OCTOBER 2014 ISSUE 88

KELLY’S INTRODUCTION

This will be the last newsletter of 2014, considering the next issue will be January 2015. So as our 10th year of existence draws to a close, I must thank each and every one of you for your continued support.

Thankfully, as we complete our first decade, member support is increasing. We’ve always had a renewal rate above 90% but it is currently 97%, which is higher than recent years.

97% is an exceptional statistic, given the number of networks in existence.

Clearly, with so many new networks arriving on the scene, constantly inviting you to join them, you are valuing what matters most - the bond that we have collectively formed over the past years.

When we’re at our meetings, the bond is most palpable. The hugs, the fun, the friendship – it can be positively overwhelming. Amazingly, we already have 194 Delegates from 147 companies in 74 countries signed up to meet again in Beijing in April 2015, who will help us reach an amazing 200? What a phenomenal number, considering we are still 7 months away from the event. Take a look at the Delegate List further down in this newsletter, or in the Member Website and complete the WFN Booking Form if your company is not currently registered. The Meeting Manager system will be opening in the first week of January, so it will soon be time to pay for your meeting attendance.

I think another reason WFN continues to be supported, is the fact that I am strong, fair and honest in my leadership; my reputation is everything in this industry. Thank you for trusting and believing in me. Running a network is a challenging role, but it is one that I relish.

It is equally imperative that all Members are decent and open in all dealings. I am delighted to see how respectfully our Members treat one another. Having such great ethics at our core - reliability, positivity, integrity

Sitaram said in one of the videos on our Youtube Channel, that we are the World Family Network and it is true - this is why we will continue to stand united in our quest to excel and provide for our families, including generating increased revenue streams for our WFN family members.

Thank you once again for everything.

MEMBER COMMENTS "Thank you for the video. I went through the July newsletter and it really expresses maximum satisfaction from all those who made valuable comments. It shows the positive opinion each member has towards seeing this network grow and bond us together as one family. I am also honoured to see my comments expressed in the newsletter." Peter Mwangi of Simpet Global Logistics KENYA "I like the Video Kelly. Good job." Raymond van der Veld of SMART Logistics NETHERLANDS "Many thanks for your message, concerning the business in HK, it’s getting tough I would say, as the market is so very competitive, in order to keep the customer with us, we are not only have to offer good quality service but a cost effective solution is the key to win, with this view we have integrated our company business early this year as to provide full service of airfreight, ocean freight, logistics ( finance & purchasing ) and supply chain management that meet the global trade requirement. As a long WFN member, we already know that WFN is a network only for good quality agent, so we will keep looking for the good quality agent who is able to meet your high standard and we definitely would recommend it to you accordingly." Simon Liu of J & S Express HONG KONG "I think it is a great idea, particularly for a company like ours that is primarily air freight based. We do not have the volume to secure competitive rates from the steamship lines and we can’t secure enough new business to build the volume, because are rates are not low enough. It is a vicious cycle. If this is an opportunity for us to break this cycle and grow an important aspect of our business then we want to participate and will provide you with the necessary support." Michael Dean of Geo Express International CANADA "We would like to thank for taking time out of your busy schedule to send an email/video with us. It was greatly appreciated. Over the past years of being a member of one of the most reputable network around the world and having with accommodating and cooperative members, We are proud to say that PRIME LOGISTICS W.L.L are very grateful to be one of the partners of this influential and highly esteemed network. We will do our best to recommend some reliable members not only for availing the Free Membership Renewal but for us to help and contribute for the continuing success of this network. Like what PRIME LOGISTICS W.L.L is always saying "SUCCESS THROUGH SERVICE" we are always ready to lend a helping hand." G. D. Khan Bangash of Prime Logistics QATAR "Hi Kelly , you are looking Gr8 , good to see your personal message and definitely will try to find people interested to join our networks not sure of my contribution though. I am just trying to disassociate myself from other networks this year because WFN members in itself has all the potentials to offer competitive service so to maintain existing customers and develop new biz. As I said before also that my prospective towards not getting return biz from WFN partners changed with feelings that if I have good handling partner who serve my client like my own office in that city / country, it is a tremendous help than giving me some little return business and spoils my own existing clients biz. I am happy to be alive with the company of you all WFN buddies." Arvind Sharma of Swift Freight Moovers INDIA

