WEEK OF FEBRUARY 1 / REFLEXIÓN DE LA CORRESPONSABILIDAD PARA LA SEMANA DEL 1 DE FEBREROIn the midst of miracles and cures and deep understanding of people, Jesus may sometimes seem distant from us. The readings on this Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time, however, emphasize His humanity; He was one of the people, someone who each of us could relate to not as a God, but a man. However, it can be a bit over-whelming for us to accept Jesus in the way He wants us to.

That does not mean we do not acknowledge His divinity, but we also must view Him as a companion on our own life’s journey. In a sense, this is what stewardship calls us to — walking with the Lord and leaning on Him when we must, and certainly finding strength in His presence. But to have Him present in our lives requires us to make an effort to make that happen.

In the first reading from Deuteronomy, Moses declares, “A prophet like me will the Lord, your God, raise up for you from among your own kin; to him you shall listen.” Throughout Advent and the Christmas season we prepared for the arrival of Jesus. Now as we approach Lent and Easter it is time for us to listen to Him. The late Archbishop Fulton Sheen said, “One of the best ways to get happi-ness and pleasure out of life is to ask ourselves, ‘How can I please God’?” Read more at www.thecatholicsteward.com.

En medio de milagros y curaciones y un profundo conocimiento de la gente, Jesús aveces puede parecer distante de nosotros. Dear Parishioners and Friends of Our Lady of Fatima,/ Queridos parroquianos y amigos de Nuestra Señora de Fátima,The first line in the second reading today says, “I should like you to be free from anxieties.” The priest says this after the Our Father at Mass as well. Wouldn’t that be nice? No more worries? I could only imagine. I think St. Paul understands we will always be worried about something, but he would like us to be more worried about the things of the Lord.

What happens with most of us is we get so caught up with everyday worries that we rarely even think about God or Jesus. Most of the saints found out that by thinking about the things of the Lord more and more, the rest of life begins to fall into place. We are less anxious about everyday things because we have things in the right order.

Here are some examples to help put the things of the Lord first: start and finish your day with at least 15 minutes of quiet prayer; try to go to Mass or make a church visit once during the week; do more spiri-tual reading; go on a weekend retreat; prepare for the Sunday Mass by reading the readings before; get the 3-minute retreat app. When we attach ourselves more to God we are freed of our anxieties.

La primera línea en la segunda lectura de hoy, dice, “me gustaría que ustedes fueran libres de ansiedades.” El sacerdote dice esto después del Padre Nuestro en la Misa también. ¿No sería agradable? No más preocupaciones? Sólo podía imaginarlo. Creo que San Pablo entiende que siempre vamos a estar preocupados por algo, pero le gustaría que estuviéramos más preocupado por las cosas del Señor.

Lo que sucede con la mayoría de nosotros es que nos envolvemos con las preocupaciones cotidianas que rara vez pensamos en Dios o Jesús. La mayoría de los santos se enteraron de que por pensar en las cosas del Señor, cada vez más, el resto de la vida comienza a caer en su lugar. Estamos menos ansiosos por las cosas de todos los días porque tenemos cosas en el orden correcto.

He aquí algunos ejemplos para ayudar a poner las cosas del Señor, primero: iniciar y terminar el día con un mínimo de 15 minutos de oración en silencio; tratar de ir a misa o hacer una visita a la iglesia una vez durante la semana; leer más lectura espiritual; ir a un retiro de fin de semana; prepararse para la misa del domingo leyendo las lecturas antes; obtener la aplicación 3-minutos de retiro. Cuando nos apegamos más a Dios somos liberados de nuestras ansiedades.

In order to deepen our love of Christ, Catholics are encouraged to: participate at daily Mass, pray more fervently, give generously to re-ligious and charitable work, do some act of penance and self-denial, especially regarding alcoholic drink and social entertainment.

New Colors in the Church / Los Colores Nuevos en la Iglesia These articles will help give everyone an insight into our new interior colors and how to let them help you pray better. When choosing colors, the first thing we noticed was how many different colors there are in the sanctuary in the different marbles and mosaics. Rather than emphasizing any one color, we picked a color that could unite the many colors together and inspiration came from the central marble motif. Hopefully this helps tie the sanctuary pieces together and em-phasizes each pieces unique character.

Teen Confirmation/Adolescentes de la Confirmacion First Year Candidates (C1) - Your February gathering is tonight, February 1, in McGowan Hall. We will meet immediately following the 5pm Mass and dismiss at 8pm. Teen Leadership invites all Confirmation candidates, both C1 and C2, to sit together with the leadership team at the 5pm Mass. Catholic School’s Week Update: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and ServiceThank you to all of the families that took the time visit our all-school Science Fair and took a tour of the classrooms. We appreciate your interest and support of our school. The students and staff took part in numerous daily activities that included:

Parent Appreciation Day Parents were surprised with banners of appreciative slogans and a bag of goodies at morning carpool.

Community Appreciation Day Each class visited a San Clemente organization with appreciation certificates, cards and well-wishes.

Clergy Appreciation Day All of our priests were celebrated and received large stacks of cards containing hugs & kisses.

Teacher Appreciation Day The teachers dined on a fabulous lunch provided by the TK and 7th grade classes.

Student Appreciation Day Included a themed dress-up day, a pizza party and entertainment.
