Even a light object such as an eggcup, could cause damage in certain cir-cumstances.

Do not use any pots or pans on theceramic hob with bases with pro-

nounced edges or ridges, or which arepoorly enamelled. These could scratch or scour the hobsurface permanently.

There is a seal between the hobframe and worktop and between

the frame and the ceramic plate. Donot use any sharp pointed object, suchas a knife, to clean these seals as theycould become damaged.

Hobs with enclosed hotplates

When switched on the cookingareas become hot. Danger of burn-

ing.

Avoid allowing liquids or foods con-taining salt to spill onto a stainless

steel hob or trim. Should this happenwipe up any spillages containing saltimmediately, to avoid corrosion.

Do not use covers on the enclosedhotplates. Turning on the hotplate

with the cover still in place could dam-age the hotplate. Putting a cover on adamp hotplate could lead to damageof the hotplate. Condensation trappedunder the cover could cause corrosion.

Do not use the hob as a restingplace for any other objects. This

could lead to a danger of the articlecatching fire or melting if there is any re-sidual heat or the hob is switched on in-advertently

Do not use plastic or aluminium foilcontainers. These melt at high tem-

peratures. Additionally they could dam-age the hob as they melt.

General notes

Do not leave the appliance unat-tended when cooking with oils and

fats as these can be a fire hazard ifallowed to overheat.

Do not use the oven to heat up theroom. Due to the high tempera-

tures radiated, objects left near theoven or hob could catch fire.

Always ensure that food is suffi-ciently cooked or reheated. Many

factors will affect the overall cookingtime, including the size and amount offood, its temperature, changes to therecipe and the shape and size of cook-ing container. Some foods may containmicro organisms which are only de-stroyed by thorough cooking at tem-peratures over 70º C for a minimum of10 minutes. Therefore when cooking orreheating foods, e.g. poultry, it is par-ticularly important that food is fullycooked through. If in doubt select alonger cooking or reheating time. It is important that the heat is allowedto spread evenly throughout the foodbeing cooked. This can be achievedby stirring and/or turning the food, andby observing a sufficiently long stand-ing time which should be added to thetime needed for cooking, reheating ordefrosting.

When using kitchen appliancesconnected to sockets near the

oven, ensure that the cable cannotcome into contact with hot cookingzones or get trapped in a hot ovendoor, which could melt the cable insula-tion and be dangerous. Danger of elec-tric shock.

Under no circumstances use asteam cleaner to clean this ap-

pliance. The steam could attack theelectrical components and cause ashort circuit.

Using alcohol in your recipes:Often alcoholic drinks such as

rum, cognac, wine, etc are used whenpreparing dishes and oven-cookingthem.The high temperatures can cause thealcohol to vaporise. Please take note that under adverse cir-cumstances the alcohol can catch lighton the hot heating elements.

In countries which may be subjectto infestation by cockroaches or

other vermin, pay particular attention tokeeping the appliance and its surround-ings in a clean condition at all times.

Any damage which might be causedby cockroaches or other vermin will notbe covered by the appliance guarantee.

Disposal of your old machineBefore discarding an old machineswitch off and disconnect it from

the power supply. This should be doneby a competent person. Cut off and ren-der any plug useless.Cut off the cable directly behind themachine to prevent misuse.

The manufacturer cannot be heldliable for damage caused by non-compliance with these Warning andSafety instructions.

Cooking zones

The cooking zones are clearly markedon the hob. Only the zone that isswitched on heats up. The surround remains relatively cool.

Residual heat indicator

There is a display field with a residualheat indicator for each zone. Once the zone is switched on, the indi-cator light comes on when a certaintemperature is reached.

Do not cover the hob display field by ahot pan. This could cause damage tothe residual heat indicators.

After switching off, the residual heat in-dicator light stays on as long as thecooking zone remains hot.

Do not touch these cooking zonesor place any heat sensitive objectson them. Danger of burning.

Extended area

Only applicable to hobs with vario orextended cooking zones.

The relevant cooking zone control isalso used to switch on the vario / extended area.

Turn the control in a clockwise direc-tion until a resistance is felt. Other-wise the control can be damaged.

Turn the control in a clockwise direc-tion only to the symbol "n".

Then select the setting required.

Turning the zone control back to "0"switches off:– the cooking zone, and– the extended area.

Choice of suitable pansAttention to correct choice and use ofpans– will help you obtain the best cooking

result most economically,– and generally avoid food boiling

over and sticking.

