contestar preguntas.
Read or listen to a book with a family member
Make predictions about what is going to happen next in the story,
by stopping occasionally while reading.
Questions to discuss with your child:
What do you think is going to happen? Look at the pictures.
Why do you think that is going to happen?
What makes you think that?
Explain: Predicting is guessing what is going to happen next or to
think about what is going to happen next based on the text or the
pictures. Making predictions will help us understand the story better
to answer questions.

(15 Minutes)
Math: Patterns
● Practice counting from number 1 to 70 with your child.
● Making patterns: Place a collection of objects on the table
(such as small toys, silverware, sticks, pictures of insects, etc.)
Invite your child to explore the items. Show your child how to
make a pattern using two colors. For instance, one blue Lego,
one red Lego, one blue and one red.
● Explain how to make a different pattern. For instance, two red
legos and one blue. Another example would be one small
toy, two big ones. Talk about the different ways to make
patterns.
● Let your child make a pattern and explain his/her work. Invite
your child to talk about the size, length, weight, area, or
volume of objects.
Literacy: Sounds. Letter Rr:
Sing the alphabet song with your child. You can choose one from
Youtube.
For this activity you will need letter cards.
● Explain to your child that together you will play a game that
involves the sounds of letters. Place about 5 letter cards on
the table. Make sure you include letter “R”.
● Explain that you are going to say a sound and he/she will
identify the letter that makes that sound.
● When your child feels more comfortable identifying the
sounds of letters, explain that you are going to say a word
and his/her job will be to identify letter of the word that begins
with it. Proyectos

Insect project: What insects can we find in our community?
● Look for insects in your back yard or your front garden and
have a conversation about the insects you found and the
characteristics they have.
● Make a list of the insects you found. Ask your child to draw the
pictures.
● Add information to the KWL chart you made the first week we
learned about insects.

Arte: Mariquitas

Arts: Ladybugs
Materials: Paper plates or white paper circles, paint, black paper
and one or two dice with numbers. If you don’t have any, you can
make them by taping pieces of paper with numbers to the dice.
Use the numbers your child needs to practice. You can use one or
two dice if necessary.
● Explain to your child that together you will be making a lady
bug and you are also going to practice counting the black
dots you are adding to your lady bug. Review the
characteristics of insects. For example, insects have three
body parts, antennae, six legs and some insects like ladybugs,
have wings.
● Have your child paint the paper plate or the white paper
circle using red paint. Let the paint dry.
● Then, explain to your child that he/she is going to roll the dice
to see how many dots they will be adding to the ladybug. Ask
your child to identify the number that the dice land on. If your
child is unable to identify the number, use a number line and
have your child count to that number.
● Add the correct amount of dots on the ladybug using black
paint and have your child count the dots he/she is adding.
Let the paint dry.
● Add the head, antennae and legs to the ladybug. Your child
can also draw eyes and the mouth.

figuras tridimensionales tienen tres dimensiones: largo, ancho
y alto.
robot, rosa, rana, reloj, rueda.
Math: Three Dimensional Shapes
Materials: Paper, pencils, scissors, play dough or small marshmallows
and straws or sticks
● Explain to your child that together you will be practicing
shapes. Draw shapes on the paper and allow your child to cut
them out.
● Allow your child to explore the shapes. Talk about the
characteristics of each shape. For example, triangles have
three sides, squares have four equal sides, rectangle is a
special square, it also has four sides, but two sides are longer
than the other two and the circle doesn’t have sides. It is a
continuous curvy line.
● Explain to your child that together you will be creating three-
dimensional shapes. These shapes have three dimensions:
length, wide and high. Help your child make the shapes using
play dough and straws, then, build the three-d shapes.
● Help your child identify the shape and to pronounce the
name of it.
Literacy: Same Sound Sort
Materials: Letter cards and a collection of different small objects
found around the house and put them in a box. Make sure you
have something that begins with the letter R. Such as rabbit, ring,
rainbow, rake, robot.
● Invite your child to join you in a sound-sorting game. Explain
that you have several objects in the box and you need to
group them with names that begin with the same sound.
● Place some letter cards on the table. Make sure you include
the letter R. Add cards as needed.
● Have your child take an object out of the box and put it on
the letter that makes the beginning sound.

