Image Interpretation training

This highly interactive programme equips healthcare professionals with the skills to interpret radiological images correctly, improving patient outcomes and reducing risks.

Learners explore many different techniques, such as X-ray, ultrasound and cross-sectional imaging. The use of real patient cases helps learners to enhance their interpreting and reporting skills in authentic scenarios.

This programme is an invaluable resource for radiographers, doctors, nurses and many other healthcare professionals. It is suitable for trainees and qualified staff alike.

Key features at a glanceWide-ranging trainingThis programme follows a structured format and it covers a wide range of imaging techniques encountered in radiography, including X-ray, ultrasound and cross-sectional imaging.

Enhanced patient outcomesUsing this resource, healthcare professionals can improve their interpretation and reporting skills – helping to minimise errors in the clinical setting and improve patient outcomes.

Real-life cases The interactive sessions include images, video clips, animations and questions. With real patient cases, learners can apply their knowledge to everyday scenarios.

Proven resultsOne research study showed that this e-learning tool improved medical students’ chest X-ray interpretation skills by 50 per cent1.1 Tamaklo E. Can e-learning improve medical students’ ability to interpret chest X-rays in comparison with electronic text? Poster, Association for the Study of Medical Education, 2012.

Course overviewThe e-learning sessions are clustered into discrete modules. Additional sessions are added regularly.

Topics covered include:• Adult Skeleton

• Introduction • Appendicular Skeleton • The Axial Skeleton • Self-evaluation

• Plain X-rays of the Adult Chest • Paediatric Skeleton

Radiology training – R-ITI

The Radiology – Integrated Training Initiative (R-ITI) is an award-winning programme that supports the training of radiologists.

The highly engaging learning sessions cover all aspects of radiology, including essential physics and core science, paediatrics, cardiac imaging and interventional radiology.

The content is packed with interactive features, such as animations and video clips, which help to bring the subject matter to life and put theoretical knowledge into a practical context.

The programme is ideal for trainees or fully qualified staff wishing to refresh and update their core knowledge.

Key features at a glanceComprehensive contentR-ITI covers all aspects of radiology training and it offers ideal preparation for FRCR1 and equivalent examinations.

Real-life case studiesUsers build core knowledge through practical exercises, such as analysing a radiograph, and they gain experience in interpreting clinical information. This helps to reduce the risk of subsequent errors in the clinical setting.

Interactive featuresThe programme includes a variety of multimedia features, from X-ray images through to ultrasound video clips. This creates greater spatial awareness and realism than textbook learning.

Quality assurance The content has been developed by practising radiologists and The Royal College of Radiologists in the UK. So, it meets the highest training standards.

Award-winning learning R-ITI has won several prestigious learning and training awards and it is used widely across the UK National Health Service.

Course overviewR-ITI comprises 15 modules, which are divided up into smaller learning sessions. These modules can be purchased individually to suit specific training needs.

The modules are: • Cardiac • Thoracic-Respiratory• Vascular and Interventional• Musculoskeletal and Trauma• Gastro-Intestinal• Breast• Gynaecology-Obstetrics• Genito-Urinary and Adrenal• Paediatrics• Head and Neck• Neuroradiology• Radionuclide Radiology• Physics• Basic Science• Professional Skills

Advanced Radiotherapy training – Radiotherap-e

The past decade has seen major advances in radiotherapy techniques – many of which involve new concepts and skills.

Radiotherap-e helps practitioners to develop the knowledge and skills to implement these advanced techniques. The content includes images, animations and many other interactive features. Furthermore, learners can practise their skills using customised tools that simulate radiotherapy tasks.

The programme is aimed at the trained workforce but it is also invaluable for trainees from all professions within radiation oncology.

Key features at a glanceMulti-professional use Radiotherap-e is relevant to a wide variety of healthcare professionals, including clinical oncologists, physicists, radiographers and dosimetrists.

High-quality contentThe learning sessions have been written by leading specialists in the field. Typically, each session takes around 20 minutes to complete – so learners can fit the training around their busy working lives.

Interactive features The learning content includes images, animations and video clips that help to explain the complex principles involved and provide greater spatial awareness than textbook learning.

Practical applicationsThere are step-by-step descriptions of practical procedures and clinical examples. Comparisons of techniques, equipment and protocols are included.

Customised radiotherapy tools Learners can practise their skills using tools that simulate relevant tasks in radiotherapy, such as contouring, dose calculation and optimisation.

Course overviewThe content is divided into five modules. These modules can be purchased individually to suit specific training needs. Module 1Image-guided Brachytherapy for Cervix Cancer• Fundamentals• Contouring• Dosimetry• Patient careModule 2Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy• Fundamentals• Dosimetry• Tumour sitesModule 3Stereotactic Radiotherapy• Fundamentals• Brain• BodyModule 4Prostate Brachytherapy

e-Learning on Ionising Radiation Regulations – e-IRMER

This comprehensive programme supports the training of healthcare staff under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2000 (Amended 2006), (IR(ME)R).

The learning content provides the theoretical knowledge and understanding required by all healthcare staff who use X-rays for the diagnosis of patients – specifically operators, practitioners and referrers. Therefore, it is suitable for doctors, nurses, radiographers, clinical technologists and other healthcare workers.

The programme is regularly reviewed and updated to reflect best practice.

Key features at a glanceProfessional accreditation e-IRMER has been developed in partnership with, and certified by, the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM). It satisfies regulatory theoretical training requirements for healthcare staff involved in diagnostic X-ray work.

Multi-professional use The programme is aimed at non-radiological staff but it is also useful as a refresher or continuing professional development resource for radiographers and radiologists.

Interactive contentThe learning content includes interactive elements such as self-assessment exercises, which help to embed learning and understanding.

Flexible training Healthcare professionals can complete the training online without having to take time out of the workplace.

Standardised contente-IRMER gives learners access to the same high-quality content regardless of their location – delivering consistent training for all.