Pan bases

For maximum economy of electricitywhen cooking or frying, only use panswith a flat or very slightly concavebase. When hot the pan will rest evenlyon the hob. Modern saucepans for elec-tric cookers are the most suitable andefficient for use on ceramic cookingzones, or solid hotplates.

Size of pan

The diameter of the saucepan or fryingpan should be very slightly larger thanthat of the hotplate/cooking area.

Pan lids

Cooking with the lid on the pan retainsthe heat.

Notes on the use on hobs

(both ceramic and enclosed hot-plates)

Before switching on, place a saucepancontaining water or food to be cookedon the hotplate or cooking area. Thisprevents unnecessary use of energy orthe hotplates warping or burning them-selves out.

Before starting to cook, make sure thatthe hotplates or cooking areas and thebase of saucepan are clean and dry. This saves extra cleaning later on.

Additional notes for ceramic hobs

Take care before starting to cookthat there is no grit or sand on thesurface of the hob.

This would scratch the surface, espe-cially if a pan was pushed across.

Do not use any pots or pans wherethe base has ridges, a pronouncededge or is poorly enamelled.

These could also cause scratches.

Do not push roasting tins or bakingtrays etc across the ceramic sur-face. Scratches could occur.

Aluminium or stainless steel panswith aluminium bases can leavemarks with a metallic sheen on theceramic surface. Clean these awayat the earliest opportunity, (see Sec-tion on Cleaning and Care).

Never leave boiled-over sugar or sy-rups, plastic items or aluminium foilon the hob. If this does happen, switch the cooking zones off andwhile the hob is still warm scrapethe sugar, plastic and aluminium re-mians from the hob with a shieldedscraper blade, taking care not toburn yourself.

If these residues are allowed to cool be-fore the hob surface has been cleaned, the ceramic surface will be susceptibleto pitting or even cracking.

Additional notes for enclosed hot-plates

Do not lay anything wet or dampacross the hotplates.

If this does however happen, wipe thehotplate clean and switch on briefly todry. This is necessary to avoid corro-sion.

Description of the systemsFan Heat DThis system works by the circulation ofheated air.

A fan situated on the back wall of theoven sucks in the air, heats it over aring element and blows the heated airthrough the carefully spaced openingsin the rear panel of the oven, enablinglower temperatures to be used thanwith the Conventional heating system.

The oven does not usually need to bepre-heated as the heated air reachesthe food straight away.

Exception: Pre-heating may be necess-ary for foods such as puff pastry andyeast mixtures where instant heat is re-quired to make them rise quickly.

Using the fan heating system you canbake and roast on different levels at thesame time.

Rapid heat-up ÄWith Rapid heat-up the grill element, the bottom heat element and the fan allswitch on at the same time so that theoven reaches the required temperatureas quickly as possible. The indicatorlight above the temperature selectorgoes out when the required tempera-ture has been reached. The oven func-tion selector must then be turned to thefunction you wish to use.

Conventional heating AWith the conventional method of heat-ing, radiant heat is directed onto thefood from above and below. It is usefulwhere a fairly long cooking time is re-quired and a deep colour and goodrise are needed.

It is usually necessary to pre-heat theoven for about 20 minutes when usingthis method.

Grill nThe inner part of the upper heating ele-ment acts as the grill. This will glow reda few minutes after switching it on andis then ready for use.

Pre-heat the grill for at least 5 minuteswith the oven door closed, before placing food under the grill.

Fan grill NThe hot air from the grill is distributedover the food by the fan on the rear wallof the oven. This enables a lower tem-perature to be selected than for conven-tional grilling.

Pre-heating the ovenPre-heating is only necessary in a fewcases e.g:

With "Fan heat" D

– Pre-heating may be necessary forfoods such as puff pastry and yeastmixtures where instant heat is required to make them rise quickly.

With "Conventional" A

– It is usually necessary to pre-heatthe oven for about 20 minutes whenusing this method where a fairly longcooking time is required and a deepcolour and good rise are needed.

With "Grill" n

– Pre-heat the grill for at least 5minutes with the oven door closed, before placing food under the grill.

With "Rapid heat-up" Ä

Do not switch on "Rapid heat-up Ä"for pre-heating the oven when bak-ing biscuits and small cakes, par-ticularly when batch baking be-cause the top tray will brown tooquickly.

Turn the function selector to "Rapidheat-up" Ä.

Set the temperature you require. The oven heating comes on.

When the indicator light above thetemperature selector goes out for thefirst time, set the oven function yourequire for continued cooking or bak-ing and place the food in the oven.

