This software is designed to be used in either serial or LAN networks. Whenyou first install the Rapid Eye Operator Software, the serial version of thesoftware is enabled. If you want to change to LAN operation, make the menuselection as explained in Section 2.3 Changing from Serial to LANConfiguration.

Throughout the document, there are differences in many of the screendisplays, depending on the setup you select. In general, serial networks usetelephone numbers while LAN networks use IP addresses. Some field orwindows names are specific to the type of network being used: for exampleDIAL refers to a serial network, while CONNECT refers to a LAN.

To avoid confusion, and to keep this document to a manageable size, thescreens shown refer to a serial network. When field names differ because ofLAN operation, or if we suspect confusion or ambiguity may result, the LANversion of the screen will be displayed along with the serial version.

You can define up to tentelephone numbers that may represent secondary Operator/MonitoringStation sites the Remote Video Unit can call when alarms inputs aretriggered. The numbers are called in order from one to ten.

By enabling the “Enable Dialing” checkbox and defining a call backnumber(s), the Remote Video Unit will dial the first number in the listhaving a valid call time provided you are not connected to an operatorstation. If the Remote Video Unit cannot connect to this operator station,it will retry dialling the number of times specified in the “Retries” box.If, after this, the Remote Video Unit has not connected to the operatorstation, it will proceed to the next valid number in the Callback List andrepeat the process.

☞ Note: Upon successful connection to an operator station, theRemote Video Unit will not attempt to dial subsequent operatorstations for that particular alarm event.

To configure callback numbers, you must be connected to the RemoteVideo Unit that you want to configure. Callback numbers are stored inthe Remote Video Unit.

☞ Important: To use the Enable dialing feature, there must be anumber defined in Callback Numbers. If the checkbox is emptythen the Remote Video Unit will not dial out to an operatorsystem upon the trigger of an alarm input. These alarms will bedelivered when the operator dials into the Remote Video Unit.

6.0 Remote Audio Surveillance 77

6.0 Remote Audio Surveillance

The Remote Audio Surveillance (RAS) feature establishes a separatetelephone call from the audio interface panel (separate optional equipment) atthe remote site to a telephone located at the operator station. Each operatorstation can be programmed with an individual telephone numbercorresponding to the telephone at that station.

☞ Caution: Certain countries have laws governing the use ofaudio equipment. Consult with your local authorities beforeimplementing any audio surveillance equipment.

When the video session connection is established, the operator stationautomatically sends the telephone number to the audio panel, and the audioconnection is set up. This occurs if the session is set up either by the Operatorinitiating the call, or by the Remote Video Unit initiating the call as a resultof an alarm.

☞ Note: Depending on the telephone system configuration, theaudio connection may take up to 20 seconds to complete.

Using the RAS feature, the audio panel can be controlled from within RapidEye. When a microphone and speaker are placed in a zone at a remote site, the RAS feature allows you to listen to conversations and to speak to theremote site. The RAS feature supports up to eight zones.

As an example, a remote site may have a number of zones (for example,Shipping, Reception). A speaker and a microphone (one or both may berequired) can be placed in each zone, along with the camera. The monitoringcenter can call a remote site, then selectively monitor the various zones atthat site.

Alternatively, a “hotline” using a dedicated telephone can connect the remotesite to the monitoring center. The “hotline” telephone automatically calls themonitoring center whenever the receiver is lifted. Unless the audioconnection is initiated by the Hotline, the default zone will be Zone 1, andthe default operation will Listen Only.

Set your Data Communications Equipment (Terminal Adapter or Modem) forthe following response codes:

C.1 Enabling Response Codes

☞ Note: In order to display the connection speed, the OperatorSoftware expects to see a string of the form "CONNECT xxx",where xxx is the connect speed reported by the DCE. MostDCE devices will deliver such a string with an "X4" Result codesetting.

• No echo, AT commands• Auto-Answer must be enabled to receive alarm calls from the

Remote Video Unit• Modem controls Carrier Detect (CD)• Modem controls Clear To Send (CTS)• Modem controls Data Set Ready (DSR)• DTE controls Data Terminal Ready (DTR)• Disconnect, reset to Command Mode on DTR down• Software handshaking (Xon/Xoff) disabled• Request To Send/Clear To Send flow control selected

Modem Users: Select Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) errorcorrection, and disable any data compression.

ISDN Users: Select V.120, B-Channel rate 56K, unless it is known thatthe phone company provides 64K service.

C.2 The serial port control interface

This section is for advanced users who want to understand how calls areinitiated and received from the remote site.

The Rapid Eye system makes use of the following signals on the PCserial port:

C.2.1 Initiating a Call to a Remote Site

When offline, the Rapid Eye Operator’s software asserts the RTSline. It expects to see the CTS line back from the DCE.

1. Prior to making a connection, Rapid Eye will raise DTR. At thispoint, any configured dial commands are sent to the DCE.

2. After dialing, Rapid Eye will wait for the DSR and CD lines. The presence of both these signals defines the online state.

3. To disconnect, the Operator Site will lower the DTR line. TheDCE is expected to terminate the connection in response.

C.2.2 Answering a Call from a Remote Site

When offline, the Rapid Eye Operator’s software asserts the RTSline. The Operator Site expects to see the CTS line asserted.

1. Upon seeing either RI or CD, the Operator Site will raise theDTR line.

2. The Operator Site then waits for the DSR and CD lines. Thepresence of both these signals defines the online state.

3. To disconnect, the Operator Site will lower DTR. The DCE isexpected to terminate the connection in response.

1 More correctly called Received Line Signal Detect (RSLD).
