Ask The ‘Oldies’Research how inventions have changed life in the home. Speak to older relatives
to find out what life was like before inventions, e.g., the TV, mobile phones,
dishwasher, the internet... What was their childhood like and how has their
life changed?This interview can be recorded, filmed
or written.
What’s in your name?What’s your full name, were you named after
someone, what does your name mean, what names did your parents consider, why did your parents choose this name, what’s your name’s country of
origin?
On a piece of card write your name in a creative way. Design something as special as you!
If possible attach a small photo of you.
Egg CreationsDesign and make an Easter egg, a chocolate one or a decorative eggshell one. Remember
to take photos and glue these into your homework book.
Write a PMI: List the positive, minus and interesting points about your design and the
creation process.
ReadingUsing your home reader, design and create
a character profile bookmark. Make sure you outline the characteristics of the
character you have selected.

have they been created today?
StatisticsFind and record 10 statistical facts about
New Zealand and New Zealanders.
Time lineCreate a detailed and illustrated timeline
of your weekend.
New School DesignDesign a 3-D model of what you think our new Gardens School should look like. You could use
recycled materials or Minecraft. Remember to take photos of your finished creation and glue these
into your book.
PEChoose a type of exercise you would like to
improve on. Practice this each day for a week. Create a chart/table to record how
long you do it for each day and your
improvements.

The PictureDraw a diagram or picture of how your
kitchen will look in 50 years time? Label each new invention.
Design A Board GamePlay as many board games as you can to get some ideas. Decide on the age range of your
players and decide your theme and category, e.g., a game of chance or strategy
Don’t forget to write rules and directions for your game and try and give your game a
catchy title.
Design TaskDesign a futuristic gadget to take the toil
out of everyday tasks in either the kitchen or garden. Draw a detailed and annotated
diagram of your product. Explain fully how it works and who your target audience is.
Toys ResearchResearch the history of a toy of your choice, e.g., the first potato head, skateboard or video game.
Create a fact file to show off all the things you have learnt. Include the name of the toy, when it was created, who invented and how it was invented
and if it lead to other inventions.Remember to include a picture of the toy.
100 Word ChallengeWrite a 100 word story using the writing
prompt found at https://100wc.net/. Make sure you are very precise about word
choices as you have to hit the 100 word target – not a word over or under!

Visit your class blog for more “What if …” scenarios. Write a short paragraph
explaining what you would do.
Make a wishRecord ten gadgets that you wish you had that haven’t been invented, e.g., Pencil Tracker: To track your pencil so you don’t lose it at school.
Illustrate one of your ideas. Make sure you label its key components.
Cyber SafetyDesign a comic strip that teaches younger children about cyber safety. Comic strips need to entertain the reader, be colourful
and be aimed at a target audience.

demonstrate the value of the week.

The InventionYou have to design a new planet for people
to live on. Think about what humans need to live, what are the features, how might it be different to Earth? Draw and label a picture
of it. Write an explanation of your planet. Give it a great name!

CultureLots of food that we eat originally came from
other countries. Find out about some of these dishes and write a description of the