You can use "Rapid heat-up Ä" tocook ready made meals (see relevant section).

When pushing the tray, pan andrack back in, always ensure that thesafety notches are at the rear of theoven. (See illustration).

The tray, pan and rack can then onlybe taken out of the oven by raisingthem upwards and then pulling out.

Roasting (grease) filterThe roasting filter must be fitted in frontof the fan when:– using Fan heat D for roasting on the

rack or in an open pot or roasting tin.– using Fan grill N.

The droplets of fat caught up in the cir-culating air are deposited on the roast-ing filter. This helps to keep the ovenand the area behind the interior backpanel cleaner.

Do not use the roasting filter whenbaking. This would increase thetimes needed for baking.

BakingThe following settings are recom-mended for baking:

– Fan Heat D– Conventional A

BakewareFor the best baking results make surethat you chose bakeware in a materialsuitable for the particular heating sys-tem.

– Fan Heat DMost types of heat-resistant tins ordishes are suitable, including thin-walled and bright, non-reflective met-al tins. Place the tin or dish on thebaking tray in the oven.

– Conventional AThe following baking tins give anevenly browned result:Dark metal, aluminium or enamel tinswith a matt finish are preferable.Heat resistant glass dishes can alsobe used.Avoid bright, shiny metal tins. Thesereflect heat which means that theheat does not penetrate to the foodeffectively and will result in unevenor poor browning. In some cases thecakes might not cook properly. Place the tin or dish directly on thenon-tip rack in the oven.

Fan Heat DSeveral levels can be used at the sametime for baking. The recommended po-sitions are:

1 tray = 1st runner from the bottom

2 trays = 1st and 3rd runners from the bottom

3 trays = 1st, 2nd and 5th runners from the bottom.

When baking moist biscuits, cakesor bread, do not bake on more thantwo levels.

If baking on three levels place tinson the oven tray on the 1st runnerposition and on baking trays on theother runner levels.

Remember to remove the roasting(grease) filter from in front of the fanopening. Otherwise the baking timewill be longer and results uneven.

With Fan Heat D lower baking tem-peratures are needed than with theConventional A setting. See the bak-ing charts.

Conventional A

Use dark metal or enamel tins witha matt finish.Bright, shiny metal tins result inuneven or poor browning and insome cases cakes might not cookproperly.

This function is particularly good forrich fruit cakes, pastries and breadswhere a fairly long cooking time is re-quired and a deep colour and goodrise are needed.

It is usually necessary to pre-heat theoven for about 20 minutes when usingthis method.

Place tins on the rack on runner level1 or 2.

General notes

Place rectangular tins in the oven asshown in the illustration.

Bake any deep-frozen items such aspizzas on baking paper on the rack it-self. Do not place them on the bakingtray or in the grill pan/oven tray. This could cause the metal to distort tosuch an extent that it might be im-possible to remove the pan from theoven whilst it is still hot. This distortionwould increase with subsequent use.Deep frozen foods such as oven chipsor potato croquettes can be cooked onthe baking tray or grill pan/oven.

The Baking Chart gives sugges-tions for temperature, runner heightand timing.

For even browning:

– in general select the middle tem-perature.

Increasing the temperature and re-ducing the time can have an ad-verse effect on even browning. Insome cases cakes might not cookproperly.

– Select the runner height accordingto the recipe and the setting chosen.

– Just before the end of baking timetest to see if the cake is done.

Insert a metal or wooden skewer intothe centre. If it comes out clean, without doughor crumbs sticking to it, the cake isready.

RoastingWe recommend the following settingsfor roasting in the oven:

– Fan Heat D – Conventional A

Fan Heat DWhen roasting on the rack or in anopen dish, make sure the roasting(grease) filter is fitted in front of thefan in the back of the oven interiorbefore starting.

We recommend roasting in acovered pot L:

– This ensures that sufficient stock re-mains for making gravy.

– The oven stays cleaner, too.

Roasting pots with a lid, made fromearthenware, cast iron, ovenproof chinaor glass, and roasting foil are suitable.

Make sure that the pot and lid haveheat-resistant handles.

Place the covered pot on the rack intoa cold oven.Exception: Pre-heat the oven to the tem-perature recommended in the recipewhen cooking roast beef or beef fillet.

Open roasting:

Use shelf position 1 for roasting.Exception: With Conventional A useshelf position 2 when roasting poultryweighing up to 1 kg, a cut of meat, orfish.

The "Fan Heat D" system uses an ap-proximately 20°C lower roasting tem-perature than the "Conventional" heat-ing system.

