Our Lady of the Assumption School 2141 Walnut Avenue, Carmichael, CA 95608 (916) 489-8958 February 28, 2017 With Hands to Serve and Hearts to Love NOTE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL Staffing Update: Here is an update on our Physical Education and 6 th Grade/Junior High Math positions. Mrs. Dupre and Mr. McKenna have done a fine job filling in until we find a permanent teacher for the job. Since we are already into March and the students are learning well under their instruction, they have both graciously agreed to stay on for the duration of the year, and we are so appreciative of that. We had hired a full time PE teacher who was going to step in in February, but circumstances changed and so Mr. McKenna will be with us till the end of the school year. Both positions are posted on Edjoin, and we will be conducting interviews in March. We are early in the hiring season for teachers, and we want to get off to a quick start to ensure we hire the best possible candidates. Scott Lippi has been our interim Athletic Director since Mr. Callaghan left in December. He has done a fine job, and his work is so much appreciated. Mr. Lippi had a major operation on Friday, and he is recovering well. However, he will be unable to resume his work as Athletic Director until he is cleared. In the interim, Mr. McKenna will be acting as our AD. Please pray for the swift recovery of Mr. Lippi. Registration Fee Clarification: We have had a great response to our online registration. We are pleased to be able to offer a registration process that is convenient for our families. Just to clarify, your registration fee will be billed through FACTS Tuition Management. Once all registrations are processed, FACTS will send each family an invoice by e-mail. Within ten days of receiving the e-mailed invoice, your fees will be collected by FACTS. If you pay annual or semiannual tuition payments by check, FACTS will not automatically collect payment. Instead, please follow the prompts within the FACTS emailed invoice to pay your registration online. Registration fees must be paid within 10 days of receiving the invoice in order to avoid late fees. Science Fair: On Thursday night, Science Fair projects from our fabulous students were on display in the Parish Hall. Our students asked great questions, formed thoughtful hypotheses, and effectively used the scientific method to test their hypotheses. The results were terrific. Listed below are finalists for the 6 th and 7 th grades. All finalists are eligible to participate in the Synopsys Sacramento Regional Science and Engineering Fair held at American River College on March 25. We wish Mary the best of luck. And on Saturday, our Academic Decathlon team will be competing at Jesuit High School. They have worked hard preparing for the competition, and we wish them the best of luck. Please pray for Mary and our Aca Deca team. Ash Wednesday and Lent: Finally, and most importantly, we begin the holy season of Lent tomorrow. This morning, we burned palms from last Lent, and the ashen remains will be distributed at our 8:00am Ash Wednesday Mass tomorrow. Our students will be attending and receive ashes, and you are invited to join us. The ashes mark our mortality and our sinful nature, but serve as a solemn but hopeful reminder that we are ultimately saved through Christ, whose resurrection we celebrate at Easter. And so tomorrow we begin our 40 Day Lenten journey by receiving ashes and offering up our own sacrifices during the season through penance, almsgiving, and fasting. God Bless, Robert Love

Parish Vocations Cross Program

OLA has started a new Parish Vocations Cross program. Studies have shown across the country

that parishes that have a firm commitment to praying for vocations see an increase of those

who are interested in in the priesthood and religious life. Each week, one family takes home the

Vocations Cross, presented to them at Mass, and commits to praying for an increase of

vocations to the priesthood and religious life, especially from within our own diocese. At the

end of the week, the cross is returned to the parish for a new family to take it home. We need

at least 50 families to sign up for this program in order for it to be sustainable. Your help

would be greatly appreciated and would only require a minimal commitment on the week you

are assigned.

If you would like to participate, please complete the form below, and send it to the parish or

school office. For more information, please contact Dean Marshall at seminarian@olaparish,net

or (916) 481-5168 x207.
