The children were espe-cially well catered for with ajumping castle, three leggedraces, sack races, egg andspoon races and of courseSanta dropping in. TheAdults got to relax under our

Tennis was of course on theagenda with the courts wellused – some to play tennisand others as a bike track. After everyone had a bite toeat the raffles and auctionskicked off and were, as al-ways, highly entertaining aspeople generously dug deep tobuy tickets and auction items.

This was then followed byanother spectacular fireworksshow by Holysmoke Fire-

As the festive season fast ap-proaches and the decorationscome out of storage, EssentialEnergy want those who installdo-it-yourself Christmas dis-plays to think first about somebasic safety checks to preventelectrical incidents.

Acting Regional ManagerNorthern, Jamie Warren saidputting electricity safetymeasures in place prior tohanging decorations could pro-vide peace of mind for a safeholiday season.

“Ensure the home, garageand workshops are fitted withsafety switches such as Resid-ual Current Devices (RCD) orEarth Leakage Circuit Break-ers to reduce the likelihood ofelectric shock,” Jamie said.

When installing lights or il-luminated decorations, checkfor damaged or frayed cords

prior to use and always followthe installation instructions.Turn off power points or lightswitches before replacing lightbulbs and minimise the use ofextension leads when organis-ing the display.

“Be aware of the location ofservice lines and electricalwiring within the work spacewhen installing Christmaslights or displays on rooftops.Do not cut, drill or hammerinto rooftops, walls, floors orceilings before thoroughlychecking for electrical wires,”Jamie said.

“Take the opportunity wheninstalling a Christmas lightdisplay to educate children ofthe importance of electricalsafety and the danger of dam-aging electrical equipment.Show family members the lo-cation of the main switchboard

in the case of an emergencywhere the power may need tobe disconnected.”

“Fit spare outlets on powerboards with safety plugs toprevent children placing ob-jects in the sockets; and don’toverload power points withmore than one adapter. Ulti-mately, the safety of you andyour loved ones will ensureyou can enjoy the holiday sea-son with them,” Jamie said.

In the event of a suspectedelectrical shock, do not at-tempt to touch the person untilthe power has been discon-nected. Provide first aid whenit is safe to do so and alwaysseek medical attention after-wards.

For more information onelectrical safety, visit essen-tialenergy.com.au/safety.

Council News

COUNCIL MEETINGThe next Ordinary Council Meeting will be held on Wednesday 28 November

2018 at the Tingha Sports & Recreation Club, New Valley Rd, Tingha from 1pm. Public welcome to attend.

Mayor’s MessageA number of strategies to enhance and progress Armidale have been taking shape in recent times.

The Armidale CBD Revitalisation plan, Dumarsq Creeklands Master Plan, Car Parking and Mobility Study, Community Services Public Art Policy and Armidale City Activation Plan are among the studies and plans being undertaken to build upon the city’s strengths and take it into the next 20 years and beyond. What has become abundantly clear as each strategy has progressed is how interwoven and interdependent these plans are upon one another. To gain the most from these investigations and their outcomes, a more formal connection is needed – to ensure they inform one another and build upon their initiatives.

For this reason, Council is looking to implement an overarching city masterplan, designed to bring all these strategies together.

It is also important the overarching masterplan expands the outlook of each plan to consider how the city services and supports the rest of the Armidale region. How do people in the region’s other centres use the city and what changes are needed to better meet their needs?

A review of the existing plans has begun, to identify their synergies, and the city masterplan will gain momentum early in the new year. Development of the masterplan is expected to take about 12 months and will include broad public consultation, designed to encourage

input from all sectors of our community. That includes our young people, residents in the towns and villages, people from non-English speaking backgrounds – so we get a clearer picture of all the community’s needs and aspirations.

Follow-up deliberations and consultation scheduled for the supporting plans will work hand in hand with formulation of the masterplan.

That includes finalising plans for the CBD revitalisation. A community advisory group comprising local business people and other key stakeholders has been busy reviewing the original concept designs, in line with community feedback received at the start of the year.

The group’s time and efforts have been extremely valuable, to help forge some fantastic designs that can be considered and intertwined with the initiatives, objectives and styles of the broader masterplan.

Initial investigations for each of these plans have already produced some excellent feedback and ideas. They can only be improved by revisiting each of them and fine tuning them within the context a broader city vision and with the benefit of far-reaching consultation for the masterplan.

A very windy afternoon greeted theBowlers Saturday November 24th, butthe games went on regardless.

All games were in the Club Open Sin-gles: David Wilcox played AndrewSparke: Andrew was out of the blocksfrom the first bowl and soon showedthat the wind was not the handicapevery bowler feared, but as the gamewore on David found that he also couldhandle the wind ok. Andrew looked asthough he was going to cause an upsetbut David had other ideas and with adetermined push he went on to take vic-tory 31 shots to 24 shots over 35 ends.

Roger Cox played Robert Moore. Thisgame was a close game with the leadchanging regularly. With Robert holdingwhat seemed to be the game Rogerstaged a determined comeback and byend 38 the score was once again even on28 shots this meant that either bowlercould win this game on the next end butit took two ends. Roger ran out the vic-tor 31 shots to 28 shots over 40 ends. Inanother game Cameron Peardon playedIan Jacobs, Cameron shot to an earlylead where he led 9 shots to 4 shots byend 9. Cameron managed to read thewind a little better than Ian at thisstage but Ian gradually worked out theconditions and soon closed the gap andfrom then on it was to and fro both play-ers not giving into the other howeverIan gained the upper hand and went onto the win 31 shots to 25 shots over 34ends. Barry Presnell played WayneReeves in this game Barry proved a lit-tle to consistent for Wayne who couldnot manage the windy conditions, Barrywent on to take a win 31 shots to 15shots over 26 ends. In the last game ofthe weekend Scott Swain played KenJones. This game showed the inabilityof either Bowler to read and manage thewind however it allowed for an interest-ing contest. Scott was ahead by a streetby end 12 leading 19 shots to 4 shots, but in true style Ken fought back andmanaged to close the deficit to only 7shots by end 16. Scott collected his com-posure and went on to a victory 31 shotsto 19 shots over 26 ends.