For roasting directly on the rack Kthe temperature needs to be about20°C lower than for roasting in acovered pot L.

When roasting on the rack place therack and anti-splash tray over the grillpan / oven tray and push them intogether.

The roasting time will depend on thetype of meat, the size and thickness ofthe cut.

Calculating roasting time:

The traditional British method is to allow15 to 20 minutes to the lb, according totype of meat, plus approx. 20 minutes, adjusting length of time as roasting pro-ceeds, to obtain the required result.

Alternatively, multiply the height of thejoint by the time per cm for the type ofmeat, as in the chart.

Type of meat time per cmheight of meat

Beef / VenisonPork / Veal / LambRoast beef / Fillet

15-18 mins.12-15 mins.8-10 mins.

Example:Beef roast, 8 cm high8 x 15 mins. per cm = 120 mins. roast-ing time

Tips:Do not select a roasting temperaturewhich is higher than that recom-mended. The meat will become brown, but will not be cooked properly.

Browning only occurs towards the endof the roasting time. Remove the lidabout halfway through the roasting timeif a more intensive browning effect isdesired.

After the roasting process is finished take the roast out of the oven, wrap inaluminium foil and leave to stand forabout 10 minutes. This helps retain juices when the meatis carved.

Roasting in a covered pot L

Season the meat and place in the pot.Add some knobs of butter or margarineor a little oil or cooking fat. Add about1/8 litre of water when roasting a biglean joint of meat (2-3 kg) or roastingpoultry with a high fat content.

Roasting on the rack K

Place a little water in the tray. Add alittle fat or oil to very lean meat or placea few strips of bacon on the top. Do notadd too much liquid to the tray duringcooking as this will hinder the browningprocess. Baste during cooking.

Roasting poultry

For a crisp finish, baste the poultry tenminutes before the end of cooking timewith slightly salted water.

Roasting deep frozen meat

Deep frozen meat should be thoroughly defrosted beforehand.

DefrostingYou can also use the oven for defrost-ing.

To defrost select "Fan heat D" with atemperature setting of up to a maxi-mum of 50 °C.

For defrosting meat and delicate foodsdo not set a temperature. The fan onthe rear wall will then circulate cool air(at room temperature) around the oven.

Please note:

– Where possible remove the packa-ging and put the food to be de-frosted on a baking tray or into adish.

– All meat and poultry should be fullydefrosted before cooking. Do notuse the liquids from defrosting.

– When defrosting poultry put it on therack over the grill pan / oven tray tocatch the defrosted liquid, so thatthe meat is not lying in this liquid.

It is particularly important to ob-serve food hygiene rules when de-frosting poultry. Do not use the liq-uid from the defrosted poultry. Pourit away, and wash the tray, the sinkand your hands.

– Fish does not need to be fully de-frosted before cooking. Defrost sothat the surface is sufficiently soft totake herbs and seasoning.

Do not refreeze food once it hasthawed.

The time needed for defrosting de-pends on the type and weight of thefood, and at what temperature it wasdeep frozen.

Cooking ready made mealsThe "Rapid heat-up Ä" function canbe used on its own for preparing readymade meals such as pizza, pre-pre-pared lasagne, filled baguettes, etc. However, when used on its own it is notsuitable for baking and conventionalcooking.

When preparing ready made mealswith this function only use one level ofthe oven. If you wish to cook on morethan one level at the same time select"Fan heat D" instead.

Bake any deep-frozen items such aspizzas on baking paper on the rackitself. Do not place them on the bak-ing tray or in the grill pan/oven tray. This could cause the metal to distortto such an extent that it might be im-possible to remove the pan from theoven whilst it is still hot. This distor-tion would increase with subsequentuse.Deep frozen foods such as ovenchips or potato croquettes can becooked on the baking tray or grillpan/oven.

Turn the function selector to "Rapidheat-up Ä".

Set the temperature you require. The oven heating comes on.

When the indicator light above thetemperature selector goes out for thefirst time, do not select another ovenfunction.

Place the dish in the pre-heatedoven.

Observe recommended tempera-tures, cooking times and position inthe oven given on manufacturer’spackaging.

You can also programme the oven toend or delay the start of a cooking pro-cess automatically, see "Programmingcooking time automatically".

GrillingPre-heat the grill for at least 5 minutes with the oven door shut.

Grilling with the oven door shutsaves energy and minimizes cooking smells.

The oven has two grill settings:

Grill n

For grilling thin cuts and for browning.

