VISION – MISSION STATEMENT

“Dulaang Bedista is a drama organization committed to developing a truly Filipino theater and presents educational plays as a vehicle for

academic enhancement and community service.” VISION Dulaang Bedista, the theater organization of San Beda College, envisions: A transformed society,

Where all peoples treat theater Arts as one of the means of entertainment and an outlet of societal despair and personal transgressions and where the society acquires theater discipline that can be used to achieve economic, political, and cultural development and could benefit all aspects of the society.

Itself, growing as

A drama organization that influence the Bedan community, spearhead change and eliminate mediocrity in the society through actualizing plays and activities which are descriptive and relevant to the signs of times.

A serving family that showcases talents and passion for the arts through social service, catechisms and care for the environment and by introducing theater or the Arts to the society as an outlet of emotional pain, depression and suffering.

MISSION With the end in mind, Dulaang Bedista, aims:

To participate fully in the Vision of San Beda College as an institution growing as a community striving to be fully human, wholly Christian, and truly Filipino and responding to the call to service and leadership.

To provide education in performing Arts within the organization and to the Bedan community while inculcating Benedictine Values of Ora et Labora and instilling discipline, humility and unity.

To ceaselessly build itself as a Christian theater organization where members and officers work in solidarity and harmony, striving for a community of peace, prayer and unity and to achieve their vocation to motivate, inspire, to serve, to entertain and teach.

OBJECTIVES

1.1 To strengthen and to improve the appreciation to the arts and goodwill of man by actualizing

plays which are relevant to the signs of times

1.2 To boost forth the knowledge and skills of the students in the field of performing arts

1.3 To develop the use of the vernacular language as a symbol of unity and pride

1.4 To broaden one’s knowledge in varied arts of different cultures.

CITATIONS / HONORS / AWARDS (See Appendix 1)

Dulaang Bedista the official theater organization of San Beda College, in pursuit of its vision

and mission statement, offered theater services and has participated to the different traditional activities of the Student Council. The involvement of the organization helped us achieve, little by little, its commitment to the Bedan Community. Our inputs serve as our strength to pursue more activities that showcase our identity and our capability.

a. 2nd PLACE – MOST INNOVATIVE BOOTH

Last July 27 to 30 2010, the College of Arts and Sciences led by the Student Council in cooperation with the Student Organization Circle conducted its annual activity – The College Organizations Recruitment Week with the theme, the Animo Hunt: A Safari to the Bedan Life. In this activity, all organizations were given the chance to recruit freshmen and old students. All organizations are in their game face in designing their respective booths for awards wait to the most resourceful, the most innovative, etc. The most innovative booth is the booth that has the most unique concept, in which Dulaang Bedista won second place.

b. THE BEDAN CITATION

The Bedan, the official student publication of the College of Arts and Sciences of San Beda College, in its September-October 2010 (vol. LXVIII no.4) issue, in an article by Jenny Mae Panado entitled SBJMA conducts General Assembly, Dulaang Bedista was cited by President of the San Beda Junior Marketing Association, Ms. Jeremy Magugat, as she said her special thanks to the organizations who made her even possible.

SEMINARS AND CONFERENCES (See Appendix 2)

One of the objectives of Dulaang Bedista, as stated in its Constitution, is to boost forth the

knowledge and skills of the students in the field of performing arts. The organization believes that it can only be achieved through attending seminars and conferences and being with the right people. Thus invitations from other school’s theater organizations are given attention.

a. CONVENTION OF STUDENT THEATER LEADERS (WEST AREA: MANILA) Date: July 31, 2010 Place: De La Salle University – Manila The National Committee on Dramatic Arts of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCDA-NCCA) in cooperation with Alyansa ng mga Manggagawang Pangkultura sa Kamaynilaan at mga Karatig-Pook, Incorporated (alyansa, Inc., an organization that is composed of individual artist and cultural groups from schools, communities, and workplace in the National Capital region. The convention of Student Leaders discussed the preliminary plans for the National Universty and College theater Organization (NUCTO) to be formalized during the National University and College Theater Conference. The convention also featured seminars about ALYANSA inc., cultural orientation, and the History of Student Theater. The convention is also an opportunity for student theater leaders to interact with other fellow student thespians in the Manila Area.

b. PAMBANSANG SEMINAR – WORKSYAP SA FILIPINO

Date: October 20 – 22, 2010 Place: CSB Hotel Inercontinental Conference Center The Pambansang Samahan sa Linggwistika at Literaturang Filipino organized a three-day workshop for all Filipino and Literature teachers and professors nationwide. The workshop is entitled Pagpapataas ng Kaalaman at Kasaysayan: Mga Isyu at Kalakaran sa Linggwistika at Literaturang Filipino. The last day of the event features workshops on Rap, Comic Strip writing and Teleserye. Dulaang Bedista joined the last day of the workshop as it conducts the Teleserye Workshop inculcating Acting. The organization facilitated the said workshop as we apply the insights we’ve gathered in one of the activities that we have conducted.

