Page 4, Thursday, July 27, 2000 News for Southern Colorado County, Texas The Eagle Lake Headlight OBITUARIE Gordon Donald Causey April 24,1926 - July 8, 2000 'Eddi'01-HUVd Gordon Donald Causey, 74, of Piura, Peru entered into eternal rest July 8, 2000, following several months of illness. He was bom jn Lissie on April 24, 1926 to Charles and Ida Isenhower Causey. He was preceded in death by his parents; his younger sister, Jeanette Johnson; and his oldest daughter, Shireen. He grew up in Lissie and gradu- ated in 1943 from Eagle Lake High School where, as a senior, he was salutatorian, class president and edi- tor-in-chief of the school newspaper, "The High School Eaglet". During his high school days, he was active in sports and lettered in track, basketball and football. As did most young men of that time, he answered the call to duty to his country and enrolled in the U.S. Navy V-12 program at the University of Texas. During this period, he was active in intramural sports and the American Institute of Electrical Engi- neering. After completing his military ser- vice and receiving a BS degree in electrical engineering, he chose a pro- fession in Geophysics that led not only to an exciting life of travel, but also to the delineation of many of the oil and gas deposits in the Gulf of Mexico and various overseas locations. He began his career on a survey boat with Roger Ray Geophysical Co. and progressed to management posi- tions with several subsequent compa- nies. During his career, he worked on five continents surveying many pro- spective oil-producing countries, starting in the Bahamas and ending in Colombia. Early in his career, on Christmas Day 1953 in Piura, Peru, he met the love of his life, Ruby Temple Semi- nario. On August 28, 1954, they were united in marriage in a civil ceremony. The following day, a religious cere- mony was held at the Cathedral in Piura. This union was blessed with four children. Because of the travel required in his various jobs, his family experi- enced many different cultures and his children received international educa- tions. Causey retired in 1997 in Peru and, with Ruby, returned to her home in Piura where they first met and where he died July 8,2000. Funeral services and burial were held July 10. Survivors include his devoted wife, Ruby; son and daughter-in-law, Gordon Temple and Donya Causey, and their children, Crystal and Amanda Knudsen, of New Orleans, Louisiana; daughter and son-in-law, Penelope and Joe Kysiak, and son, Tyler, of Dallas; daughter and son-in- law, Magdalena and Kerry Rickelman and children, Shireen and Luke, of Long Beach, California; brother, Wesley Causey (Cmdr. USN-Retired) and wife, Jan, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; brother-in-law, Ralph John- son and wife, Bobby, and daughter, Joy; nephews, Brian Johnson and Charles Causey; great niece, Molly, Jepson; his uncle, Jim Clipson; and many cousins and friends. To celebrate the life of Gordon, a memorial service will be held at 12 noon August 5, 2000 at the Lissie United Methodist Church. The family requests memorial donations be made to the Lissie United Methodist Church or the char- ity of your choice. Sympathy is extended to the fam- ily in their loss. Eddie Hurd, age 87, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2000. On April 25, 1913, God blessed Bill and Mattie Bankston Hurd with a baby boy whom they named Eddie. He was the seventh of 13 children. Born and reared }ii Colorado County, he confessed' Christ and uniteid at an early age with: the Union Hill baptist Church under the leader- ship of Rev. J.J. Jones. He was a dedi- cated member and servedon the usher; board years ago. '"Eddie was united in holy matri- mony to Laura Glen in September 1933. To this union, two children were born. He was very loving and devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grand- J father and great-grandfather. He emphasized what he wanted for his children and grandchildren. He cherished good-family relations; arid was always there when help was" needed. He will truly be missed by family and friends, but his memory will live forever. He worked in the rice fields all his days until he retired. After retiring, he enjoyed working in his garden, with his animals and riding with Laura and Tyrell.. TyreJl and mama Laura were his life. Eddie was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Carmella King and Joanna Mitchell. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Laura Hurd; daughter and son-in-law, Marvin; and Jearldine Hurd Edwards of Eagle Lake; one son, Roscoe Hurd of Cibelo, Texas; another son he raised, Jimmy Hurd, and wife,Eva, of San Antonio; seven grandchildren, Debra Dancy and husband, Lawrence, of Rosenberg, Gennial Allen and hus- band, John, of'Eagle Lake, Rosalyn Edwards of Eagle Lake, Warren Hurd Sr. and wife, Dana, of Woodlands, Roscoe Uvan Hurd and wife, Myra, of Austin, Jeremy Hurd and wife, Sani- tra, arid Jessica Elizabeth Hurd of Houston; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; five sisters, Ary Jenkins of Eagle Lake, Early Fleming of La Marque, Mary Dixon of Houston, Genevie of San Antonio and Lucille Murrlee Ruth of California; brothers and sisters-in- law, Sammie and Callie Hurd of Eagle Lake, John and Tea Hurd of Texas City and Bill Hurd Jr. of Arizona; an uncle, Namon Hurd of Eagle Lake, and a host of nieces, nephews and April 25,1913 - July 16,2000 other relatives and friends. He raised four great-grandchil- dren, Cassandra Solomon (Joe) of Huntsville, Lynn Stevens (Tyrell), Tyrell Allen and Jason Edwards, all of Eagle Lake. He raised all of his grand- children and great-grandchildren. He gave them all he thought they needed and more. He wanted them all to stay together. He would always say, 'They are my children." Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 22, from Greater Union Baptist Church in Matthews with Rev. Lawrence Robertson, pas- tor, officiating.     Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 22, from Greater Union Baptist Church in Matthews with Rev. Lawrence Robertson, pas- tor, officiating.

    Interment followed at Union Hill Cemetery in Matthews.

    Jacqueline "Jackie" Burton, 37, dren, Desmond and Jonya. passed away Monday, July 24,2000 at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston.

    She was born September 28,1962. "Jackie" gave her life giving life to

    someone so precious to her. We know that she is in heaven with

    God. Our hearts are filled with hurt. We will miss her and her graceful attitude.

    "Jackie" leaves to mourn her pass- ing, her ex-husband, Alan Tisdale of Indianapolis, Indiana; mother, Caro- lyn Burton of Texas; children, Judith, Janie, Jacquita, Jalissa, Jairus, Bri- anna and baby boy; and grandchil-

    Her body will be laid to rest in Chicago, Illinois, at the request of her family and children.

    We love you and will miss you with all our hearts.

    William X. "Dickie" Priesmeyer, 78, passed into spirit July 17,2000 at the home of his son and daughter-in- law.

    He was bom in Garwood on March 28, 1922 to Henry F. and Clara Beck Priesmeyer.

    William was a World War II vet- eran with the U.S. Army Air Corps. In

    1952, he became Postmaster of the Garwood Post Office and much later, a rural letter carrier.

    Until the early 1980s, he was an active member of the Garwood Lions Club and the Garwood Volunteer Fire Department.

    After that time, he traveled exten- sively between Dallas, Garwood,
