“Blessed are the
Merciful, for they
Shall obtain mercy.”
~ Matthew 5:7
Dear Friends, This Second Sunday of Easter is also known as Divine Mercy Sunday. God’s mercy for us is a major theme of Pope Francis. In a homily shortly after his election, Francis said, “I think we too are the people who, on the one hand, want to listen to Jesus, but on the other hand, at times, like to find a stick to beat others with, to condemn others. And Jesus has this message for us: mercy. I thinkand I say with humilitythat this is the Lord’s most powerful message: mercy.” On Divine Mercy Sunday five years ago the Pope reflected upon the Gospel passage we hear today: “In today’s Gospel, the Apostle Thomas personally experiences this mercy of God….Thomas does not believe it when the other Apostles tell him: ‘We have seen the Lord.’…And how does Jesus react? With patience: Jesus does not abandon Thomas in his stubborn unbelief…He does not close the door, He waits. And Thomas acknowledges his own poverty, his little faith. ‘My Lord and my God!’: with this simple yet faithfilled invocation, he responds to Jesus’ patience. He lets himself be enveloped by Divine Mercy; he sees it before his eyes, in the wounds of Christ’s hands and feet and in His open side, and he discovers trust.” Thus Pope Francis calls us to truly believe in and accept God’s mercy for us, and then to extend that mercy to all the people we encounter. This weekend at the 5PM Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes the music is led by Theresa Chen, a parishioner who is also a doctoral student at the Eastman School of Music. Theresa has composed a jazz setting of the Mass, and (with the help of some of her Eastman colleagues) shared it with us. Next Sunday, April 15th, she will present this jazz Mass in a concert format at St. Anne Church at 4PM. Theresa will introduce and discuss the sections of the music. The concert will last about an hour, and will be followed by a light reception in the atrium to celebrate her achievement. Please join us. Happy Easter! Fr. Gary Tyman

we are not sure how we could have put a gathering together
a%er the Funeral. It meant so much to all of us. We are ever
grateful and proud to be part of this parish!”

NOTES from NANCY….
I’m sll hearing people talk about the “March for
Our Lives.” How appropriate that it happened on Palm
Sunday Weekend. I’ve been reflecng on how we just
celebrated Jesus doing his “march for our lives” on Good
Fridaywith all passion and love for us. And yet he con-
nues to ask you and me to connue the “march” or the
journey of passionate lovefor God, for all God’s peo-
pleworking to end violence in all its forms. And we do
that by refusing to be just bystanders. We are to find
ways to break the bread of our lives in important ways
like Jesus did, to build a world of respect and kinship
with all.
It reminds me of the song: “We are marching…
in the Light of God…” And in Pope Francis’ message on
the World Day of Peace 2017, he reminds us: “It is a
challenge to build up society, communies & businesses
by acng as peacemakers. It is to show mercy by
refusing to discard people, harm the environment, or
seek to win at any cost…. Acve nonviolence is a way of
showing that unity is truly more powerful and more
frui6ul than conflict. Everything in the world is
interconnected.” (#5)
Thank God, the Easter season is long enough for us to
connue to “march” for our lives and the lives of the
poor and innocent and ones without power.
And Easter is long enough for us to also discover joy and
share it in big and small ways each day. Thank you for
adding joy to my journey!
God bless us and help us “march”…

Divine Mercy Sunday
Divine Mercy Sunday was instituted by Pope St. John Paul II (also known as John Paul the Great) in April of 2000. Divine Mercy Sunday takes place on
the Sunday immediately following Easter every year.
Leading up to Divine Mercy Sunday the Divine Mercy Novena may be said.
This novena consists of nine days of prayer that begins on Good Friday. There is a specific intention
for each day of the Novena. According to St. Faustina, Christ told her the prayer for the last day
is the most difficult: to pray for the people who are lukewarm and indifferent. Jesus described these
people as follows:
These souls cause Me more suffering than any others; it was from such souls that My soul felt the most revulsion (distaste, disgust) in the Garden of Olives. It was on their account that I said: “My Father, if it is possible, let this
cup pass Me by.” The last hope of salvation for them is to flee to My Mercy.
The Novena intentions for each day are:
1. All humankind, in particular all sinners.
2. The souls of priests and the religious.
3. The souls of the devout and faithful people.
4. For the nonbelievers and those who do not yet know Jesus.
5. For souls of heretics and schismatics.
6. The souls of “the meek and humble” and for little
children.
7. The souls of people who especially glorify Christ’s
mercy.
8. The souls in Purgatory.
9. Souls who have become lukewarm and indifferent.
Join us in Prayer! Please write any intention in our Books of Prayer at either worship site. Let us know who to add or remove from our prayer list below. Call Jennifer at the Cluster office at 4739656. Please Remember in Prayer:
