Happy Fourth of July

We are looking forward to a great time on the Fourth of July at the Ramey Center. Good food and great entertainment from Mattie Ladd and

John Rixse. Due to the heat we will have BBQ and the fixings inside so that everyone will be comfortable. It is our hope that many of you will

come out and enjoy each other’s company while we say thanks for the freedom to celebrate on Independence Day. Living in a country with the

freedoms we have from oppression is something many take for granted but we should always thank God for this freedom and

independence that we enjoy daily.

Westminster Village had a great final month with Kendall Berry as our Resident Services Director. We participated in the Rely for Life as we

raised money to fight cancer. We appreciated the wonderful turn out we had on Saturday, June 6 th. Kendall and the team did a great job of

preparing roast beef sandwiches for sale that day. There was good entertainment from the American Cancer Society stage. The Cars and

Cycles Against Cancer participants did a great job of getting many entries for this year’s show. What a splendid day for our community. On

Tuesday, June 9th we went fishing, even though it was hot our residents who went fishing at Kennett had a grand time. As you can see from the

pictures in this month’s newsletter we all had a fantastic time on the trip to New Orleans. I had no idea I would come back with such

meaningful memories of the World War II Museum. It was very informing and moving at the same time. Being there with Frank Anderson

was an honor. The presentation of the museum was amazing. Our group signed up for the movie, dinner and the show with the “Andrew

Sisters”. What a treat. The movie was very moving, the food was good and the entertainment was just incredible. I also enjoyed Bourbon

Street, Jackson Square and the mall. There was lots to see and too much to eat but I loved the seafood. We took Kendall to the Redbirds on

Wednesday, June 24th and enjoyed a terrific day of fellowship with him. Our cookout on June 26th which was Kendall’s last day was

wonderful as we said a weepy goodbye to a much loved Kendall. We wish Kendall all the best as he goes on to his position with the County as

the Executive Director for the Senior Centers in Mississippi County.

By now most of you have met Susan Hill, our new Resident Services Director. She has already settled into her job as she puts out her first

newsletter for the month of July. Susan is also a go getter and you will be in delight with her love for our community and her enthusiasm for

her new position. Please stop by the office or give her a call with encouragement. She is looking forward to hearing your ideas on new

activities and hopes to have a more hands on approach to getting residents more involved in activities. Come to the Fourth of July celebration

and cheer her on. Susan will be taking the residents to Southland Park on July 14 and to the Great Wall for lunch on July 21st for some great

Chinese food. Water Aerobics got off to a great start in June. Continue to come out and enjoy time at the pool with Peggy and also don’t

forget the exercise class. We will have an ice cream social at the Ramey Center on June 23 at 6 pm. Come cool off and enjoy some ice cream.

Accounting News

Well I hope everyone is staying cool. It is definitely hot out there so I

say grab a cool drink and head on out to the pool.

If you have not been in the office lately, stop by and meet my new

assistant. Her name is Tiffany Ashmore, she is very helpful in helping

me get things completed in a timely manner. We are staying quite

busy in the Accounting office.

Don’t forget we offer direct deposit - come to the office, fill out a

form from the front desk and attach a voided check. We will deduct

your account balance directly from your account at no cost to you on

the 1st or 5th of each month. We will continue to send you a monthly

statement showing your account charges. No more worries about

whether you dropped that rent check off or not, although it is a joy to

see each of you when you visit the office.

Also, don’t forget about the 11/12 Program. Prepay your rent for 11

months and the 12th month is FREE, which is an awesome deal. I send

a flyer each month with your statement which explains the

savings. Just come to the office to see me about this great program.

Feel free to stop by or even just call with any and all Accounting

needs you may have.

Environmental Services News

Summer is here! Which means our air conditioners are running. Our desire is to keep you as

comfortable as we can while trying to conserve electricity. Please keep in mind that our

cooling systems can only be expected to reduce your indoor temperature approximately 20

degrees below the outside temperature. We will make every effort to keep the units clean and

well-functioning as well as keeping the filters changed quarterly.

Our landscape crew is also having a busy season. We are so grateful to Chris Smallwood (Employee of the

Quarter) and his team for enduring the heat of the summer to keep our yards manicured. Should you have any

landscaping concerns, please contact the office.

As always feel free to contact the office or help line to address any maintenance concerns.

VILLAGE CAFÉ NEWS

I would like to thank everyone for coming to the Saturday Socials. There will be more to come. Get

your taste buds ready for the “ice cream and smoothie social”. Last year’s was a huge success.

Let’s beat the heat together. Please remember that my office is open to all of you. Ideas and sug-

gestions on how to make the café successful are welcome.

