Going to Mass on Vacation By Paul Turner

Good Catholics on vacation always make time for Sunday Mass. The loca-tions for churches and the times of services are generally easy to obtain online (www.masstimes.org). It doesn’t take much advance planning to include worship as part of one’s time away from home. When you enter the church as a visitor, introduce yourself to a greeter or minister. Let someone know where you come from . Most locals are happy to say a word of welcome, but they do not always know who is visiting and who is not. Participate well. Pray sincerely. Sing the hymns. Contribute generous-ly to the collection. Some people contribute sparingly. But the church you are visiting has generously provided you a place to worship. Its members would appreciate a spot in the budget you made to enjoy your vacation. If you know in advance that you cannot attend Mass some Sunday, you should obtain a dispensation from your pastor. If you are in your own church when visitors arrive, help them feel welcome; show them around. Above all, make an effort to worship every Sunday, even when you are away from home. God never takes a vacation from you.

Asistencia a Misa durante las Vacaciones Por Paul Turner

Los buenos católicos siempre tienen tiempo para asistir a la Misa Dominical duran-te sus vacaciones. Las ubicaciones de iglesias y sus horarios son generalmente fáciles de encontrar en línea (www.masstimes.org). No se necesitan grandes planes para incluir la alabanza como parte de nuestro tiempo lejos de casa. How do I prepare for and pray in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament?

Preparation begins at home, dressing and readying one’s self to come to church. Dress appropriately for church: if you tend to be cold, bring a sweater; if you tend to be warm, bring a hand fan. Think about what will help you pray. If you like to pray with scripture, bring a Bible. If you have particular prayers or meditations, bring prayer cards or a prayer book. Enjoy the silence of just “being with” God. When you enter the chapel, genuflect or, if you are unable to genuflect, make a profound bow from the waist. During your prayer time you may kneel or sit as you are comfortable. When the next prayers have arrived and you are ready to leave, genuflect (or bow) in reverence, and depart, grateful for time spent deepening your relationship with Christ.

¿Como puedo prepararme y orar en presencia del Santísimo Sacramento?

Anointing of the Sick Second Friday of the month at the 9:00 a.m. Mass, or by appointment.

First Communion/First Reconciliation for Children Two years of formation are required. Contact the parish office in the fall to register.

Confirmation for Youth (High School) Two years of formation are required. Contact the parish office in the fall to register.

Confirmation for Adults (18 and older) Formation is offered two times a year (fall/spring). Contact the parish office to register.

* Parish registration and active participation for at least three (3)months is expected before beginning sacramental preparation.