NEW MARKETING BROCHURE ISSUED As you know, one of the main purposes of a Freight Network membership, is to assist a Forwarder in winning new business. Rather than looking like a small stand alone, you instantly becomes part of an elite, global group. This is well understood at WFN Head Office and to ensure that this message is conveyed to potential clients, personalised brochures are available to you free of charge. Please email Debbie to receive yours. Along with your contact details, photographs of your staff can be added to the brochure, or it can be issued as it appears below.

Here are some of the comments received from WFN Members since the new brochure was issued: "Wow Kelly, thanks, this is such a great design. Really clean and fresh. I know that it will help me win new business." "Perfect for my business. WFN is always one step ahead, endeavouring to keep giving us new tools to succeed. Thanks a lot." WFN Founder, Kelly Bunyan is delighted with the new brochure: "I am so happy that this new design has been so well received. GROWING BUSINESS IN A SHRINKING WORLD Bon Bini Cargo Services are Aruba's best known and most trusted freight customs broker on the Island. Bon Bini Cargo will handle all of your shipping needs, whether you are bringing it in, needing it sorted, or exporting it off the Island. WFN wanted to find out more about the company, where it all started and how networking was helping in today's market. Donald De Veer, Managing Director of Bon Bini Cargo Services, happily answered some of these questions: How did you start out in Freight Forwarding? My Aunt in Miami needed a representative for her Consolidation business in Aruba, I just finished College and this is how I started On September 15, 1990. Can you give us your general thoughts on the logistics industry today and how it has changed over the past few years? In the 90’s we didn’t have emails so all the documents needed to be sent by courier and net work was smaller. It is so much easier now. How do you see the future for independent freight forwarders? Our dedication takes the service to another level and this keeps the independent freight forwarders going. What are the main challenges for privately owned independent forwarders? You will have challenges if you just started out and don’t have the proper network in place, we don’t experience any challenges because we are private. As we all know, job-hopping is a common scene in the industry. How do you cope with this? When I just started in the 90’s I had to deal with this problem but as the company became bigger we have not experienced this. I treat my team as if they are my family. Most of my employees have been with me for more than a 10 years. I several that are more than 20 years with the company. What are your experiences in risk control? How do you avoid risks? All customers need to sign a waiver. I assume you that it has to do with the freight movements? Could you please share with us your future company plans? Since we are on a small Island we always look for ways to grow within the freight service business. Two years ago we started with third party storage and inventory control and we have grown also in this area which made us purchase another warehouse of 3000m2. Could you give a brief description of the forwarding in your country? We are more of an import business since we do not export that much from Aruba. At the moment the only export we have is scrap material for our customers and some returned goods. Has your WFN Membership assisted the growth of your company/helped you survive in a challenging economy? WFN came in handy for some logistic contacts to ship from their country to Aruba for our clients How relevant is networking in today’s forwarding industry? Networking is very important since the world is getting smaller and companies import or export from or to all over the world since the introduction of the websites and emails.