ACTIVITIES FOR THE SEMESTER These are the activities that the organization has conducted for the First semester of the Academic Year 2010 -2011 1. TITLE: ISIGAW MO PA! DULAANG BEDSITA! Auditions 2010

DATE: July 28, 2010; 9:00am – 4:00pm VENUE: Room 34E BUDGET: P2866.00 BEST FEATURES

- The different activities that establish cooperation between facilitators and members - The last part of the activity that made the members release their emotions - The date and time are convenient RECOMMENDATIONS - More productions this year. - The audience recommends that the next auditions may be held at the Abbot Lopez hall - The organizations recommend that food and drinks will be served.

2. TITLE: The Workshops 2010 (Galingan mo pa! Dulaang Bedista!)

DATE: September 1 and 8, 2010 VENUE: Room 34E BUDGET: P7348.00 BEST FEATURES

- The activity prepared by invited facilitators from PETA - The facilitators - The lecture on theater by Mr. Bodjie Pascua.

RECOMMENDATIONS - Longer time for the workshops should be allotted - A conducive venue for the workshops should be provided to boost the participants. - Workshops on other aspects of production should also be provided and taken into

consideration.

3. TITLE: TvJuan by Smashbox Productions Inc. - Worskhops DATE: September 22, 2010 VENUE: Room 33J (Scriptwriting Workshops) 33 K (Acting Workshops),

33L (Directing Workshops), 33I (Music Workshops) BUDGET: P0.00 BEST FEATURES

- The program is one of the best features - The speakers provided insights that are relevant to students that are about to face reality

after graduation - The workshops gave us a concise background on Acting, directing, Music, and

scriptwriting. RECOMMENDATIONS

- A conducive venue should be provided. - The organization recommends that a longer preparation of all the activities within the day

should be given - We also recommend that a big event like this be given attention.

OTHER INVOLVEMENTS

Dulaang Bedista aims to pursue collaborative efforts and cooperation among other organizations of the College. This is in line with its mission of ceaselessly building itself as a Christian theater organization where members and officers work in solidarity and harmony and striving for a community of peace, prayer and unity and to achieve their vocation to motivate, inspire, to serve, to entertain and teach. For us, THEATER IS SERVICE. Invitations coming from different organizations, both internal and external, helped us to hold on to our vocation. These requests are perceived by the organization as its small help to the Bedan Community and to the society as well.

ACTIVITIES FOR SECOND SEMESTER TITLE: Dulaang Bedista Teambuilding DATE: November 5-6, 2010 PLACE: Angono Rizal SYNOPSIS: Dulaang Bedista wishes to create a strong foundation among its members especially with its new recruits for they are the ones who shall continue the organization’s vocation to the Bedan Community. The said Team Building shall discuss aspects and shall perform activities in line with these facets – Trust, teamwork, Commitment, Taking Responsibility, Communication and Leadership. TITLE: Minor Production DATE: December 2010 PLACE: Multi-Media Room SYNOPSIS: Dulaang Bedista shall present 2 plays for its minor production this coming December featuring its new members and old members. The minor production shall be staged in a smaller venue to establish a more intimate feel towards its audience. TITLE: Outreach Program DATE: December 2010 PLACE: Nueva Ecija SYNOPSIS: As its service to the country, Dulaang Bedista wishes to organize an outreach program to kids this coming December. The organization shall provide acting workshop to kids through the insights we have gained during the Workshop Series. At the end of the program, the kids shall present a short play. TITLE: Culutural Week DATE: February 2010 PLACE: Abbot Lopez Hall SYNOPSIS: the Cultural week, in cooperation with other performing arts organization wishes to awaken the Student body’s consciousness on culture. A separate date for each performing org will be allotted. At the end of the week, a musical will be performed. Separate workshops will be conducted. TITLE: Seniors Play DATE: February 2010 PLACE: Multi-Media Room SYNOPSIS: As its last hoorah, the senior members of Dulaang Bedista shall present their last play. This activity shall be spearheaded by the remaining members. All documents shall be prepared by the residual members as their first activity.
