Falcon Hooimakers®
Die Falcon Hooimaker® is die gewildste hooisny-implement in die land. Hierdie wentelsnyer is vinnig, doeltreffend en moeitevry. Die verskillende modelle se snywydtes wissel van 1,2 m tot 3,5 m. Die spesiaal-ontwerpte hoë-vryhoogte-bakwerk, deflektor en langas-ratkas skep ruimte onder die dek om die vrye vloei van materiaal te verseker en dubbelsny te verhoed, terwyl die tonnel en vingers ‘n netjiese windry vorm wat gou uitdroog. Falcon Haymakers®
The Falcon Haymaker® is the most popular hay-cutting implement in the country. This rotary cutter is quick, efficient and trouble-free. The different models have cutting widths ranging from 1,2 m to 3,5 m. The specially designed high-clearance bodywork, deflector and extended-shaft gearbox create space under the deck to allow for a free flow of material and prevent double chopping, while the tunnel and fingers create a well-formed, quick-drying windrow. This is the ideal implement for quality haymaking. The use of the extended-shaft version of the gearbox in the Falcon Haymaker® has shown time and again that when an implement is used in jobs such as cutting hay, day in and day out, this design is the only way to go.
The small Haymaker® is a multi-purpose rotary cutter for smaller tractors (35 kW to 50 kW). This implement can successfully cut hay and also tackle other cutting jobs around the farm. The implement has a cutting width of 1,2 m and an adjustable cutting height from 40 mm to 140 mm to give the required finish. It has been successfully tested in various hay crops, including lucerne.
The intermediate range of Haymakers® is ideal for tractors rated between 48 kW and 80 kW. The various models have cutting widths of 1,5m, 1,8 m and 2,0 m respectively, with an adjust-able cutting height from 40 mm to 155 mm to give the required finish. This range has by far the largest share of the haymaking market. There are two versions of the implements with 1,5 m and 1,8 m cutting widths: the normal V (Veld Cutter) and the EV (Extended Veld Cutter). The main difference between them is that the deck of the EV is ±300 mm wider on the left-hand side than the V equivalent. This design allows for a larger space for the cuttings to move out of the blade path into a windrow. This configuration further reduces the possibility of double chopping and creates a bigger and wider windrow, which assists the baling process. In the case of lucerne and teff (softer grass) we recommend the EV, which is fitted with specially designed high-lift blades (H1460) that create a vacuum which will lift the material and also direct it into a windrow. This will result in a cleaner and more effective cut.
The large Haymaker® is a twin rotor implement with a cutting width of 3,5 m, and adjustable cutting height from 40 mm to 240 mm to give the required finish. This means that one tractor and Haymaker® can cut the same volume of hay in a day as was previously possible only by us-ing two tractor/Haymaker® units. This results in significant savings in the cost of fuel and labour. It is available in both a mounted and a trailed version. The mounted F80/350V Haymaker® is designed for cutting undulating areas and requires a larger size tractor rated over 75kW, so that the implement can be lifted off the ground for moving around. The F80/350VT Trailed Haymak-er® is attached to the tractor with a drawbar system and trailing wheels, eliminating the need for it to be lifted completely off the ground. It is the ideal implement for cutting flat areas (e.g. on airfields between the runways and along the fences) and can be used with smaller tractors (55 kW to 60 kW).

