2015 Orkla acquires Cederroth, a Swedish healthcare company with an extensive range of products in personal care, healthcare, wound care, household and first aid sectors.

2013 The Orkla Branded Consumer Goods business area is re-organised into five units: Orkla Home & Personal, Orkla Confectionery & Snacks, Orkla Foods, Orkla Interna-tional and Orkla Food Ingredients.

2012 Åge Korsvold takes over as Group President and CEO. Orkla enters into agreements to acquire Nor-wegian branded consumer goods companies Jordan and Rieber & Søn. Borregaard is divested and listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange.

2011 Orkla announces that its strategic focus will be on creating growth in its branded consumer goods opera-tions. Sale of Elkem to China National Bluestar Group Co., Ltd (Bluestar). Sale of most of Orkla’s share portfolio and certain other non-core assets.

2006 Orkla Media is sold. Orkla acquires Dansk Droge and the Russian chocolate company Krupskaya.

2004 Carlsberg Breweries sold. Orkla buys SladCo, a leading Russian manufacturer of chocolate, biscuits and confectionery products.

2001 Finn Jebsen takes over as Group President and CEO.

2000 Orkla enters into a joint venture with Carlsberg A/S and acquires a 40 % interest in Carlsberg Breweries. Orkla Media purchases the Danish media group Det Berlingske Officin. The sale of NetCom shares yields a gain of NOK 2,239 million.

1995 Orkla takes over the food manufacturing companies Procordia Food and Abba Seafood in Sweden. The Swedish brewery Pripps and the Norwegian brewery Ringnes merge and are jointly owned by Orkla and Volvo. Orkla invests heavily in Russia through Baltic Beverages Holding.

1992 Orkla Media and Norske Egmont establish the magazine company Hjemmet Mortensen.

1991 A merger with Nora Industrier lays the founda-tion for focus on the Nordic branded consumer goods sector.

Orkla Health- History

How it startedOrkla Health has more than 160 years of experience in production and sales of food supplements.

In 1854 Möller’s was established in Norway and became revolutionary in the processing of cod liver oil. In 1933, Collett Pharma was established in Norway and was known for the brands Nyco and Sanasol and the range of Collet vitamins.And in 1944 Dansk Droge was established in Denmark. Dansk Droge evolved from being a trading company to a pharmaceutical company, and furthermore it became a trendsetter for the distribution of food supplements in grocery chains.In 1990, Möller’s became a part of Orkla. Orkla pur-chased Collett Pharma in 2005 and a year later in 2006 Dansk Droge, and thus Axellus was established as one joint company based on Möller’s, Collett Pharma and Dansk Droge in 2007. In 2014 Axellus was renamed Orkla Health. Orkla Health is working on continued growth through consumer understanding, product innovations and acquisitions.

What is omega-3?All cells in the body need omega-3 fatty acids to function properly. The body can not produce them itself, but depends on getting omega-3 added through the diet, either through food or food supplements.

Omega-3 fatty acidsMöller’s is an expert in the field of cod-liver oils and omega-3 acids. Cod liver oil is purified fat oil, obtained from the fresh livers of codfish or other fish from the Gadidae family. It contains omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins A and D, which are important for the health. DHA and EPA are the most important omega-3 fatty acids. DHA and EPA are found in marine omega-3 and have the best documented beneficial health effects of all omega-3 fatty acids.

Möller’s Cod Liver Oil is a rich source of marine omega-3 from wild Norwegian Arctic cod. You get 1,2 g omega-3 per daily recommended dose, which is more than most omega-3 products on the market.

Why do we need omega-3?Omega-3 fatty acids from fish (DHA+EPA) have documented effect on heart, circulation, brain and vision. It is especially important for pregnant women and children to get a sufficient intake, since omega-3 is essential for the optimal development of brain and vision.

This is where we catch the wild Arctic cod, which has been used in our cod liver oil since 1854. Orkla Care exports the herbal medicine HUSK® Psyllium-husk along with the dietary supplement Husk®fibre and FiberHUSK® for cooking. In the Nordic countries and major parts of Europe our consumers benefit from the high fibre content of the Psyllium husks.

HUSK® products HUSK® PRODUCTS was founded in 1979 by Esther and Werner Ratje. The beneficial effect of Psyllium husks for stomach problems was discovered by Werner Ratje after a meeting with an Indian businessman, who dis-solved a powder made out of these husks in a glass of water to prevent an upset stomach. This aroused Wer-ner Ratje’s curiosity who then set out to help more peo-ple to obtain a healthy stomach.

It was an important recognition when HUSK® Psyllium husks was approved as a herbal medicine for constipa-tion, diarrhoea, irritable bowel syndrome and elevated cholesterol by the Danish Health and Medicines Au-thority in 1996. Psyllium husks contain 85 % dietary fibres. The majority of these are water soluble fibres, but cannot – despite the name – dissolve in water. However, the fibres absorb a minimum of 40 times their own weight and form a gelatinous mass providing the stomach and intestines something to work with, thereby giving you a better digestion.

Furthermore the fibres give you a feeling of fullness due to their increased volume in the stomach. This can help to you if you are on a diet – and also to maintain regular bowel functions during the diet.

Strong bones are the result of saving up. Bones are alive. From birth throughout your life, bone tissue is constantly being built up and broken down. Therefore bones need calcium every day. Dairy products (milk and cheese) and leafy green vegetables (broccoli, spinach and kale) are the most important sources of calcium in the diet. Vitamin D is important for normal calcium absorption, and is found in foods (20%) such as oily fish, meat and eggs. Vitamin D is also formed in the skin when exposed to sunlight (80%). However, vitamin D is not activated until it has passed through the liver and is in the kidneys. At certain times of year it may be very difficult to get the recommended amount of vitamin D from sunlight (winter) and from your diet. Daily weight-bearing exercise is also important for the bones. More than an ordinary multivitamin for over 40 years!The story of LongoVital began in 1974. After a long and effective working life, Professor and Physician, Flem-ming Nørgaard started to feel unwell and without vitality. He therefore asked several of his medical colleagues to examine him, but they could not find concrete signs of illness, and asked him just to take it easy.

One night Flemming Nørgaard ate a very spicy dish at a restaurant. The day after that he felt a lot more ener-getic and set out to investigate whether there were in-gredients in the meal that could explain this. He learned that several of the flavor enhancing herbs and spices for many years had enjoyed recognition for their quali-ties in the ”folk medicine”.

With scientific approach he experimented both on him-self and his wife to find the right combination of herbs and vitamins. Many attempts later, the right combina-tion was finally discovered and LongoVital Classic cre-ated.
