GATHERING

PRELUDE “Processional Voluntary” D. Lasky Invitation to move outside in the portico.

GREETING The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the

Holy Spirit be with you all.

And also with you Brothers and sisters: We have come together to dedicate our renovations for worship of the Almighty God and for the building up of the Body of Christ. From this day forward let it be a place for the gathering of the people of God, a place for proclaiming the Gospel through Word and Sacrament, and a place for bringing life and hope to us and to this community. Let us pray: Direct us, O Lord in all our doings with your most gracious favor and further us with your continual help, that in all our works begun, continued, and ended in you, we may glorify your holy name and finally, by your mercy, obtain everlasting live; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

PEACE

Peace be to this house,

And to all who enter here.

PSALM 122 (Recited in unison)

I was glad when they said unto me,

“Let us go to the house of the Lord.”

Now our feet are standing

Within your gates, O Jerusalem.

Jerusalem is built as a city

That is at unity with itself;

To which the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord,

The assembly of Israel, to praise the name of the Lord.

For there are the thrones of judgement,

The thrones of the house of David.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:

“May they prosper who love you.

Peace be within your walls

And quietness within your towers.

For my brethren and companions’ sake,

I pray for your prosperity.

Because of the house of the Lord our God,

I will seek to do you good.”

P. All your works praise you, O Lord.

C. And your faithful servants bless you.

PRAYERS OF DEDICATION

P. Accept our roof which we offer in thanksgiving; may it serve to protect and to shelter all who follow you as once the tents of old sheltered those who travelled through the wilderness to a promised land, knowing we are ultimately protected and guided by your word and your word alone. C. Amen. P. Accept our hardwood floor which we offer in thanksgiving; may those who walk on it do so in reverence and in love, giving honor and glory to your holy name. C. Amen. P. Accept these painted walls which we offer in thanksgiving; walls that serve as once did the curtain of the temple which stood between the sacred and the secular. May they always stand as a sign of what awaits above from where we live below, the ultimate sacredness on the other side. C. Amen. P. Accept our backyard which we offer in thanksgiving; may it serve to increase our vision of your glory, remind us of the original garden, and support our calling to worship you in spirit and truth as you originally intended. C. Amen. HYMN All People That on Earth Do Dwell #883

PRAYER OF THE DAY Blessed are you, O Lord our God, king of the universe. The heavens and the earth cannot contain you, yet you are willing to make your home in human hearts. We are the temple of you presence, and this building is the house of your Church. Accept us and this place to which we come to share with others the covenant you make through Holy Baptism, to praise your name, to receive your forgiveness, to hear your Word, and to be nourished by the body and blood of your Son. Be present always to guide and illumine your people. And now, O God, visit us with your mercy and blessing as we dedicate this house to your glory and honor and to the service of all people in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

WORD

Gospel Matthew 7: 24-29

The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. Glory to you, O Lord. 24"Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. 25The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on rock. 26And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell — and great was its fall!" 28Now when Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were astounded at his teaching, 29for he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You, O Christ.

It is indeed right, our duty and our joy… and join their unending hymn:

SANCTUS

WORDS OF INSTITUTION In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.

Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name,

thy kingdom come,

thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power,

and the glory, forever and forever. Amen.

INVITATION The gifts of God for the people of God.
