Painted Mountain is an art project about one of the most ancient geological formations on planet Earth, the table mountains, or Tepuis, in southeastern Venezuela, on the border to Brazil.
On visiting the Tepuis in 2009 I felt like returning to a landscape I already knew. My paintings are intended to recapture the intensity of the experience, translate and guide anybody visiting an exhibition of Painted Mountain through the energy fields of the experience.
Painted Mountain is intended as an emotional an eloquent reminder of our relationship to the energies of the ecosystems of the planet, and to express a theme for which I have a lifelong fascination, the flora; the tree ferns, and the fauna; the reptiles and giant insects of the carboniferous era, 354 to 290 million years ago.
My purpose with Painted Mountain is to create a point of reference and presence where none existed before.