Insect project: Why are insects important for our community?
Explain: Insects are important components of our community.
They perform many important functions. Some insects aerate the
soil, pollinate blossoms, and control insect and plant pests. Many
insects, especially beetles, are scavengers, feeding on
dead animals and fallen trees, thereby recycling nutrients back
into the soil. As decomposers, insects help create top soil, the
nutrient-rich layer of soil that helps plants grow. Burrowing bugs,
such as ants and beetles, dig tunnels that provide channels
for water, benefiting plants. Bees, wasps, butterflies, and
ants pollinate flowering plants. Gardeners love the big-eyed bug
and praying mantis because they control the size of certain
insect populations, such as aphids and caterpillars, which feed
on new plant growth. Finally, all insects fertilize the soil with the
nutrients from their droppings (CK-12).
Show the following picture to your child.
What is this? (Please accept responses)
Yes, these are insects. These insects are called aphids.
Explain: Aphids are destructive insect pests on plants. In addition to
weakening the plant by sucking sap. Ladybugs help our plants by
eating the aphids.

Happy Moths
Number Concepts and Operations
● Invite your child to use his/her fingers to count backwards as
you sing or chant the following rhyme:
Ten happy moths flutter through the night
Searching for a shining light.
One moth said, “I must go to bed”
And nine happy moths flew off instead.
● Continue the rhyme counting down until you reach zero.
● You can change “happy” in the rhyme to another emotion.
● Encourage your child to make the facial expression or act out
the emotion as you sing.
● Provide numeral cards for your child to hold up and show as
they count down.
● Vary the tempo each time you recite the rhyme.

Persuadirnos: Nos motiva a hacer algo.

Questions to discuss with your child:
● What is the purpose of the author who wrote the story we are
reading?
● How do we know?
Explain: The author is the person who writes the story. When the
author writes, he has a purpose in mind.
Sometimes, the author writes to:
Persuade: The author motivates us to do something. For instance,
the menus at the restaurants invite us to order certain foods.
Advertising in magazines, motivate us to buy certain products.
Inform: To teach us something new. For instance, if we want to learn
something new, we read non-fiction books about the theme we
want to learn.

letras.
Math: Number walk
First practice counting by 5’s to number 50.
Number Walk.
This activity will increase your child’s awareness of numbers in the
environment and provide practice with numeral recognition.
For this activity, you will to take a walk around the block and in your
house.
Encourage your child to point out and name any numeral
he/she sees while walking around the block and inside your
house.
Talk about the various uses of numerals he/she notices, for
example the numbers on the clock to tell time, the numbers of
your house tell the address, the plate numbers on cars, the
numbers on the microwave or oven, the numbers on a game
box, to tell how many players can play that game and so on.
Help your child to identify patterns that might exist. For
example, all the numbers around your block begin with the
same numbers. For example, 68__. Also, talk about how the
house numbers have an order. Encourage your child to share
and discuss his/her observations.
Literacy: Letter Game
Materials: For this activity, you will need an empty egg carton, a
coin or a small object, pieces of paper and tape to put the letters
on the egg carton, white typing paper, pencils or crayons.
Write on pieces of paper the letters your child needs to
practice and tape them in the egg carton. You can start with
the letters on your child’s name. Divide a taping paper in four
parts. Make sure you include letter R.
Put the small object or a coin inside the egg carton and close
it. Have your child shake the carton and identify the letter the
coin fell in.
Then ask your child to draw a picture of something that begins
with that letter. For example, if the coin falls on the letter M,
your child can draw a picture of a monkey. If your child does
not know how to draw a monkey or any other object, use a
piece of paper yourself and model how you would draw it.
Please do not draw the picture for your child. Please let your
children try to do his/her own work. Also, write the name of the
object and have your child copy it. If your child is ready to try
writing the word, help him/her write it by separating the words
into sounds. When they have finished with the four pictures,
encourage your child to write their name on the back on the
paper.
You can continue playing the game another day just
changing the letters.

Note las diferentes

Si no, déjelo/a
Insect project:
Show your child the following diagrams and point out the different
parts of the insect’s body. Ask your child to describe what they
notice about each part of their body. If your child needs
encouragement, guide them with questions such as:
● How many legs does this insect have?
● Which part of the insect’s body is the biggest? Which part is the
smallest?
● Where are an insect’s antennae? On top of their head or behind
them?
● How do the parts of the insect’s body help them to move?
Create & Draw: Invite your child to draw an insect (any one that
they like) on a piece of paper. Let them draw freely, but guide them
by reminding them to include the parts of an insect you learned
about above - head, thorax, abdomen, antennae, and wings (if
applicable). You can model on a separate piece of paper, if they
need encouragement! Then, encourage them to be scientists by
labeling their diagram, so that others can learn about the different
parts of insects, too. Remember that children are exploring writing at
this age, and that correct spelling is not required. If your child knows
his or her letter sounds, encourage him or her to use inventive
spelling. If not, letter strings or even lines and scribbles are
appropriate for this age- as long as your child sees him or herself as
a writer. Ask your child to read the diagram back to you when they
are finished. Use the diagrams provide above as a reference as you