Administrative News For those of you who have been “keeping up with the Williamson’s”, my

youngest son Zach married, his beautiful sweetheart of seven years, Danielle on Saturday. The wedding was beautifully elegant but what made my heart expand was family and friends, immediate and extended. Danielle is that person whom you welcome into your family with open arms. I have discovered that I don’t want to label her daughter in law and turns out she doesn’t want to put the in-law label on us either. I love her like the daughter I never had.

She is not blood relation to me but she is every bit as important to me. Simply put, I love her. That’s what Westminster Village is to so many of you. Those friends that are not blood relation but every bit as important to you as blood relations. That is what living in the village is about. It’s about making friends and spending time with one another. Remember to mark your calendars for the events you want to participate in with your friends.

Cindy Williamson Administrative Director

The Marketing Department has had a busy month with five new neighbors who have joined our neighbor-hood. All four of these new residents found out about our own little “Mayberry” in Arkansas – Westminster Village of the Mid-South from residents, staff and professionals who shared with them all the great things happening here - • Robert & Judy Flinn moved here on Appletree Circle – they referred by our own Frank Anderson. • John & Donna Calvert found just the right home on Daisy and learned about our community from one of our maintenance team, Justin Britt. • Michael Fisher has been the part time drama and communications professor at ANC for over 10 years and is now working full-time here and made his new home on Southside Drive. He got to know many of our residents over the years performing with the ANC Community Choir and was sent to us by June Cherry. • Larry & Norie Jacobs just moved here at their new home on Palm Circle and were referred to us by Chris-tine Bennett at Faith in Action. • Pattye Elliott moved here at the end of June on Apricot Drive. Pattye came to us after finding out about Westminster Village from her niece, Mary Rixse.

Please welcome these new residents and join us in our new Referral Program – our new neighbors get a special gift of $250 off their first month of rent and you will receive a referral fee for recommending them to us when they move in. Call me today and let me know someone who may be interested in making their home here. Leslie Acred Marketing Director

Resident Services News I am so excited to start this new journey as your Resident Services Director. I love the family- like feel I have found here at Westminster Village. I have been busy cleaning my new office. Feel free to stop by and see it. My next task will be getting the storage room at the Ramey Center organized. I’m going to need a lot of help with that. I want to make the activities at the Village activities that you take part in and look forward to each day, week, month, and year. In order to do that I need your help and lots of it. I want to hear what y’all have in mind. I have the results of a survey that was mailed out a few months ago and it looks like we have the activities that people are interested in already in place. So feel free to stop by the office and visit or give me a call and we can discuss how we can boost participation in those activities and any new ideas you might have. We have a great wood shop, and craft hut here at the Village that have lots of potential, also the library and White Elephant not to mention the Ramey Center. The 4th of July Celebration will be the first event I have planned and I’m going to need some volunteers to help make it a success. Mr. Tom Majors has already helped in the wood shop by cutting some wood for our decorations and door prizes. Thanks so much Mr. Tommy! I’m going to need help painting those starting this week. I will be in the craft hut every afternoon at 2:00. Please stop by, I would love to get to know everyone. Also on Thursday, July 2nd I will be in the gym at the Ramey Center arranging tables and decorating. All help is welcome. The weather has gotten so HOT it’s almost unbearable outside, so remember to drink lots of water and try to stay cool. Before we know it my favorite time of the year will be here. Thank God for FALL!! Thanks for making me feel welcome. My door is always open and you can give me a call at 532-4100.

A Healthier Life with Water Aerobics

Water aerobics is a low-impact activity

which means it puts less stress on the joints.

The body feels like it weighs less in the water

so there is less body weight resistance for

muscles to work against.

This makes it an ideal activity for seniors who have lost

muscle mass and strength and want to do some type of ex-

ercise.

It may be less stressful on the joints but it gives you a

heart-pumping workout. By using large muscle groups likes

the quads and abdominals your heart and lungs work harder

to pump blood and deliver oxygen to all parts of the body.

Water aerobics can also be a calorie burner. A person can

burn approximately 300 calories in an hour depending on

the effort put forth.

A regular routine can improve health issues specific to

seniors.

For instance:

reducing the risk of falls by developing strong large and

core muscles

lowering blood pressure and stroke risk by improving

vascular health

promoting social activity by increasing the mood and

reducing stress and depression.

Once familiar with the different movements in the

workout you can do them on your own.

We add floatable swim boards to assist in several of the

exercises. These help us focus more on the lower body and

help with balance.

I hope you will join me for a cooling workout in the pool

at 1:00 every Monday and Thursday (weather permitting).

Put on your swimsuit and sunscreen, bring a bottle of

water and a friend and join for an hour of fun, sun, and

exercise.
