Meaning Virtual team: A group that use technology to stay in connection with the

others members in order to achieve a common goal of the organisation.

These team works from wherever they want.

Business environment : the physical space and the electronic space.

In this case, we will majorly study : trust identity and, social bonding

which is cause of concerns in a virtual team.

Specific purpose : Their goal is to prepare programs for their clients that are highly technical both in terms of the tax laws they cover and the code in which they are written.

Trust

Trust : Important attribute in a team especially in electronic environment.

It is clear that the team have mutual understanding and trust.

As we already know, they exchange e-mail messages many times every day, even when guests or family is there they log on and check in with the others.

Also when Nitya’s child was sick they help each other.

Identity & Social Bonding Though they are virtual team, they meet informally

outside of the scheduled occasions. Ravi has occasionally invited the others to visit his farm. Nitya and Aditya have gotten their families together

several times for dinner. About once a month the whole group gets together for

lunch. They often joke about the managers and workers who are

tied to the office, referring to them as "face timers" and to themselves as "free agents"

Organisation Goal To sustain its reputation of High quality advice and the

excellence of its services by developing programming tools.

In this case, macro that helps them to do their work more efficiently when a major program change is required due to changes/amendments in laws.

“Aditya was successful in creating macro that helps meet the organisational goals.

Ravi tested and conformed it’s working.”

Group Think In group think, there is suppression of individual opinions,

and creative thought which can lead to poor decision and inefficient problem-solving.

Its collective rationalization (defense mechanism in which controversial behaviors or feelings are justified and explained in a seemingly rational or logical manner to avoid the true explanation).

Situations of extreme stress ,or, where moral dilemmas exist -makes groupthink reach consensus that there is no realistic appraisal of alternative courses of action.

What happened….?

Aditya & Ravi along with the team exhibited risk taking behaviour by the team as they kept the innovation to themselves having confidence regarding that the management won’t easily find out about it.

Intention

This risk was weighted against company policy for their own benefits, to help team members in busy season, when everyone on the team was stressed by the heavy workload & most of all program helped in doing the work of four people by only three people, one of them might lose their job because of him.

Also they had more time to pursue their own personal interests.

Judgement Moral or Ethical stance is clearly ignored by the team by

maintaining secrecy of the program from the company.

Aditya who have played a role of leader by guarding his team from getting scattered , in case the company took decision of downsizing one person. He also analysed that profit generated by their innovation was very less in comparison to the leisure time they would have.

He made a terrible mistake by sharing the innovation with other team. But immediately after Aditya realised that matter had gone out of hands he confronted Karan over the lunch and justified so as to protect himself before he was pleaded guilty.

CONCLUSION The team have clearly made a decision beyond traditional &

formal a team by keeping secrecy of innovation from the company though it can improve the quality of work which is beneficial.

Looking at the intention of group think it can be said that everyone was right at their place.

Split The Team: The best solution is to disperse the team and reposition them forming a new team. This breaks their bonding and comfort zone and creates a sense of professionalism which is important at work.

According to us,

The company should understand the intentions and should welcome innovation ensuring that employees should always follow the code of conduct too.