Fan Grill N

For grilling larger items, for example, poultry, rolled meat.

Put the roasting filter in front of thefan grille in the back of the ovenwhen using this setting.

Preparing food for grillingClean, wipe and season.

Add a little oil if necessary. Other fatsquickly become black or cause thefood to smoke. A little butter can beadded to chicken if desired.

Clean flat fish and slices of fish in thenormal way. To enhance the taste adda little salt or squeeze a little lemonjuice over the fish.

Grilling on the rack

Assemble the grill pan, anti-splashtray and rack as shown.

Place the food on the rack.

Turn the oven function selector to therequired grill setting.

Set the temperature:

Food to be grilled temperature

Thin cutssuch as chops, steak max.

Thicker cutssuch as chicken, kebabs 240°C

To grill thicker pieces of food moregradually after an initial high tempera-ture, continue grilling at a lower tem-perature setting to allow the food tocook through to the centre.

Grilling

42

Page 43: Ovens and cookers H 310, H 320 H 316, H 326 - eirvik.is · with this oven: – baking tray – dual purpose grill pan / oven tray – non-tip rack – a roasting filter – a handle

Pre-heat the grill for at least5 minutes with the oven door shut.

Place the grill pan under the grill.

Make sure you insert the grill pan at theappropriate level for the height of thefood to be grilled:

thin cuts = level 4 or 5

thicker cuts = level 3 or 4

Grilling time

Flat pieces of fish and meat usuallyneed about 5-6 minutes a side depend-ing on their texture. Thicker pieces need longer.

With rolled meat allow approx.10 minutes per cm diameter.

Useful grilling hintsIt is best to grill food of a similar thick-ness at the same time so that the grill-ing time for each item does not varytoo greatly.

Most items should be turned half waythrough cooking.

One way of finding out how far througha piece of meat has been cooked is topress down on it with a spoon.

– If there is very little resistance to thepressure of the spoon, it is still redon the inside ("rare").

– If there is some resistance, the insidewill be pink ("medium").

– If there is great resistance, it isthoroughly cooked through ("welldone").

Cleaning and careCeramic hob surfaceTreat the surface of your ceramic hobwith the same care as any other glasssurface.

Never use scouring agents or pads,or strong cleaners such as ovensprays or stain removers, as thesecould harm the surface.

There is a seal between the hobframe and worktop and between theframe and the ceramic plate. Do notuse any sharp pointed object, suchas a knife, to clean these seals asthey could become damaged.

Clean after each use

Any minor spills which have notdried on can be wiped off with adamp cloth or sponge. If washing upliquid or a similar cleaner is used, lightblue staining might occur.

These stains can be removed with aproprietary ceramic hob cleaningagent, although it may take several ap-plications.

For stubborn spillages use a shieldedblade scraper.

Then wipe with a damp cloth orsponge.

Removing marks

Light marks with a metallic sheen(aluminium deposits) on the hob sur-face can be removed once the hob hascooled down by using a suitable pro-prietary cleaner.

Lime deposits (caused for example bywater boiling over, or damp pan bases)can be removed with vinegar or a pro-prietary hob cleaner.

Cleaning and care

45

Page 46: Ovens and cookers H 310, H 320 H 316, H 326 - eirvik.is · with this oven: – baking tray – dual purpose grill pan / oven tray – non-tip rack – a roasting filter – a handle

Removal of sugar, or syrups, plasticor aluminium foil

If such problems occur, switch offthe hob, but do not let it cool down.Scrape the sugar or other residuethoroughly from the hob with ashielded blade scraper taking carenot to burn yourself.

When the hob is cool, clean with a pro-prietary cleaner.

Suitable cleaners

There are proprietary cleaners on themarket for cleaning ceramic hobs.

Follow the manufacturer’s instruc-tions.

Do not apply to the hob when stillhot.

After applying the cleaner let it dryand then rub it off using paper kitchen towels.

Remove every trace of cleaner fromthe hob with a damp cloth. It couldhave an adverse effect on the hobwhen heated up.

Some cleaners incorporate a siliconeingredient which acts as a protectivefilm on the hob. It makes the hob sur-face smoother and prevents water andsoiling adhering to the surface.

However, cooking at high temperaturesreduces the effect and the cleanerneeds to be reapplied for renewed ef-fect.

By always cleaning the ceramic sur-face with one of these special cleanersyou will help to avoid the damagecaused by sugar and syrups and alumi-nium foil deposits.