NETWORKING IS A MUST FOR FUTURE BUSINESS Trust Freight International Ltd has been established in EGYPT since 1995, joined to the private sector and working in the int ernational trade and business since then. Mr Sherif Mesbah, ,Overseas Coordinator & Alexandria Branch Manager of Trust Freight International was happy to share his point of view on the industry: How did you start out in Freight Forwarding? In 1985 I graduated in the Faculty of Engineering – Alexandria University EGYPT. I worked as a civil engineer for five years. Then in 1990 I started working for DANZAS the big Swiss forwarding company where I learnt and loved this kind of business. In 1991 I was promoted to be the Sea freight department manager then in 1992 I became the Airfreight manager. In 1993 DANZAS was divided into a group of companies and I was invited to be the assistant general manager of one of them. In 1995 my two partners and I established our own Trust Freight International Ltd. Co. and since then we have been working together on the development of our TRUST GROUP EG. Can you give us your general thoughts on the logistics industry today and how it has changed over the past few years? From my modest point of view, there are two main pivots that our industry stands on and is being affected by, they are the fast technology development AND the international political plans. Sometimes going up and sometimes down.in order to keep this industry growing, all of the concerned parties must be convinced that their benefits will grow by our growth. I mean actual sellers and buyers, Governments and finally shipping and air lines. We are not competitors of any of them. We are just offering them our services to help them concentrate on their initial tasks and achieve higher scores. How do you see the future for independent freight forwarders? Well small freight forwarders will remain small, while big ones will gather and pool their experiences and efforts to offer t he best solution for clients’ forwarding problems. By turn this will definitely need a higher organising party to regulate every detail among thos e big ones. Of course I mean here the Freight Forwarding reliable networks like WFN for example. What are the main challenges for privately owned independent forwarders? To prove they are a trustful important party in the chain. Honest and active. As we all know, job-hopping is a common scene in the industry. How do you cope with this? Instead of paying high to attract good employees to your organisation and to keep them for longer time, I think it would be b etter for you and them if you share them in your profits and losses in a way or another. Like sales commissions and over -target bonus and so on. What are your experiences in risk control? How do you avoid risks? Most probably, we supervise our shipments by our staff step-by-step while in sensitive cases we insure them. We explain then charge our cli-ents for these additional services. Could you please share with us your future company plans? We are now a group of companies called TRUST GROUP EG. One of them is Trust Freight International Ltd. while the others are working in other business aspects. But all of them are depending on the whole TRUST GROUP’s companies. So we as partners and managers are putti ng our plans for all of them according to local circumstances. Regarding the freight forwarding business, we’ll concentrate in the near future on AGRI-CULTURE and SOLLAR SYSTEMS in exports and imports. This may start with small airfreight and LCL shipments but soon it will turn into big volumes as expected. Could you give a brief description of the forwarding in your country? Egypt has lost a lot of time and now it’s rapidly getting up. We suffered a lot in the past from the obstacles we were fighting in the freight for-warding business. Roads were not well paved and not well secured. No discipline or honesty in most of the execution steps… etc. But now eve-rything is getting better so we are so optimistic. This includes sea and air freight and customs and haulage services. Has your WFN Membership assisted the growth of your company/helped you survive in a challenging economy? Honestly speaking yes it did. And more honestly speaking it could assist members more. I think it only needs a simple way to explore and introduce each member’s tools to others. How relevant is networking in today’s forwarding industry? As I have mentioned here before it will be a must in the near future business.

WFN MEMBERSHIP HELPED BUSINESS WFN Founding Members Asia Airfreight were established in 1971, predominately to act as a customs broker, and a freight forwarding division.

How did you start out in Freight Forwarding? To be honest, I got the offer here for this job and stayed in this company for 7 years till now. Can you give us your general thoughts on the logistics industry today and how it has changed? For me quite the same those years but learned from some senior in the industry that due to clients in the past don’t have so much fast information in the market. Profit normally can be better as they don’t get quotation so often. How do you see the future for independent freight forwarders? As long as there are still international trading in the market, we can survive but due to clients having more and more options, service level must improve, business scope must be larger, and sure have to be more and more professional and effective. Only with those, we can survive. What are the main challenges for privately owned independent forwarders? Those international forwarders can eat us by lower their cost easily and they can also base losing money to win some major account to achieve their global goal. As we all know, job-hopping is a common scene in the industry. How do you cope with this? I don’t have such problem so far (Should be worried for this) but I hope there are some good people can hop to our company. What are your experiences in risk control? How do you avoid risks? For those you don’t trust simply ask money from them before you send any cargo…better not to have the business than lost all the money Could you please share with us your future company plans? Trying to get more business from project cargo…and some big factories that supplies cargo for interna-tional big companies. Has your WFN Membership assisted the growth of your company/helped you survive in a challenging economy? WFN has sure helped me a lot in my business..

