform and they come up with some fantastic ideas. As part of revision on fractions, Grade 4B students created their own fraction-based activities. Some of the activities that the students came up with were challenging and thought provoking. Students even created badges to be given to the winners of the game. Students were proud of sharing their games with their class mates as it gave them choice, voice and ownership of their creation. Playing these games with their friends got students really excited. Collecting badges that said winners, was an added excitement for some students. Ms. Paminder (Head of PYP) coming and playing these games with the students was a real treat for students. MYP/DP Children’s Day Reflection

We want more…CHILDREN’S DAY CELEBRATION

On November 14th, 2018, the students of the famous RBK International Academy had the privilege to

be able to watch the magnificent and astounding performance of our school’s teachers for us on

Children’s Day. From well-choreographed dances to sweet singing of musical compositions, and classic

poems to comedic & interesting plays, this unexpected and purely magical assembly was an experience

that I for one will never forget. All of the participating teachers truly put all their time and energy into

making this Children’s Day a programme that will forever be etched into our minds, and set a standard

for our entire school that would be simply impossible to beat. We students from the Grade 9 like to

endlessly thank the teachers involved for putting in so many tiring hours, even over Diwali vacation,

and utilizing their skills and strengths to leave us stunned in a way we never believed possible. Thank

On the 14th of November - Children's Day - we, the students of RBK, had the opportunity of experiencing a compilation of performances put together by our teachers. Essentially, the programme consisted of plays, musical performances and dances, each amazingly executed by RBK's teaching staff. This gave us students the opportunity to view many things from the point of view of our teachers and an opportunity to reflect on it. The programme was a humorous and

captivating way of the teachers expressing their gratitude and love towards the students.

MYP/DP Children’s Day Reflection

W OW… that’s the word I begin with because that’s how Children’s Day went. Yes, do note that

this wasn’t really supposed to be a very “fun” day but neither was it a “make children work harder day.”

We love to make these celebration days like this worthwhile especially at a school like RBK. The children

here are amazing, the teachers being one of the finest in the region and what else would you expect

right? Well not really, we got more than just the finest students and teachers. We have the finest bond

between us all within us and outside us. Well, that’s at least in my perspective of things around here, I

don’t know what other chaps might think, but I’m sure it’d be good as well… hopefully. Either way, the

day went well. We had the main event where the teacher apparently had a big “surprise” for us ; they

performed their acts and sang songs which yes… were obviously, utterly destroyed but it was worth it as

we got a good laugh out of all of it. It was also the main purpose of the entire event anyway. The teachers

to me seemed to have taken the best advantage they could have in this event and decided to creat a skit

to target the DP-2. Well, why did they pick the DP 2? I knew exactly why. It’s because we have the most

unique and special kind of people that exist within this pequeño Comunidad including “me” of course. We

have the latecomer squad… they usually have their shifts at particular days of the week, then we have the

“I’m dead squad” they are the ones that look as if they never sleep and pull all-nighters because I’m sure

they are “studying” during those hours, and …I really am not in the mood to go over now so I’ll just move

on.

Coming back to the main event. I’d say it was entertaining to watch all the teacher pick on the DP-2 to as

a “improve” your student life example and make their own story of Ramayan. I’ve got to hand it to Mr.

Dipendra for an amazing production I honestly don’t what why he isn’t a Drama teacher, but he’s cool. Mr

Felix and his boy band were the best singers in the country, even though Mr. Duke took a shortcut and lip

-synced all the way which for some odd reason entertaining…hope it continues in the near future. Last

but not least Mr. Rajesh, my opinion says he is the best actor around, but some would say Mr. Dipendra

got skill enough to equalize the competition. Everyone had an amazing time at the event, and I got to see

all the hidden “potential” the teachers had during this fabulous day. Thank you to all the teachers that

put a lot of effort into this great event. Special thanks to the Shuchi Ma’am and the Vice Principal and the

Principal of course for their incredible effort to let the event be possible within our school.

MYP/DP DESIGN - UNIT INITIATED SERVICE ACTIVITY – GRADE 8

On the 14th of November, our juniors did a huge favour for us by teaching us how to test the authenticity of any website. In the journey of our Personal Projects, a lot of research is involved. To achieve a higher grade, a range of resources must be used to collect and collate information for research. Since technology has become so user-friendly now a days, the internet is largely responsible for the information we get outside our classrooms. Therefore, it was a great task for us to evaluate our resources, especially websites. But, now thanks to the students of Grade 8, it is just as easy as TRAAP! TRAAP is an acronym for timeliness, relevance, authenticity, author and purpose. So, if a website passes the ‘TRAAP test’ it qualifies as a reliable source. Our juniors not only provided us with an easy solution to our evaluating problems through a video and a presentation but, also tested our understanding at the end of their presentation through a quiz. We cannot be more grateful to the students of Grade 8 for helping us in our Personal Projects and further enhancing our research skills. KHUSHI PARIKH

MYP/DP THANK YOU SENIORS!

O n 17th November, Grade 8 presented before us ‘The Importance of Evaluation of Information’ in their Unit on Evaluating Sources in Design. This topic was expressed through an informative video followed by an interesting quiz. We learned about TRAAP Test (Timeliness, Relevance, Author, Accuracy, and Purpose) which is a useful guide to evaluating resources. TRAAP is an acronym for the general categories of criteria that can be used to evaluate information one finds. Their presentation helped us to understand and learn more about evaluating sources. We thank our Design teacher Ms Shreya Mudaliar for arranging this presentation. We really learned a lot through this presentation and know how this can help us in the future. Thank you seniors!
