Our Lady of Humility Parish
Parish Mission Statement Mass Schedule As a branch of the one vine, as the family Weekday Masses: 8:00AM – Monday, Tuesday, of our Lord Jesus, it is our mission to and Thursday follow the way of the Lord, by extending Friday Mass: 8:45AM (During School Year) welcome, embracing in healing love, and 8:00AM (During the Summer) sharing the good news of the Gospel. Sunday Masses: 5:00PM Saturday 7:00AM, 9:00AM, 11:00AM Sunday
There Are Angels God Puts On This Earth
Who care for us and guide us. You can feel their love
and gentleness as they walk through life beside us.
They do great things for us every day, they whisper in our ears,
they even hold us in their hearts when we are filled with all our fears.
They are always there to give a hug, and try to make us smile.
They treat us with respect and love, they treat us like their child.
God blessed me with an Angel, I’m proud to call my own.
She’s been with me throughout my life, been with me as I’ve grown.
She’s guided me the best she can, she’s taught me like no other, and I’m thankful I’m the lucky one who get’s to
call her…Mother!

May 12, 2019 • Fourth Sunday Of Easter 3
This Sunday we celebrate Mother’s Day. It’s a day when we rightly honor our mothers for their love and the many great sacrifices they have made for us. A blessing will be given to mothers at all of the Masses this weekend. Happy Mother’s Day to all Mothers! This weekend at all of the Masses we also have our Annual Catholic Chari"es Mother’s Day Second Collec"on. This is the only collec"on that supports Catholic Chari"es. Your dona"on will help carry out the Gospel mission to love and serve the poor and vulnerable in Cook and Lake Coun"es. Programs range from housing and food, to caring for our children, maternity and adop"on services, a%er school programming, senior support, affordable senior housing, counseling, veterans employment and housing, and family strengthening. Please consider contribu"ng as you are able.
As in the past, our Christ First Teens will be helping with the Lake County Right to Life Rose Sale a%er all of the Masses this weekend. Please consider purchasing a rose for that Special Mother in your life to show your apprecia"on for the countless sacrifices she has made. Congratula"ons to Mrs. Swartzle, our Pre-Kindergarten 3 Year Old Teacher, for being nominated by Empower Illinois for recogni"on as a Wonderful Teacher! Empower Illinois is celebra"ng men and women who have dedicated their lives to educa"ng our future leaders. They asked parents to nominate teachers who have inspired or impacted their children, and one of our parents nominated Mrs. Swartzle. Congratula"ons Mrs. Swartzle! Last week I men"oned the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Renew My Church (RMC) Ini"a"ve. Although I have been keeping you updated on and off since I arrived at OLH, I thought that we should have something like a “Parish Town Hall” where I would give a short presenta"on, and parishioners could ask ques"ons. If there are any ques"ons about my sabba"cal, I would answer those ques"ons as well. The proposed date is Tuesday, June 18th, in the Church at 7PM. All are invited. This Sunday we also celebrate Good Shepherd Sunday; it’s a day when we pray for voca"ons to the priesthood. Please pray and encourage a prayerful young Catholic man to consider the possibility that the Lord Jesus might be calling him to the priesthood. Finally, I want to thank all of those involved in the Hospitality Ministry especially Rosa Reyes-Prosen for helping coordinate, Peggy Reid for overseeing the commi'ee, and the various sub-commi'ee chairs: Linda Krigbaum (Greeters), Deacon Greg Krame (Welcoming), and Peggy Reid (Events). Next week at all of the Masses we will be launching our new “Nametag Sunday” Program as a way to foster a greater sense of community. A number of our OLH School and Religious Educa"on Students made their First Holy Communion this Saturday, May 11th; please also keep them in your prayers.
God Bless,
Fr. Paul

Soup Kitchen Do something helpful this Easter Season. Thursday, May 23rd, is Our Lady of Humility’s commitment to provide volunteers to
help with the Soup Kitchen at Holy Family Services (the old St. Bartholomew Parish) located at: 914 8th Street, Waukegan. It is always the fourth Thursday of every month. Food prepara"on begins at 3PM, dinner is served at 5:30PM, followed by clean-up. We are usually done by 7PM. Any "me that you can give is greatly appreciated. We are in desperate need of more assistance from our Parishioners on a regular basis. We usually have lots of volunteers for the holidays, but your help is needed every month! If you have any ques"ons, please call Pat at (847) 662-4095.