Cleaning and careEnclosed hotplates

Hotplates

Wipe off any spilt food with a dampcloth after the hotplates have cooledoff. Use a plastic scouring pad ifnecessary for stubborn spills.

Moisture or dirt must not penetratethe hotplate interior.

The hotplates can be scoured, but notthe hotplate surround.

After cleaning switch on the damphotplates for a short time to dry out,to avoid corrosion.

Occasional treatment with a thin film of oil, or proprietary cleaner for solidhotplates is recommended.

Hotplate surround

This can be cleaned with a suitablestainless steel cleaner.

Do not use any cleaning agent witha scouring effect.

Hob trough

Do not use any knives, hardbrushes, scouring agents or padsas these could scratch.

Never use cleaning agents contain-ing abrasive substances such assand, soda, acids or chemical sol-vents as these could damage thesurface material.

Clean the hob with a hot water anddetergent solution, or with a suitablenon-abrasive proprietary cleaner forstainless steel.

Regular cleaning with a small amountof proprietary cleaner for stainless steelwill help protect the surface.

Remove any spills of food or watercontaining salt as soon as possible,as these could cause corrosion.

Where spills have dried on, soak for ashort time to make cleaning easier.

Cleaning and careAppliance front and controlpanelWipe down the appliance front and thecontrol panel with a mild cleaningagent or a solution of hot water with alittle washing up liquid. Wipe dry with asoft cloth.

Do not use abrasive cleaningagents, sponges or brushes, asthese would scratch the surface.

White or coloured fronts

For ovens with a white or coloured fin-ish we recommend after each use wip-ing:– the oven door handle and– the control panelwith a damp cloth and some washingup liquid. This will help deter soilingfrom sticking on and becoming difficultto remove.

Stainless steel fronts

Never use cleaners containingchlorides, sand, soda or scouringagents. These will leave scratchesand damage the surface.

Apply a non-abrasive proprietary stain-less steel cleaner sparingly and evenlyusing a soft cloth following the manu-facturer’s instructions.

Accessories

Do not leave accessories in theoven when not in use.

Roasting filter

Clean in a solution of hot water and alittle washing up liquid or in the dish-washer.

Note: some dishwasher detergentsmay cause the surface of the metal fil-ter to discolour. This discolouration willnot affect the functioning of the filter inany way.

Baking tray, grill pan / oven tray, rackand side supports.

The surfaces of these have beentreated with PerfectClean enamelling. They should be cleaned in the sameway as other surfaces with Perfect-Clean enamelling. See "PerfectClean".

PerfectClean

Before using for the first timeremove any stickers from Perfect-Clean surfaces.

The enamelled surfaces of the oven in-terior, baking tray, grill pan / oven tray, rack and side supports have beentreated with a new type of enamellingcalled "PerfectClean".

This surface has very good anti-stickproperties which is much easier tokeep clean than conventional oven ena-mel.

Food can be taken off it more easilyand soiling from baking and roasting iseasier to remove.

The following notes on cleaning andcare should ensure that the anti-stickand easy clean properties of Perfect-Clean last for many years.

PerfectClean surfaces can be treatedas you would treat glass. If you are un-sure whether a particular cleaning pro-duct is suitable for PerfectClean con-sider whether you could clean awindow pane with the product withoutdamaging it.

Food can be sliced or cut up on thePerfectClean surface in the same wayas on a baking tray with conventionalenamel.

Allow the oven and any accessoriesto cool down before cleaning.Danger of burning!

Normal soiling

Clean as soon as possible after eachuse with a dishcloth, soft sponge (e.g.the Vileda sponge as supplied with theoven) or a soft nylon brush, and a solu-tion of hot water and a little washing upliquid.

Stubborn soiling

Stubborn soiling e.g. from roasting mayneed to be soaked first with a dampsponge to loosen it and if necessary ascraper suitable for glass surfaces canbe used to remove it.

After cleaning rinse thoroughly withclean water. The water must run off thesurface easily. Any residual cleaningagents will hinder this effect.

Using oven sprays on very stubbornsoiling

Some oven cleaners contain strongalkalines and / or abrasive materials. Because the enamel isdesigned to be easily cleaned theuse of these cleaners is not recom-mended.However if you still cannot get thesurface clean, an oven cleaner canbe used. Do not attempt to use on a hot ovenor accessories. Allow the Perfect-Clean surfaces to cool down toroom temperature before applyingoven sprays!

Remove the catalytic back paneland roof panels before using ovensprays. The chemicals used in ovensprays will damage catalytic ena-mel rendering it ineffective.

