We are a few weeks away from the ordination
of our new Coadjutor Bishop, Louis Tylka. The
ordination will take place at the Cathedral on
Thursday, July 23 at 2 pm. However, we
already anticipate that there will be restrictions
on the number of people allowed in the
Cathedral for the ceremony. Nevertheless, the
entire Diocese is invited to take part as the
entire ordination and installation will be
broadcast live. Links will be available through
the diocesan website, www.cdop.org.
The various parish and school organizations
have been working hard to reschedule many
of the events that we have missed because of
the lockdown. Here’s what we know so far:
—The Fish Fry may take place later during
July. It will probably become an outdoor event
planned for a Saturday evening on the parking
lot after our Saturday evening Mass. More to
come.
—The Parish and School Picnic will take place
at noon on Sunday, August 9.
—The Msgr. Rank Mass will probably take place
on the feast of St. Bernard, August 20.
—Septemberfest will take place at Heritage
Square on the evening of Sunday, September
6.
—The Men’s Club Golf Outing will take place
on September 25.
—Our recent graduates will be recognized at a
Mass to be determined, possibly in combination
with the resumption of Donut Sunday.
This weekend we will hear from Jake Kellock
who will begin his work this fall as a FOCUS
missionary. This program engages young adult
students to live their faith more actively on
college and university campuses. More
information about Jake is in this week’s bulletin

For our Liturgical Volunteers
Ministry Scheduler Pro has released a new
version of the program that we use to manage
liturgical volunteers. Readers, servers, ushers,
and extraordinary ministers should check out
the new platform. If you use the mobile app, it
should have updated automatically.
Comet Cash is back! Volunteers are needed to
sell Comet Cash after Masses at
St. Thomas. Your help makes it possible for us to
increase our tuition assistance and support our
PTO.
Servers, get ready! For those families that feel
comfortable, trained servers are encouraged
to sign-up for open positions. Little by little, we
are getting back to normal.
We will soon begin training for new servers from
the previous year’s fourth-grade students!
For those not yet ready to come back to Mass We will continue to have Communion available outside of Mass on
Sunday from 12:00 to 12:30 pm. Come into the narthex, or pull up in the
crescent drive to receive.
We will continue to record Mass and post the recordings on
YouTube. See the parish website stthomaspeoria.org for a link to the
channel.
We will begin recording the Sunday 7 AM Mass in place of the Saturday 5 PM Mass. As we begin to have music at Saturday evening Mass, we may have copyright issues with videos posted on YouTube. The silent Mass on Sunday morning at 7 AM will be easier to upload.
Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love
you above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I
cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least
spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and
unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen. Parish Office Hours 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
We will continue to have limited hours in the
Parish Office. The office will be open Monday-
Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p. m. Staff will also

Cardinal Virtues
Cardinal Virtues can be practiced by anyone, Christian or not. Unlike the theological virtues, the cardinal virtues are not, in
themselves, the gifts of God through grace. Rather, the cardinal virtues are developed by practice to develop a habit.
These are the medallions on the back wall of the Sanctuary.
Evangelical Counsels
Beyond the Ten Commandments and the two Great
Commandments to love God and neighbor, we are en-
couraged to strive for Christian perfection. The Evangeli-
cal Counsels of Poverty, Chastity, and Obedience are
signs of the Kingdom of God. To embrace these Counsels
is to live in the world with our eyes more fixed on the world
that is to come.
The Evangelical Counsels are embraced by all religious who take vows of
Poverty, Chastity, and Obedience. Diocesan clergy make promises of
Chastity and Obedience. While they do not make a promise of Poverty,
they are called to live a life of simplicity.
Other Christians, whether single or married, can accumulate possessions,
be fruitful, and preserve freedom. However, Poverty reminds us to be
detached from our possessions. Chastity reminds us to strive for purity in
our fruitfulness. Obedience reminds us to use our freedom according to
God’s will.
Obedience
Obedience is the Evangelical
Counsel in which we submit our
will to the will of a superior. Like
children who are taught to Honor thy Father
and thy Mother, this fourth Commandment
teaches even adults that we should maintain a
childlike Obedience.
Obedience requires sacrifice. During the
Agony in the Garden, Jesus expressed a desire
to avoid the cross when he prayed that this
cup should pass him by, but not according to
his will, but the will of his Heavenly Father
(Mt 26:39). In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus teaches
us all to seek out and obey the will of the
Father: Thy will be done (Mt 6:10).
Obedience is depicted by the two tables of the
Ten Commandments.
Congratulations! First Eucharist

When you go the poor, you encounter Jesus
We of the St. Vincent de Paul Society have as one of our
primary missions the home visit with clients who are
assigned to us. We meet with them, try to get to know their
situation, and determine how we can help them.
Sometimes that is financial, sometimes it is connecting them
with a social service agency that can do more than we
can, sometimes it is taking them to the Habitat store to get furniture at a
tremendous discount, and sometimes even helping them get their
medications.
Recently my partner and I called on a young woman who has a one-year
-old son, is taking classes at night to become a medical coder, and is
working a part-time job. She needed money to pay part of her rent for
one month because of a paperwork error at the Peoria Housing Authority,
verified by PHA. By meeting with her in her apartment we saw that she
had very little furniture and especially needed a bed and a crib. The very
afternoon that we visited her, one of our St. V de P members posted that
he had a bed and mattress to donate to any client who might need it, so
we jumped on it and within a few days two other Vincentians, one of
whom owns a pickup truck, helped to move the bed to this young
woman’s apartment. Then I brought a crib and mattress from our
daughter’s house in Chicago. So our visit helped her pay a rent bill that
she was not expecting to have to pay and gave her and her son
comfortable beds to sleep in. She was so grateful for our help and
impressed that people who had never met her were willing to lug a
heavy bed and mattress into her apartment.
Hopefully she will get her college certificate soon and will find a full time
job to support herself and her son, and then who knows what other goals
she can achieve. All this is thanks to your generous support of our mission.
The needs never end and neither does the kindness of the people of St.
Thomas Parish. Please continue to donate, to pray for the St. Vincent de
Paul group as they work to meet the needs of our neighbors, and to
consider joining our mission.

Come Join Me on Mission!
My name is Jake Kellock
(STS '12, PND '16), and I will be a campus
missionary with a Catholic collegiate
outreach organization called FOCUS
(Fellowship Of Catholic University
Students). With FOCUS, my mission will be
to share the hope and joy of the gospel
with the students at Ball State Universi-
ty. Trained in Church teaching, prayer,
sacred Scripture, evangelization and
discipleship, my team and I will encounter
students in friendship where they are,
inviting them into a personal relationship
with Jesus Christ and accompanying
them as they pursue lives of virtue and
excellence. Through Bible studies,
outreach events, mission trips and one-on-
one discipleship, we inspire and build up
students in the faith, sending them out to
spread the good news and to live out the
Great Commission: Go, therefore, and
make disciples of all nations (Mt. 28:19).
I would really appreciate the opportunity
to speak to you more about FOCUS, and
how you can be personally involved in
the mission through prayers and financial
support. My number is (309) 335-2796 and

Please Help! It’s time to start thinking about backpacks for school
children in need! The COVID-19 pandemic has left many
parents struggling, so we expect more need than ever
before!
This year, we are putting together backpacks for grades
K-8, and to make things easy and safe for everyone,
we are asking only for monetary donations. This keeps
everyone out of the stores and away from the virus. It
also allows our committee to purchase supplies in bulk,
making your donations go even further.
If you can help, please put your donation in an envelope
marked BACKPACKS and place it in the collection plate
during Mass, or drop it off at the parish office.
If you already have backpacks and/or school supplies
that you would like to donate, we will still gladly ac-
cept them. Please put supplies in the designated boxes
in the narthex. Thank you!