Prayer Shawl
Ministry A%en!on, All Kni%ers And
Crotcheters We would like to start a new ministry here at OLH Parish. It’s a beau"ful ministry making Prayer Shawls, to be given to pa"ents at the Cancer Hospital, by our Ministers of Care. We would also give them to grieving families at our Funerals, etc. There is much more informa"on that I have about this Ministry, but first we wanted to know if we have enough interested parishioners to begin. The Prayer Shawls can be worked on at home, and later if people want to, we can meet twice a month to work on the shawls together, and visit with each other. This is a wonderful Ministry! Members of St. Patrick’s Church in Wadsworth, Mrs. Fran Balistreri and Mrs. Jean Gibbons, were nice enough to share it with me. My understanding is that the shawls and blankets for the cancer pa"ents, and the blankets, hats, and boo"es for the premature infants, touch the pa"ents as well as those who make them. As you pray and think about it, I will be praying for you. Hope to hear from you! My name is Juanita, and my phone number is: (847) 721-5792. God Bless!

RCIA Spotlight My name is Irma Crist. I was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and moved to Waukegan with my family when I was 7 years old. I grew up in a large family with 12 children, 7 boys and 5 girls. My parents moved to the area from Puerto Rico, and s!ll have family members there. At 16 years old, I moved to Elgin, and returned to Waukegan in 1997 with my son, Trinity. I enjoy reading and working on puzzles as well as cooking.
I was bap!zed Catholic at St. Therese in Kenosha, and a$ended Church at Our Lady of Humility with my mother when I was a young girl, but I lost my way somewhere down the line, which is why I decided to join RCIA. I wanted to re-learn the things I had forgo$en, learn more about the Bible, and become one with God. It is very important to me to be Confirmed as I want to have a deeper rela!onship with the Lord. I have learned so much as a Candidate in the RCIA Program, and I want to learn so much more. My life has changed so much for the be$er with God. I worry less, because I just give my worries to Him. I pray and read my Bible more also. RCIA has been such a fulfillment in my life. I learn so much each and every !me we meet. If I do not understand something, they take the !me to explain it so I do understand. Our RCIA Group and Church has been such a blessing – they have become my family.
Donut Sunday Next Sunday, May 19th, is Donut Sunday hosted by our Knights of Columbus. Join your fellow parishioners for some delicious treats, and the even be'er treat of community and fellowship. If May is your birthday month, please come and enjoy a
complimentary drink and donut of your choice with your friends and The Knights. (Pick up a complimentary birthday card from the Grand Knights Table at the beginning of the donut line.) Free Coffee Refills! We hope to see you there!
Blessing For Mother’s Day Loving God,
We thank You for the love of the Mothers You have given us,
Whose love is so precious that it can never be measured,
Whose pa!ence seems to have no end.
May we see Your loving hand behind them and guiding them. We pray for those Mothers who
fear they will run out of love, or !me, or pa!ence.
We ask You to bless them with Your own special love.
We ask this in the name of Jesus, our brother.
Amen.
Happy Mother’s
Day! Fr. Paul, all
of the Deacons, and all of the Parish Staff would like to wish all Mothers, Stepmothers, and Grandmothers a Very Happy Mother’s Day! God bless each of you! Nametag Weekend
On Saturday, May 18th, and Sunday, May 19th, (next weekend) the Hospitality Ministry Team will be hos"ng “Nametag Weekend”. As we all know, many of us see the same people at Church every Sunday, but never get to know their name or anything about them. On this weekend, we will have tables setup at the East entrance and in the back near the West entrance. On the tables there will be small self-adhesive nametags and colored markers. Before heading for your favorite pew, please take a moment to stop by one of the tables and make yourself a nametag. You can put your first and last name, or just your first name if you prefer. If you would like to, you could put a li'le drawing next to your name telling something about you, such as a book if you like to read, or maybe a bowling ball if you like to bowl. This ac"vity is part of the Renew My Church Ini"a"ve, and the purpose is to promote community and foster fellowship. We would really appreciate your par"cipa"on, and welcome any comments or sugges"ons you might have.
8 Welcome to Our Lady of Humility Catholic Church
OLH Teen Ministry: Catholic HEART Workcamp The OLH Teen Ministry is par"cipa"ng in Catholic HEART Workcamp June 16th-21st. Again we are seeking to raise funds for the Service Trip. The Registra"on Fee for each camper is $380. They are raising funds through group fundraisers, individual fundraisers, money from their own jobs, and requests for support from family and friends. Each year we have requested support from parishioners in our Parish Sponsor Appeal, and the response has been wonderful. We are again asking for your support. If you wish to help sponsor our campers, please write your check (for any amount) to: “Our Lady of Humility” (please write HEART Workcamp on the Memo Line so that it will be credited to the right fund); put it in the colored envelopes marked “HEART” at the exits of the Church, and place the envelope in the Collec!on Basket. If you cannot be a Financial Sponsor, we ask that you be a Prayer Sponsor in praying for our teens while they are preparing for HEART Workcamp, and while they are doing God’s work this summer.
Honoring Mary During The Month Of May May is the month of Mary. Behold Mary as your mother, and consider honoring her in a special (perhaps even new) way this May. When you do, she will keep her promise of praying for you, both now, and at the hour of your death. (Sugges"ons will be offered throughout the month.) Create a May Altar at Home: May Altars are a tradi"on that date back hundreds of years, and were prevalent in many homes throughout the world. In simplest terms, a May Altar is a small surface in your home that is dedicated to honoring Our Blessed Mother during the month of May. It is a place for focusing on Marian devo"ons, and joining with Our Lady in prayer. May Altars may consist of nothing more than a meaningfully selected image, an icon or statue of Mary, and a spray of May flowers which are placed in a prominent place. Depending on the ages and interests of your family, you may want to include some other items such as:
ó Blue or White Linens (colors o%en associated with Our Lady) ó Real or Ar"ficial Flowers
ó Holy Cards with Images of Mary ó Candles ó Rosaries
ó Holy Water ó Picture Books and Devo"onals about Mary
ó Words to Hymns or Recordings of Songs about Mary ó Cushions, a Kneeler, a Chair, or a Stool nearby to Encourage Prayer
Of course, the most important thing is that your May Altar gets used. It should be a daily reminder of Mary saying “Y-E-S” to be the Mother of the Savior.
Pray the Rosary: The Rosary is the Marian devo"on par excellence. When people think of Marian devo"on, they usually think of the Rosary. If you do not pray the Rosary regularly, then consider making May the month when you commit to praying it every day. The Rosary is currently being prayed at 7:30AM on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, 8AM on Fridays BEFORE Mass, and AFTER the 7AM Mass on Sundays at OLH. Please join us!
Pray the Regina Caeli: You might hear Church bells ring daily at 6AM, 12PM - Noon, and 6PM. Those bells indicate the tradi"onal "me of praying the Angelus, a prayer which focuses on the incarna"on. From Easter Sunday through Pentecost, the Regina Caeli replaces the Angelus Prayer. The Regina Caeli focuses on Easter joy, and the resurrec"on of Jesus. Try praying it at least once each day, if not all three "mes. If you cannot observe the tradi"onal Church "mes, then consider praying it before breakfast, lunch, and supper.
Regina Caeli Queen of Heaven, rejoice, Alleluia
The Son, whom you merited to bear, Alleluia Has risen, as He said, Alleluia
Pray for us to God, Alleluia V. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, Alleluia
R. For the Lord has truly risen, Alleluia Let us Pray: O God, who through the resurrec!on of Your Son Jesus Christ gave rejoicing to the world grant, we pray, that through
His Mother, the Virgin Mary, we may obtain the joys of everlas!ng life. Through Christ Our Lord.
Amen.

