Thank you again for the entire efforts of our whole school community in managing to support learning for our students. What a term it has proven to be. At Paddington we are determined to continue to work on refining our delivery methods and practices to ensure that what we are presenting is in the best interests of our students and manageable for our families. Parent Feedback Due to time limits, teachers sort feedback from a small cross sample of our school community. The results were, that parents would like an increase in direct instruction via detailed lesson notes and/or video content. There was a mixed response in the amount of work parents would like students to complete each day. The Department of Education has addressed this for us by providing guidelines for timetabling of Key Learning Areas. Parents would like some opportunities for less screen time, all resources in one place and more structure in what activity to upload each day, more family friendly. We believe we have addressed these requests in our new 'Learning From Home' format for Term 2. We are proud of how far we have come and know we still have more to learn. At the end of week 2 next term we will ask for feedback in the form of a survey monkey in order to make further adjustments. Holidays The expectation is that all staff and students will need and are encouraged to take a real break over the holidays. We hope that during this time our students and staff, can recharge and be ready to engage in their learning next term. Teachers will not be accessing emails or Dojo messaging until Tuesday April 27th. What to expect in Term 2 After the Staff Development Day scheduled for Monday 27 April, teaching and learning will continue to be delivered in this online model. The information from the Department of Education is that this is going to extend 'deep' into term 2. As we have experienced during this COVID time, things change often. There are no definite time frames. Ongoing Operations Teachers will continue to send a morning message detailing the activities and suggested timeframe for the day. For many lessons, teachers will share explicit teaching videos or lesson notes to help you understand the steps of each lesson. There is then an opportunity to practice these skills/concepts independently. The timing that is specified is a guide only. Students may require more or less time to complete tasks.

Newsletter Term 1, Week 11 10 April 2020

Principal’s Message Here we are in the last week of term! Videos and resources All videos and resources will be uploaded onto Seesaw. Most teachers have begun creating these lessons and are ready to share next term. SeeSaw allows greater opportunity for students to communicate with their teacher, ask questions and check in. Managing progress feedback to students is something we have been working on as a whole staff. We are currently designing a whole school plan for what this will look like. Dojo shutdown (date to be advised) & SeeSaw As you are aware we are closing down Dojo as a communication point and moving to SeeSaw. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We always knew we would need to find a better platform to work from. Please activate your child's account. Details on how to do this have been sent via email. Parents will be advised on how to setup a parent account in the first week of Term 2. Student Resource Kit - Pick-Up Day (Date and Time to be advised) During the first week of Term 2, we will be sending out an invitation for parents to come into school at a specific time in order to pick up a student resource kit. The kit will not be extensive but rather a few physical items teachers would like students to have on hand at home. Welcome to Mr Debono Next term we welcome Mr James Debono as a new permanent staff member. Mr Debono was appointed by the Department of Education, replacing Ms Sue Lam. Mr Debono will be teaching 1/2G, we look forward to Mr Debono becoming part of the Paddington team. A big thank you to Miss Geragthy for teaching 1/2G for the first term. Miss Geragthy will at Paddo for a few weeks in Term 2 for a handover with Mr Debono. Baby Spam Congratulations to Jono Cusack and Simonne Brownlow who welcomed Charlotte Elise May Cusack on Wednesday 1 April. She is absolutely gorgeous. Mr Callum Wylie will be taking Mr Cusack’s place while he is on paternity leave for the first two weeks of next term.

eLIBRARY PLATFORM We are pleased to announce the launch of an online Library collection via the free app ‘ePlatform’, allowing students access to a vast range of quality literature using devices with iOS, Android and Windows platforms. Students can read anywhere, and anytime, even offline. Download the app from your favourite app store: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/eplatform-by-wheelers/id912668852?ls=1&mt=8 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eplatform.android.googleplay&hl=en https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/store/apps/eplatform/9nblggh3z38k Utilising their NSW DET School student login and password, students can ‘borrow’ books for a period of 2 weeks after which time, they are automatically returned. eBooks are not here to replace hard copy texts, rather allowing an additional tool to support student engagement and access to reading. Furthermore, an eLibrary ensures students continue to have access to regular library sessions whilst supporting their involvement in the 2020 Premier’s Reading Challenge. Students have been provided with a library card detailing their User ID and Password and are encouraged to test their access as soon as practicable to allow us to troubleshoot any problems which may arise. Families can read further at https://eplatform.co/au/school/. Happy reading!!

Student News Mia in 1/2G has been working on a very special request! ‘A good friend Jen Webster put a request out to make face masks for her hospital St Vincent as they're in desperate need and because I learnt to sew during my fashion degree, we jumped at the chance to help out. Daddy donated his cotton shirts and Mia got to learn how the sewing machine worked as well as a key life lesson - to do good things for good people. Jen then got the nurses to FaceTime Mia to thank her which

was so special! And now Mia is very popular on Linked In! Sometimes there’s some silver linings in this god awful times.’ Congratulations Mia we all so proud of you.
