“The mission of Downtown Mainstreet, Inc. is to ensure ongoing economic development while cultivating a revitalized downtown”

Downtown Mainstreet Inc.Annual Report 2017 - 2018

Dear Friends,The mission of Downtown Mainstreet, Inc. is to ensure ongoing economic development while cultivating a revitalized downtown.

This statement is our steady guidepost. As an organization, we need to regularly review our operations to make sure we are continuously working toward meeting and exceeding this mission. In keeping with our continuous improvement mindset, earlier this year we began a new strategic planning cycle. Our goal has been to look at downtown with not only today in mind, but also what projects can we work on that will put us in the best position to succeed into the future. From a high level perspective we are looking to:

The Weber GroupUW-La Crosse Foundation

Wells FargoWestern Technical College

Kwik Trip, Inc.La Crosse County

Logistics Health, Inc.

(1) Develop a Diverse Downtown, where we will find opportunities for all visitors, business owners and residents to engage, invest in or live downtown; (2) Brand and Celebrate our Identity, which means finding ways to maxi-mize the riverfront, and preserve our history while innovating and planning for the future, but also identify areas where we can draw in new groups who traditionally have not uti-lized the downtown assets; and (3) Ensure Long-Term Sustainability through growth in business and inventory downtown (business and residential) as well as identifying diverse funding sources that will balance our mem-ber and corporate investment support.Downtown has evolved tremendously over the years. There has been extensive growth in new businesses and as well as turnover. Through it all, our mission must continue to guide us. We thank you for being part of our journey in making the downtown of La Crosse one of the best in the country. - Michael Richards

Downtown is not only the central business district of our city, we are the social hub of our community and our entire region.Along with growth comes challenges and the retail world is changing dramatically. We must work together to support our brick and mortar businesses and be mindful to shop local. Customers today not only want great products and services, they look for engage-ment and enhanced experiences.Along with our new strategic goals, this year we will begin the City Vision 2040 Down-town Master Plan in partnership with the City of La Crosse. Join us in this process as we hold focus groups to listen to your needs, share ideas, and move forward to-gether for the next 20 years. -Robin Moses

We are experiencing an urban residential movement that is creating transformational growth. Young professionals, boomers, and many families desire to live in and near down-town. New opportunities and businesses will emerge as we answer the wants and needs of our growing downtown neighborhood.

This year has been another strong year for new businesses, tourism, arts, and residential growth. We have had record property re-invest-ment, and exciting mixed-use develop-ment projects.