Mary’s 15 Promises For Those Who Pray The Rosary V To all those who pray my Rosary devoutly, I promise my special protec"on and great graces. V Those who shall persevere in the recita"on of my Rosary will receive signal graces. V The Rosary will be a very powerful armor against Hell; it will destroy vice, deliver from sin, and
dispel heresy. V The Rosary will make virtue and good works flourish, and will obtain for souls the most abundant divine mercies. It will draw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its’ vani"es, and will li% them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanc"fy themselves by this means. V Those who trust themselves to me through the Rosary will not perish. V Whoever recites my Rosary devoutly, reflec"ng on the mysteries, shall never be overwhelmed by misfortune. He will not experience the anger of God, nor will he perish by an unprovided death. The sinner will be converted; the just will persevere in
grace and merit eternal life. V Those truly devoted to my Rosary shall not die without the sacraments of the Church. V Those who are faithful to recite my Rosary shall have during their life and at their death, the light of God and the plenitude of His
graces, and will share in the merits of the blessed. V I will deliver promptly from Purgatory souls devoted to my Rosary. V True children of my Rosary will enjoy great glory in Heaven. V What you shall ask through my Rosary you shall obtain. V To those who propagate my Rosary I promise aid in all their necessi"es. V I have obtained from my Son that all the members of the Rosary Confraternity shall have as their intercessors, in life and in death,
the en"re celes"al court. V Those who recite my Rosary faithfully are my beloved children, the brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ. V Devo"on to my Rosary is a special sign of predes"na"on. In addi"on, many miracles are associated with praying the Rosary. You can read about some of them in two popular books: “The Secret of The Rosary” by St. Louis de Mon>ort (ask the Legion of Mary for a free copy) and “Champions of The Rosary: The History and Heroes of a Spiritual Weapon” by Fr. Donald Calloway. (Note: A par!al indulgence under the usual condi!ons can be earned for praying both the Angelus and the Regina Caeli. A par!al indulgence is the remission of temporal punishment due for sins which have already been forgiven as far as their guilt is concerned.) h'ps://www.catholic.org/prayers/indulgc.php; h'ps://www.catholicculture.org/culture/library/view.cfm?recnum=6623