DRAGON LOGISTICS ENJOYS WORKING WITH WFN MEMBERS VERY MUCH We spoke with Candy Chen of Dragon Logistics, she was kind to share the following interview: How did you start out in Freight Forwarding? 0n July of 2003 I graduated from University, then I joined Dragon Logistics, working in the operation dept. Can you give us your general thoughts on the logistics industry today and how it has changed over the past few years? Logistics industry in China has been developing rapidly during the past 15 years, benefiting from the fast growing economy in China. Most of the logistics companies had very good time, for example, Dragon Logistics had 40% or higher increasing every year during 2000~2010. After year of 2010, business becomes rather than stable instead of increasing rapidly. China is losing the advantages on the labour cost, and external appreciation of RMB, have lead the exporting business slowing down. Furthermore, the competition for logistics business has become so strong due to numbers of global companies are coming to China after year of 2003, which gives Chinese Logistics companies very strong pressure. In the meantime, we see a great potential as well, due to the changing of business model. First, China imports more and more, importing business for lots of logistics companies are increasing rapidly. Second, cross border E-Commerce is bringing new opportunities to the logistics companies on international courier, overseas warehousing..etc. Another changing I have seen, is that Chinese logistics companies start to go to overseas and become globalized, either by setting up its own office or by acquisition. It is one of the plans of Dragon Logistics for the future 10 years as well. How do you see the future for independent freight forwarders? Freight forwarding business is not an easy business, competition will be stronger and stronger. However I could see that there are lots of opportunities that we could grow, by sharpen the buying power, or by sales expansion, or by setting up new offic-es..etc. On top of forwarding business, we get the opportunities to enter into GSA business and supply chain management business. Most important, is to change, either inside of the compa-ny or outside of the company. What are the main challenges for privately owned independent forwarders? 1, Cash flow - forwarders are running like bank in lots of countries as well as China. 2, People - In China this is a very critical problem for all of the forwarders. Average changing rate of the staff is higher up to 40% per year for the whole industry. It is quite easy to find a new job in the major cities of China and lots of staff are easily to leave the company. 3, Business maintenance and expansion - in year of 1990s forwarders in China could mark up USD1000/Container, now the figure is less than 1/10. Strong competition will kill lots of forwarders. As we all know, job-hopping is a common scene in the industry. How do you cope with this? I can't say that we have coped with this problem. In general we are : 1, Spending a lot of time and money on team building, including company culture guidance, internal and external training..etc. 2, Helping the major staff / management team to design their career, providing them the channel of promotion, to build the self-satisfactions. 3, Design the incentive programs for different team - for example, for small branches within 10 persons, we are giving them 20% on top of the figures which the company wants as incentive. It is an art to maintain the team in China. What are your experiences in risk control? How do you avoid risks? Major risk in our industry are: 1, Payment collection 2, Lawsuit and compensation leads by different issues, like damage, agent releases the shipment without collection of original HBL..etc. We buy forwarder liability insurance every year to cover possible loss. In the other hand, our risk control department and lawyer give training to our staff on how to avoiding the risk situations. Most important, we select reliable and professional partner and network to work with - it is one of the reason that we are in WFN.

INTERVIEW WITH DRAGON LOGISTICS, CHINA - SHANGHAI CONTINUED Could you please share with us your future company plans? For Dragon Logistics, we will focus more on : 1, Importing business developing - including the freight forwarding and the supply chain management which covers purchasing, trading, marketing, sales and E-Commerce. 2, Airfreight business - 60% of our business is airfreight, as one of the biggest master loaders of airfreight in major airports, we block space with lots of airlines, we want to use the advantage of experience, team..etc to expand airfreight business more. 3, GSA business - Dragon Logistics is GSA for Copa Airlines, AeroUnion, TAP Portugal and Czech Airlines in China, with very good performance. We want to work for more airlines. 4, Logistics service for cross border E-Commerce 5, Globalization Could you give a brief description of the forwarding in your country? Comparing with Europe and U.S.A, forwarding industry of China is still a baby, there are lots of problems like efficiency, profession, problems shooting, also honesty attitude. I do believe that it will become more and more well developed. A lot of opportunities yet lots of challenges. Very difficult industry yet lots of fun. Has your WFN Membership assisted the growth of your company/helped you survive in a challenging economy? Yes for sure. So far we enjoy working with the members very much. We hope to develop much more mutual business with members. How relevant is networking in today’s forwarding industry? Even global companies need network except its own offices. Forwarding industry is people's industry, no machines could replace. Network is a key of success in our industry.

CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT NETWORKING- IT IS VITAL TO ANY BUSINESS Jordanian Coast Cargo Services, established since 1999, work as agents for the United Nations. Specialising in the packing/crating & forwarding of oversized goods & personal effects, they are a team of experienced professionals. We spoke with Tarik Diab, Managing Director of Jordanian Coast Cargo Services who shared the following interview: How did you start out in Freight Forwarding? Worked for a company for 1 year. Then started my own back in 1999. Can you give us your general thoughts on the logistics industry today and how it has changed over the past few years? I think the main changes are that too many people are getting into the industry with no knowledge or back ground or even training. Also, the rules of transport and customs stricken regulations in the rough times that we live in are necessary , and yet complicated and sometimes frustrating. How do you see the future for independent freight forwarders? They need to work hard on competing with the big names in the industry. Going the extra mile, always makes you stand out. What are the main challenges for privately owned independent forwarders? Competing with much larger companies and even groups. Securing business on door to door is hard if your partner on the oth-er side is not your own. As we all know, job-hopping is a common scene in the industry. How do you cope with this? Treating your staff right, and knowing their lives like your own, will help build the solid foundation that we have now. Times are tough, on the owners and also on the staff. This is what most owners forget. What are your experiences in risk control? How do you avoid risks? Training & knowing the business will help eliminate the risk. If you know your stuff, you will pass the test. Could you please share with us your future company plans? We just moved into our new Office and Warehouse space. Fully owned and build from the ground up. We are negotiating on buying more land as we need to Expand our open air storage for future car storage for the United nations. Could you give a brief description of the forwarding in your country? We live in a HOT zone with all the sense of the word. Jordan, we are surrounded by Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia & Israel. Very interesting neighbours. The customs regulations have gotten tougher due to the low security from the surrounding countries. Otherwise, it is well organized. Has your WFN Membership assisted the growth of your company/helped you survive in a challenging economy? Yes, to a point. We are still hoping to grow more in WFN where we will benefit and benefit fellow members. How relevant is networking in today’s forwarding industry? CAN’T live without it. It is Vital to any business.

WFN HAS ASSISTED US TO GROW OUR BUSINESS

Union Power Logistics Services Co Ltd in Myanmar offer a full range of freight forwarding services including: International Freight Forwarding 3PL (contract logistics), Warehousing & Delivering Customs Clearance & Trucking Personal effect, entertainment & exhibition cargo handling Port Agency Coastal Transport Border Transport. Mr Tay Zar Tun, Managing Director of UP Logistics, was happy to share some information regarding his company taking part in the WFN Interview: How did you start out in Freight Forwarding? After 13 years working as employee at several shipping, logistics and forwarding companies, I have got a team who are willing to work together and set up a forwarding company. Sharing 50% of company profit to the team, we started rolling the company and now we are on the way to our goal. Can you give us your general thoughts on the logistics industry today and how it has changed over the past few years? As we are living in isolate country like Myanmar, our main business is freight forwarding like Buy and Sell Freight (Freight Broking). But country is changing to a positive direction after releasing of People leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, our freight forwarding business is developing to logistics side. (Before that most of the business men are doing themselves for the customs clearance, trucking, packing etc). Now business organizations are looking for total logistics companies who can provide reliable services for their day to day logistics solution. For Myanmar , especially South East Asian area, Liners are monopolize the market (sourcing clients details from forwarders data base – i.e Master B/L must show actual shipper or consignee details address and person contact when forwarder make booking). These were the rule since 1998 where Myanmar shipping business started. But after since clients are looking for the additional services other than just port to port & air port to air port, forwarders and logistics company has more chances to hold their client day after day. On the other hand , client are also try to minimize the cost of logistics – instead of employing their own logistics people, try to outsource from logistics companies for the commodity flow from factory door to shop floor. Small & Medi-um logistics firm got small and medium business but the giants. As far as small & Medium client (traders) are developing, the logistics industry would still sunshine. Especially for the small & medium firms. How do you see the future for independent freight forwarders? Independent freight forwarders mostly are focus on small and medium business firms who need personal attach, case to case negotiation and information feeds where the giants are not able to invest. The more develop or born of small and medium business traders , the independent freight forwarders’ future is bright. What are the main challenges for privately owned independent forwarders? Air liners & Ocean Liners are trying to develop their own logistics arm and try to deal with client directly. As we all know, job-hopping is a common scene in the industry. How do you cope with this? Give all hopes; share the benefit base on their effort. Especially to those who drove the company profit and develop-ment. I do not believe commission basis or higher salary offer. It’s stable only when there is not higher offer. People al-ways think of what would be their future. So, need to pay for the recent living cost and let them work for their future together. What are your experiences in risk control? How do you avoid risks? There is always risk. More for a logistics company or a freight forwarder. We do not avoid risks, we take a risk but only calculative risk.

CONTINUED….

Could you please share with us your future company plans? We are trying to develop our country, we try to create job for the people, and make the people understand, No Job, No hope. When the country & people develop, we will develop (like water & lotus). We are not trying to com-peting to giants but we are trying to work with them closely as their sub con or supporters. Strengthen the team ability, management skill and equipment, then we will offer localized strong logistics solution to foreign investors, partners and local clients. Could you give a brief description of the forwarding in your country? For now, country has no export cargo much, trade imbalance, thus mostly focus on Import cargo (FOB POD) and export rate are too low and Liners are directly dealing with client. Logistics is just a start that needs to educate local client and struggle to meet the requirement due to lack of basic infrastructure such as warehouse, lifting gear, proper transport service. Has your WFN Membership assisted the growth of your company/helped you survive in a challenging economy? Sure, WFN membership has assisted us to grow our business. At first, we got several inquiries, but hardly become a business. But we keep answer, try to answer as fast as possible, try to provide information as much as possible, try to offer cost as low as possible and finally , we could grab 2/3 of inquiries now a day. Luckily we are the only one present in Myanmar. But we do understand we need to improve much on keep in touch with agent and share the information about Myanmar. How relevant is networking in today’s forwarding industry? Networking is most important in today forwarding industry since business cannot secure from only one side of the world. Eg. Loading China, Deliver to Myanmar, Payment want in Hong Kong and insurance should buy at Singapore. But network is gathering individuals that individual goals. Sometimes its hard to find good partner for joint sales. (Sales lead to secure the projects etc). Individual network is strongly effective for case to case business, but hardly workable for joint sale.

WFN IS A GOOD FAMILY Danushka Silva, Marketing Manager of McCallum Cargo (Pvt) Ltd, Sri Lanka, kindly shared the following information with WFN: How did you start out in Freight Forwarding? I Joined an independent freight forwarder based in Colombo 03,I started as A trainee Marketing Executive and worked my way up to the Manger Marketing in 5 years, Before became the Manager Marketing I was able to handled NVOCC and was able to handled top level co-operate business in Sri Lanka. Today I head a team of marketers oversee the NVOCC operations at McCallum. Can you give us your general thoughts on the logistics industry today and how it has changed over the past few years? Today the logistics industry is more complex and competitive. We can see under quoting and extended credit offering in the industry. However there are still good clients out there willing to pay extra for the service level offered. I believe still Industry built around service and the client, forwarder relationship. How do you see the future for independent freight forwarders? I see future independent freight forwarders will have to be very smart and creative in order to retain the market , Also will be determined by such as quality ,dependability ,cost and flexibility. What are the main challenges for privately owned independent forwarders? Working capital / Cash flow , your price and service and how you can sustain the customer’s credit period As we all know, job-hopping is a common scene in the industry. How do you cope with this? Job hopping is one of the common scene in our industry, this will mostly effect to small and medium size companies . So in order to have better avoidance , We have to know each of our staff personally their contribution towards the company and should treat each one of their needs as well. What are your experiences in risk control? How do you avoid risks? As a freight forwarder we must take risk because in our industries credit facility is common when we work with overseas agent and customers we have to give some kind of credit facility. "PRICE INVESTMENT RATIO: THE KEY TO INCREASED PROFITS" DISCUSSED BY NEIL MATTHEWS Have you ever really considered how price affects your customer with regard to their perceived benefit? Too often, we use a simplistic approach to determining price – figure the cost to produce our service, tack on some arbitrary percentage, and call it good. Price, though, is consequential in ways we may not initially consider. The price a person pays for something goes a long way in determining the perceived benefit they expect to get from it. The perceived benefit cuts two ways. First, the expectation of service goes up the more a person pays for something. Second, the perception of what they're gaining also goes up with the amount they pay. The two are not opposites; they work in tandem and in nearly all businesses, this tandem relationship can and does work to your advantage. Many companies - including yours - are known for delivering incredible service. This quality service may be what your customers comment upon and why they are willing to refer you to other customers. This level of service comes at a price. One of the things you always should be doing is explaining to and showing your customers how your level of service helps them. The more you share this type of information with your customers, the more comfortable you become in seeing the value of what you offer. Having confidence in your service allows you to increase your "Price Investment Ratio" (PIR). This all has to do with what you expect customers to pay. The Price Investment Ratio (PIR) is the amount over the minimum amount a person would have to pay for something. They are willing to pay it to feel confident in what they are buying. There are no two ways about it – when you have great service but do not reflect it in your PIR, then you are underselling. If you are underselling, you are not making the profits you could be making. In order to find out your PIR, do a deep dive with your existing customers to get them to tell you what your service means to them. Once you do this, you can then match up what existing customers are telling you with what prospective customers are asking you to do. When you grasp this, you begin to understand what your PIR really should be. How much "investment" is the customer willing to make in going with you instead of your competitor? Companies don't “buy” anything, they only invest. If your customer can't see the return on investment, they won't invest – they won't pay the price you want to get. When they do see the value, though, then you can feel very confident in charging a price above what your competitors charge. Don't settle for a lower price when doing so is detrimental to your bottom line. If you would like more information regarding this subject, please email [email protected]

WFN MEMBERS COMPLETE SHIPMENT OF MOZARELLA CHEESE FROM ROME TO NEW YORK WFN Members Flash Cargo (USA) & SOTRADE (Italy) were given the chance to win a contract to move fresh mozarella cheese, which they successfully completed the first shipment yesterday and secured the contract. Freddie Tarnok of Flash Cargo (USA) stated, "After weeks of negotiating, planning and fine tuning, we finally had our first “test” shipment of fresh mozzarella cheese from Rome to JFK New York. The first shipment only weighed around 190 kilos but it was a test shipment to see if we can stand be-hind the statement that we are professionals and that we know freight forwarding 101. The consignee received strong pressure from JAS (Jet Air Services) in Italy to let them start handling these shipments. So, on Monday night the first shipment was delivered to Sotrade’ s Airport facility, refrigerated from arri-val up to time of loading into the aircraft. The documents were issued, the freight cleared through Italian Customs and loaded, as booked, on a flight to New York yesterday. The flight arrived at JFK around 6:15 last night. While still in the air, we cleared the shipment through U.S. Customs and USDA. We picked-up the ship-ment around 9:00 PM and delivered to the consignee’s restaurant in downtown Manhattan by 10:00 PM. The reason I am telling you this is that since we, and I do mean we (Sotrade and Flash Cargo), proved to the consignee that our system and our cooperation works flawlessly. Bottom line, we expect to have a minimum of 2 shipments per week, possible increasing to 3. That is 104 to 156 shipments per year for one customer, one restaurant. (They have two locations in NYC with plans for more to come, you do the math!)" Well done to Flash Cargo & Sotrade.
