A Civil trial adversarial there are two opposing parties object of the trial is to determine whether or not the defendant is liable if so, how to compensate the plaintiff. parties must adhere to strict rules of evidence and procedure. Parties present their cases while discrediting the opposing party's case. Evidence is largely presented orally in court. the judge plays a role in ensuring the rules of evidence and procedure are adhered to and directs the jury if there is one. Settling out of court is still an option even once the trial commences.