Apply a spray oven cleaner to thesoiled areas. Leave to take effect for acouple of minutes only!

If necessary use a soft sponge (e.g.the Vileda sponge as supplied with theoven), soft nylon brush or a scrapersuitable for glass surfaces to loosenthe soiling.

Repeat the process if necessary.

After cleaning rinse thoroughly withclean water and then dry thoroughly.

Important

For optimum performance of the Per-fectClean enamel it is important toclean the oven and accessories aftereach use.

The surfaces will become harder toclean and the anti-stick properties willdeteriorate if soiling is not removedafter each use and allowed to build-up.In extreme cases cleaning may evenbecome impossible.

The following cause lasting damageto the surface structure and reducethe anti-stick effect and must not beused on PerfectClean surfaces:

– abrasive cleaning agents – cleaning agents for ceramic hobs– wire wool or metal scourers– pot scourers– oven cleaning pads – sponges and cloths which have previously been used with abrasive cleaning agents.– oven spray must not be used in a hot oven or left on for too long.– items coated with PerfectClean enamelling must not be cleaned in a dishwasher.

Note

Soiling such as spilt juices and cakemixtures are best removed whilst theoven or tray is still warm. Exercise cau-tion, make sure the oven is not hot -danger of burning!

Spilt fruit juices may cause lasting dis-colouration of the surfaces and roast-ing can cause matt areas to appear.Clean these following the instructionsgiven above and do not try and useforce to remove them! This discolour-ation is permanent but will not affectthe efficiency of the enamel.

Cleaning and Care Catalytic enamel surfacesThe removable back panel and roofliner are coated with a dark grey cata-lytic enamel.

During fan operated cooking circulat-ing air in the oven deposits oil and fatsplashes predominantly on the backpanel of the oven. These splashes areburnt off when the temperature of theoven reaches over 200°C during bak-ing or roasting. The higher the tempera-ture the more effective the process.

The oven and accessories should becleaned after each use. Otherwise fur-ther baking and roasting will cause thedeposits to bake on even harder andcleaning may become difficult and inextreme cases impossible.

Cleaning by hand

Allow the oven to cool down beforecleaning. Danger of burning!

Catalytic enamelled panels shouldbe cleaned using a solution of hotwater with a little washing up liquidapplied with a soft nylon brush.

Do not use abrasive cleaningagents, hard brushes, scouringpads or cloths, steel wool, knives orother abrasive materials and do notuse oven spray on catalytic enamelas the chemicals used in ovensprays will damage catalytic ena-mel rendering it ineffective. If using oven sprays on Perfect-Clean oven surfaces the catalyticback panel and roof panel must firstbe removed from the oven.

Catalytic cleaning process

Before cleaning the catalytic panelsusing high temperatures, make surethat all PerfectClean surfaces havebeen cleaned as previously de-scribed. Otherwise, the high tem-peratures can cause deposits tobecome baked on to the Perfect-Clean surfaces and become im-possible to remove.

If, after manual cleaning, the oven isstill heavily soiled, heating it to a hightemperature will help remove furthersoiling caused by oil and greasesplashes from the catalytic surfaces.

Note that deposits of spices, syrupsand similar substances are notremoved by this process. These shouldbe removed while fresh by hand with amild solution of hot water and washingup liquid applied with a soft brush.

To clean at high temperatures:

Turn the oven selector to Fan heat D.

Turn the temperature selector to thehighest setting.

Run the oven for approx. 1 hour. Thelength of time will depend on thelevel of soiling.

It is a good idea to set the finish timefor the process using the timer. Thisway you will not forget to switch theoven off at the end.

Any remaining soiling will gradually dis-appear with each subsequent use ofthe oven at high temperatures.

Should the catalytic enamelling onthe back panel or the roof linerbecome ineffective through im-proper use or heavy soiling, a re-placement can be obtained fromyour Miele dealer or the Miele SpareParts dept.

Correcting minor faultsInstallation, maintenance and re-pairs to the electrical componentsof this appliance should only be car-ried out by a suitably qualified andcompetent person in accordancewith local and national safety regula-tions. Repairs and other work by un-qualified persons could be dan-gerous. The manufacturer cannotbe held responsible for unauth-orised work.

Some minor problems however can bedealt with as follows:

What to do if . . .

. . . the hob cooking zones / hot-plates do not warm up after beingswitched on.

Check whether,

the mains fuse has blown. Contact aqualified electrician or the Miele Ser-vice Department.

. . . the oven does not heat up.

