I Am The Good Shepherd – The image of God as shepherd and his promise to lead his people in safety appears throughout the Bible. It is one of the most tender images of God that we can have as he assures us of his constant care and protection in our lives. This care applies
not only to us individually as his children, with the shepherd carrying us in his arms, but also to us collectively as the Church, with God leading his flock in safety. This repeated promise to shepherd his people is our guarantee that God is in charge of his Church and that he leads us no matter the circumstances. As we journey On Mission for The Church Alive! we may wonder where the Lord is leading us. While it is natural for us to resist change, it is also an opportunity for us to grow in trust of God, our shepherd and guide, that he may transform us and his Church. As we learn the decisions regarding Parish Groupings and Clergy Teams next week may we call upon our Good Shepherd to lead us and our parishes in the years ahead. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.

April 22nd World Day of Prayer for Vocations
In our politically charged society, I imagine many have heard the quote, "It takes a village..." Whether or not one likes the politics of the author of that quote, in the words
are truth. It takes many people to create and sustain a community.
For those of us who are Catholic, we believe in the power of vocations to help spread the Gospel message. And vocations are an important part of the community.
The vocations to priesthood, or the deaconate, or religious life are at the center of our efforts to spread the good news. However, we need to also speak about the
vocation of married life as service to the church; and furthermore, the vocation of single life. It is at our baptism that we are given the mandate to spread the Gospel through our vocation in the church.
"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, then I will enter his house and dine with him, and he with me" (Rv 3:20).
We hear in Scripture that Jesus stands at the door of our heart and knocks. He only invites and never demands or breaks into our lives without our acceptance. He knocks, we open the door, and the invitation and welcome are complete.
Let us pray... God of the invitation,
you knock upon the door of everyone's heart. We seek the courage to open that door, for we know the responsibility of saying yes.
We humbly ask you for your wisdom to serve your church with compassion and acceptance. We believe that when we say yes, you will provide the grace for the work ahead.
Give grace to those men and women who have dedicated their lives to constant service to your church. Also give grace to those couples and single men and women who work for the church in their secular lives.
We ask all this through Christ our Lord and brother, who live and reign with you and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
"How long has Jesus been knocking at the door of your heart, waiting to enter?" -St. John Baptist de la Sall

Everyday Stewardship
During the Easter season, we reflect on being followers of the stone that the builders rejected, the crucified and risen Jesus. Like a shepherd he leads us by his voice that echoes throughout the centuries and remains real and effective even in our modern world. To be his disciple means to risk rejection in a similar way as he experienced. The shepherd will not lead his lambs into danger, but there is danger all around us regardless. Everyday Stewardship can be something we talk about in the abstract or a way of living we simply wish we could follow. It can be an imperfect reality that at times places us in direct conflict with the world. As we decrease and Jesus increases in us, many will be drawn to the love and compassion that flows through us. However, some will see us for fools and will suggest we are ridiculous. Cultivating our gifts for God's sake and the total surrender of all we possess and have become to God is not wise in some eyes. Either they think we are crazy, or, just maybe at times, the example of our lives causes them to question their own values. If you give a little, you will be admired. If you give a lot, you will be celebrated. If you give it all, you can be rejected. Not everyone will have this negative reaction. Some will see your example and will seek to do the same. They will then join you in following the shepherd. They will become a true sign of Jesus Christ to the world. But their conversion of heart begins with you and your example. --Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS
