When making your choices, here are a few factors worth thinking about:

Subject Choice: It is really important that you enjoy the subjects that you intend to take, so think carefully about your options, speak to the

dierent subject areas during your visit to the college, make sure you have a passion for the subjects you choose.

Future Plans: Do you know what you want to do with your future? Do you need to attain specific qualifications in specific subjects? Find out the

answers by speaking to our careers advisor who will be on hand throughout the open days and enrolment events.

Entry Requirements: What are your GCSE results likely to look like? This is a question worth asking yourself now. Dierent courses do have

dierent entry requirements, so make sure you check by looking at the subject requirement in this prospectus or by talking to the subject sta in

person.

A level Reform information

As part of its A Level Reform package, the Government has proposed wholesale changes to the way Level 3 subjects are delivered and examined.

From 2015, regardless of any changes in government, AS and A2 qualifications are set to run as two dierent qualifications, with varying content

and diering examinations.

AS levels will run across one academic year and will be examined at the end of that year. A2 qualifications will be completed over six traditional

school terms and these will be examined at the end of two years, with no modular elements being examined.

Like all other Post 16 providers, we are currently working with examination boards, universities and other centres to check our provision and to

ensure that we are oering a suitable mix of AS and A2 qualifications. Further details on how they will be taught at Ossett Sixth Form will be

released in due course.

These changes are being introduced in three stages, in three dierent years for dierent subjects. The table below outlines when changes will

occur:

making the right choice

Fantastic FacilitiesEvery year we invest time and money to ensure that our students benefit from a supportive environment in which to learn. We have two dedicated

Post 16 study areas, which have ICT facilities, access to on-line resources as well as subject specific support and revision materials. We also have

great sports facilities, which can be accessed before and after college, and our media provision includes a Mac editing suite and green room. The

newly refurbished social area incorporates ‘The Lounge’, our Sixth Form specific refectory, serving food and beverages throughout the day. There

is also a modern internal social space complete with TV screen and free Wi-Fi access.

Student voiceAt Ossett we strongly believe that our students are central to the life of the college and we place a massive emphasis on the value of student voice.

Our senior students together with our specialist ambassadors and subject reps form a hub of students, who work for you all to ensure that students

are heard and listened to, making sure that your ideas and requests are acted upon. The development of ‘The lounge’, the addition of screens in

the social areas, the improved study facilities, outdoor seating and many other developments have all come about thanks to the suggestions of our

students over the past few years.

07

Would you like the opportunity to take part in some

competitive or recreational sporting activities, or

perhaps strengthen your application for teaching by

working in main school or primary education? Does the

idea of learning sign language or perhaps being able to

make tasty and exciting meals on a budget sound like a

great idea? At Ossett, we oer you the chance to do all

of these things - and more besides!

Life as a student at Ossett Sixth Form College involves a

stimulating mix of study and enrichment activities.

Enrichment provides scope for you to develop existing

interests or indeed try new ones for the first time. Our

enrichment programmes involve extra-curricular

activities, which you can tailor and alternate to

accommodate your needs.

Why is enrichment important? We know that getting into your chosen university isn’t easy and that many courses are oversubscribed. The same is true when you are looking

for the right job opportunity; competition is something you will always be up against. At Ossett, we want to ensure that you leave us with the

best possible profile of academic success and additional skills that put you ahead of the game.

Ask yourself the following questions:

Would you like the opportunity to spend time doing something you enjoy and maybe trying something new?

Would you like to pick up skills that will help add another dimension to your personal statement or CV?

Do you want to have more to talk about on your personal statement, or at interview, than just your academic subjects?

Do you want to impress university administration tutors or your potential future employer?

Yes? Then enrichment is for you.

When will it take place?Enrichment takes place on a Wednesday afternoon every week. There is enrichment fair within the first few weeks of college where students

are given the opportunity to select the activities that they would like to take part in. We think that our enrichment programme at Ossett is of

great value, and therefore a commitment to at least one enrichment programme is required.