palabra. Por ejemplo, gato y chato. Invite a su hijo a hacer rimas
con todas las palabras que puedan. Pueden comenzar con las
palabras relacionadas con los insectos:
● Mariposa (posa, rosa, losa, choza)
● Cabeza (fuerza, mesa, pieza, fresa)
● Ala (mala, gala, jala, sala)

marks. At the end, ask your child:
● How many votes did each insect receive?
● Which insect was the most popular, or received the most votes?
● Which insect was the least popular, or received the fewest votes?
Literacy:
Rhyme Time! Playing simple word games with your child is a great
way to teach them to recognize different sounds in words. Review
with your child what rhyming words are: words that sound the same
at the end (for example, bat and cat). Invite your child to brainstorm
as many words as he/she can that begin with the following words
related to insects:
● bug (rug, tug, lug, shrug, mug, dug)
● head (bed, red, shred, fed)
● wing (sing, ring, string, king)
Make it easier for your child by modeling rhymes and having them
repeat the rhyming words. You can also help them by providing
them with an ending sound and inviting your child to think about
how the word would be different with that sound at the start. For
example, at. You can add h and make the word hat. Proyectos

horas.
Ya que hayan pasado algunas horas, pregunte a su hijo/a;
Science: How do plants that eat insects absorb water?
Materials:
For this activity, you are going to need four glasses with water, food
coloring and four lettuce leaves.
Put some food coloring in each glass. Use different colors in
each glass.
Place the lettuce leaves in each glass and leave them there
for a few hours.
After a few hours pass, ask your child; what happened to the
lettuce leaves?
Explain that a plant like lettuce leaves absorb water to get their
nutrients and this experiment is showing us how plants absorb the
water.

Read or listen to a book with a family member
Try to pick a book with rhyming words. Remember that rhyming
words have a similar ending. For example, cake-snake, house-
mouse. As you read emphasize the rhyming words.
Remember that you can find books in the following web page: www.scholastic.com/bookflix • Username: Learning20 • Password: Clifford

Movement: Moving Like an Insect
For this activity you will need a big dice and pictures of insects. If
you don’t have a big dice, you can make one out of paper like the
model above. Glue the pictures of the insects on the dice.
Ask your child to throw the dice. Then, ask him/her to move
like the insect the dice landed on.
If you want, you can also use a dice with numbers and throw
both dice at the same time to see how many times your child
can perform the insect movement.

Math:
Skip count by 10’s to 100.
Intuitive Numbers: To develop our children’s understanding of
quantities through 5.
Explain your child that his/her job will be to identify small number of
objects (1-5) without counting. You can use the pictures below or
make your own. Cut the squares to make cards.
Show a picture card quickly and hide it. Your child will watch
closely and then say the number of butterflies or beetles were
shown.
Encourage your child to say the number without counting.
You may show the same card again so that your child can
check without counting the objects.
Begin with cards 0 to 3. Then add cards with 4 and 5 objects,
as your child is ready.
Literacy:
For this activity you will need different color chalk and balloons with
water.
Now that the weather is getting nicer, this activity will be perfect to
enjoy this beautiful days.
Go out the back yard or the sidewalk and use the chalk to
write sight words or letters. Please make sure you include

Insect Project: To finish our Insect Study:
With your child’s help make a list of the insects you studied on this
topic. Remember that some bugs like worms and spiders are not
insects. Ask your child to choose his/her favorite insect. Then, fold a
piece of paper in four parts. In one part, write the word insect and
ask your child to draw the picture of the insect they chose and
write the name of the insect. In another part, write the word eats
and ask your child to draw and write what the insect eats. In the
next box write the word lives and ask your child to illustrate and
write where the insect lives. In the last box, write the words I like it
because ask your child to illustrate why he/she likes that insect.
Have your child write his/her name on the paper.
Review the KWL chart that you made the first week of our study of

Fine Motor: Cutting the Grass
For this cutting activity, you will need a large white paper and
green paper to simulate grass.
Without your child seeing it, draw pictures of insects on the
white paper. Cover the insects with the green paper by
cutting strips of paper to make the grass. Tape the paper on
an accessible place for your child. Look at the pictures
below.
Ask your child to cut the “grass”, making sure he/she is
holding the scissors properly.
As your child cuts the grass and discovers the insects you
have drawn, ask him/her to name them.
