Message from Principal’s

Desk

“Education is much more than mere learning. It

is a soul searching exercise committed towards

excellence.” Delhi Public School Bopal has

become a centre for excellence in the field of

education and aims at the holistic development

of children. It heralds the arrival of innovative

and holistic education where child centred

learning takes precedence over cumbersome

and monotonous class work. Leveraging on

‘relationships’ that matter in the child’s life,

weave the important interactions within the well

structured school programmes that contribute in

bringing about the quality results and holistic

outcomes in the students.

Numerous studies show that test scores leap,

often by more than 20 per cent, when children

are encouraged to develop good attitudes

towards themselves and their learning. Keeping

this in mind our school offers programmes to

help their students develop key character

strengths such as resilience, persistence,

optimism and courage which actively contribute

to a well rounded personality. Our teachers help students "grow" their inner cores. Key qualities

like Joie de vivre, the ability to love and appreciate life , might sound wishy-washy in the hard

world of exam results, but love and security feed a host of qualities that great learners need.

These include the ability to be open and receptive, to be willing and to feel connected.

Meanwhile, cultivating an attitude of appreciation means being able to enjoy the journey of

learning, wonder at nature, relish a good story, feel good about achievements, and enjoy the

companionship of the classroom. All of which, in turn, feed confidence, excitement and curiosity

back into the learning loop.

It is very true that children are like flowers in a garden with different colours and

fragrances, who add to the beauty of the garden. The teachers are like gardeners who

care and nurture the small seedlings and turn them into well blossomed flowers. They

play a cardinal role in building up the character of the students. They work in close

coordination with the students and provide them education that helps them to develop

into balanced personalities with sound values of love, kindness, devotion and service

before self. This dynamic combination empowers them to be the future leaders of

tomorrow. They also prepare global citizens well equipped with life skills needed to face

the changing challenges of the world around them.

The school also offers an array of principles and values that integrate in the life of every

child, giving them an incredible opportunity for academic, social and emotional growth.

Our mission is to imbue our students with universally prized moral values who can

effortlessly adopt to multicultural ethos and milieu and are competent to perform in a

globalize knowledge economy. We facilitate quality education by sculpting the character

of the students with intellectual powers as well as strength of culture.

My dear parents, Education at Delhi Public School is not a destination but a journey of

exploration which is full of hopes, promises, and endless possibilities because every child

is unique and precious to us. I am confident that it will always be a beacon of light,

dispelling the darkness of ignorance and lighting the path of its students, while radiating

kindness and compassion, as it soars high in its pursuit of academic excellence and

fulfilment of the school motto ‘ Service before Self ’.

“Street Culture "

Raahgiri means many things to many people — a place for Sunday fun for some, fitness for others and a definite buzz in the air as thousands of lower limbs get some serious exercise, minus the vehicle pollution. The stretch of CG Road — from Panchvati to Swastik Crossroads — which is known for its traffic snarls and loud blare of car horns, was transformed into a happening park of sorts as the young and old came together at the crack of dawn to participate in a number of fun activities or simply to socialize.

DPS Bopal hosted Raahgiri, a Times event, celebrating the essence of Street Culture. In sync with the idea, DPS Bopal staged various shows, fun and frolic inter alia, the aerobics, nail art, fortune telling, face painting, cycling and jogging. The stretch of CG Road was transformed into a paradise for the morning joggers and early birds.

The mission to reclaim the streets for citizens and drive urban life on to the green path bought a new life to CG Road. As the young ones enjoyed a ride on their cycles and scooters, tried their hands at various crafts and even engaged in sports activities like skating, badminton etc., the older ones shook a leg to foot-thumping music, socialized with each other and shared some gossip while walking on the street. Overall the event was a great success. Spicmacay Fest

advanced, how to decipher such situations and ways in which they can protect themselves. Gender sensitivity "is about changing behaviour and instilling empathy into the views that we hold about our own and the other gender". In the classroom, girls and boys were separately addressed. The points addressed include: • educating them the difference between good and bad touch, highlighting on the concept of abuse, its causes, approach and ways to fight an abuse. • Through videos, activities and demonstration, they were helped to identify how a good touch feels and how a bad touch feels. • Eventually, they were informed of the steps they ought to take when in trouble, how they could respond to the situation and how there are never rooms for secrets in this.

• Girls were also informed about menstruation and hygiene in brief to help them acquaint themselves about their body and ways to deal with the same effectively. • Boys were especially addressed for 3 major aims: to protect oneself from abuse, to not indulge in abusive behaviour (verbal or tactile, though their bodily changes may demand gratification in this age) and most importantly, to protect others they see are walking towards being abused or are being abused. Students were well focused and participative throughout the sessions. They raised queries and shared experiences pertinent to the topic. They shared a comfort zone while understanding this sensitive issue in the presence of only the facilitator (counselor). Feedback collected from them reported that the session was important; it gave them information of the situations happening around and the right ways of coping with situations, if confronted. They found these sessions informative and useful. Girls found the session strengthening and confident about themselves.