Check whether,

the selector switch is set to the func-tion required, and the temperaturecontrol is set at the correct tempera-ture.

"AUTO" is lit up in the timer displayfield. To switch on the oven independentlyof the timer, "@" should show inthe display. Press the "i" button.

the mains fuse has blown. Contact aqualified electrician or the Miele Ser-vice Department.

. . . the heating works, but not theoven lighting.

The bulb needs changing:

Disconnect the appliance from theelectricity supply: Switch off at the isolator or the mainsfuse box.

Unscrew the light cover and the seal.

Change the bulb:230-240°V, 25 W, E 14, heat resistant to 300°C.

Screw the light cover and the sealback on again.

Reassemble in the reverse order, care-fully ensuring all parts are correctly inplace.

. . . a noise can be heard after bak-ing, roasting or grilling.

This is not a fault. The cooling fan continues to run for ashort time after the oven has beenswitched off to prevent any humiditybuilding up in the oven, on the controlpanel or in the oven housing unit. Whenthe temperature has fallen sufficientlythe fan switches off automatically. The temperature will fall faster when theoven door is opened partially or fully.

. . . cakes and biscuits are notcooked after following the timesgiven in the chart.

Check whether,

the correct temperature was set.

there has been a change to therecipe. The addition of more liquid ormore eggs makes a moister mixwhich would need longer to cook.

The roasting filter had been left inplace in front of the fan when cook-ing with "Fan Heat D": In this casebaking times might be lengthenedby 10 to 15 minutes.

. . . cakes or biscuits are unevenlybrowned.

There will always be a slight uneven-ness. Product information sheets give apercentage result for standard brown-ing tests. These refer to results for onetray.

If the item being baked is browningvery unevenly, check:

– when baking with "Fan Heat D":

whether the temperature was set toohigh,

whether the roasting filter was inplace.

whether the correct runner heightwas used.

– when baking with "Conven-tional A" heating:

the colour and composition of thebaking tins being used. Light col-oured, shiny, or thin walled tins areless suitable.

whether the correct runner heightwas used.

. . . spots like rust appear on cata-lytic surfaces.

When roasting on the rack, the circulat-ing air sometimes picks up spices, which are then deposited on the oveninterior walls. Such residues are notremoved by catalytic cleaning, they arebest removed while fresh with a mildwashing up liquid solution and a softbrush.

. . . there has been a power failure, and instead of the time of day "000"and "AUTO" flash in the display.

All pre-set times are deleted as a resultof the power failure.

Enter the time of day again, and anyother pre-set data.

. . . "000" appears when the audibletone is switched off.

This is not a fault. The time of day will shortly reappear inthe display field.

. . . "AUTO" flashes in the timer dis-play.

This might signal a data entry mistake,

– for example entering conflictingtimes.

– if the time of day is changed while astart and finish time have been pre-set.

– when the audible tone is switched offby pressing the "g" and ")" but-tons.

. . . condensate has worked its wayin between the glass panes of theoven door.

The oven door has seals on all sides toprotect it.

If, however, condensate has worked itsway in between the glass panes, thedoor can be dismantled in order toclean in between the panes.

Do not use scouring agents, hardsponges or brushes to clean theglass panes. These could damagethe surface.

Do not use an oven spray. Thiswould damage the surface of thealuminium surrounds.

Ensure that the glass panes are in-serted the correct way round aftercleaning as each side of the panehas a different coating. The sidesfacing into the oven interior have aheat reflective coating.

To avoid the risk of breakage, it isadvisable to place the door on atable protected by a soft cloth (e.ga tea towel) with the handle towardsthe edge of table so that the pane issupported evenly.

Once removed handle the panes ex-tremely carefully to avoid the risk ofbreakage.

Always remove the oven door beforedismantling it.

Depending on model the oven door isfitted wth two or three glass panes.

Loosen the screws with a Torx screw-driver then remove the guides andthe trim with the seal.

Gently lift the inner pane up andremove. See illustration.

On oven doors with three panes themiddle pane can also be taken out.

Pull the pane forwards to remove.

Take care when doing this to preventloosening the sealing strips which arefixed to the top end of the pane on theright and left near the guides. Thesesealing strips prevent the pane slippingwhen it is in its frame.

Clean the glass pane and otherparts and then put the oven doorback together again.

Push the middle pane (where pres-ent) into the frame almost to the end.The material (M-) number printed onthe pane must be legible in the bot-tom right hand corner (see illustra-tion). Fit the sealing strip into posi-tion, then push the pane in as far asit will go.