1. VUL DIE RATKAS MET OLIE TOT DIE KORREKTE VLAK Vul die ratkas tot die korrekte vlak met hoëgehalte-ratkasolie. Ons beveel Fuchs Renep 1000 aan, maar EP90 kan vir byvulling gebruik word. Die Falcon F80-reeks ratkas het ’n peilstokkie en moet tot by die merkie daarop gevul word. Verseker dat die F80-ratkas se asemgaatjie skoon gehou word om blokkasies te voorkom. Dié gaatjie is bo in die peilstokkie geleë.
Die F40-reeks gegote-yster-ratkas aan die klein Hooimaker® het ’n vulprop en ’n vlakprop. Maak albei proppe oop en vul totdat die olie by die vlakprop uitloop. MOET NIE oorvul nie, want dit kan oorverhitting en skade aan seëls veroorsaak.
VERSEKER DAT DIE KRAGAFTAKKERAS KORREK IS VIR U TREKKER Die kragaftakkeras sal dalk tot die regte lengte gesny moet word om u trekker/Falcon-kombinasie te pas. Indien die as te kort gesny word, en die oorvleueling te klein is, kan die as begin vibreer, breek of oopskeur. Dit kan lei tot moontlike skade van die implement en trekker en die drywer beseer. Indien die as te lank is kan dit lei tot ernstige skade aan u trekker, die Hooimaker® of die kragaftakkeras wanneer die implement gelig of laat sak word. Hoe om die regte as-lengte te bereken en die as te sny word duidelik in die kragaftakkeras-handleiding beskryf. Verwys dus asseblief na daardie handleiding (veral bladsye 39 en 97–100) voordat u die as sny. Voordat u, u trekker/Falcon-kombinasie gebruik, verseker dat die trekker se hidrouliese 3-punt-koppelbeheer-hefboom op die regte hoogte ingestel is, sodat die Falcon-implement nie te hoog opgelig word nie, aangesien dit die kragaftakkeras sal beskadig. Verseker dat die kragaftakker-omhulsel te alle tye in ‘n goeie toestand is.
GHRIES ALBEI KRUISKOPPELINGS OP DIE KRAGAFTAKKERAS Geen kragaftakkeras kan sonder ghries werk nie! Verseker dat die ghries uit al vier koppies van die kruis stoot, elke keer wanneer dit geghries word. Ghries ook die twee glybuise.
Please read the following installation, safety and routine maintenance instructions very carefully. Should you be in any doubt as to the correct operating or maintenance procedure, please contact your dealer, or us, and we will gladly assist you.
Installation and SafetyIt is essential that you adhere to the steps listed below. To ignore them will shorten the life of your Falcon implement and result in unnecessary expense.
1. FILL THE GEARBOX WITH OIL TO THE CORRECT LEVEL Fill the gearbox to the correct level with good-quality gearbox oil. We recommend Fuchs Renep 1000, but EP90 can be used for topping up. The Falcon F80 series gearboxes are fitted with a dipstick and should be filled to the mark on the dipstick. Ensure that the breather hole on the F80 gearbox is kept clean to avoid blockages. The breather hole is located on top of the dipstick.
The F40 series cast-iron gearbox used on the small Haymaker® has a filler plug and a level plug. Open both plugs and fill until the oil runs out of the level plug. DO NOT overfill, as this can cause overheating and damage to seals.
CHECK THAT THE PTO SHAFT IS CORRECTLY SUITED TO YOUR TRACTOR The PTO shaft may have to be cut to the correct length to suit your tractor/Falcon combination. If the shaft is cut too short and there is too little overlap the shaft may vibrate, break or tear open, resulting in possible damage to the implement and tractor and injury to the operator. If the shaft is too long, it can result in serious damage to your tractor, the Haymaker®, or the PTO shaft when the implement is either raised or lowered. The process of cutting the PTO and the calculation to establish the correct length are clearly described in the PTO manual. So please refer to this handbook before cutting the PTO shaft, especially pages 39 and 97-100.
Before using your tractor/Falcon combination ensure that the tractor hydraulic 3 point linkage control lever is set to the correct height setting in order not to pick up the Falcon implement too high as this will result in damage to the PTO shaft. Ensure that the PTO guard is in good order at all times.
GREASE BOTH UNIVERSAL CROSSES OF THE PTO SHAFTThe PTO shaft can not operate without grease! It is essential that the two crosses of the shaft are fully greased initially and kept greased thereafter. Ensure that the grease pushes out of all four cups, of each cross, every time it is greased. Also grease the two sliding tubes.

STEL DIE GLYKOPPELAAR TOT DIE KORREKTE WRINGKRAGAlle Falcon Hooimakers® is met ‘n glykoppelaar toegerus. Dit is tot die korrekte wringkrag gestel, sodat dit onder oormatige ladings kan gly en jou implement teen permanente meganiese skade kan beskerm.
Indien dit vir lang periodes oorlaai word, sal die glykoppelaar gly en oortollige hitte weens wrywing genereer. Tekens van oormatige gly is rook, brandreuke of poeierreste in die omgewing van die glykoppelaar, of verkleuring van die glykoppelaareenheid. Onder normale werkstoestande moet die temperatuur van die glykoppelaareenheid dus nie warmer wees as die temperatuur van die implement se ratkas nie.
Die glykoppelaar sal dalk in geval van die volgende opgeknap moet word:• die wrywingplate is geslyt of uitgebrand vanweë langdurige oorlading• ghries, olie of diesel het die glykoppelaarmeganisme gekontamineer• die implement het lank gestaan, wat die waarskynlikheid van roes in die
glykoppelaarmeganisme kan verhoog.
Wanneer die glykoppelaar opgeknap word, verseker dat slegs oorspronklike onderdele gebruik word soos op bladsy 35 van hierdie handleiding uiteengesit. Gebruik altyd die veer-instellings wat in die tabel hier onder aangedui word om akkurate verstelling te verseker. Draai elke keermoer agtereenvolgens met ‘n halfdraai totdat die betrokke instelling bereik is.
Alle Falcon Hooimakers® is ontwerp om teen 540 opm te loop. Die Hooimaker® moet hoër gelig word as die materiaal wat gesny gaan word, en dan moet die kragaftakker gekoppel word. Sodra dit gekoppel is, moet die opm tot 540 verhoog word voor werking begin en dan tydens werking daar gehou word. Versuim om dit te doen sal die wringkragvlakke op sowel die trekker as die Hooimaker® verhoog, wat tot ‘n korter glykoppelaarlewe sal lei.

ADJUST THE SLIP-CLUTCH TO THE CORRECT TORQUEAll Falcon Haymakers® are fitted with a slip-clutch. The clutch is required to slip under excessive load at a specific pre-set torque, in order to prevent permanent mechanical damage to the implement.
If overloaded for sustained periods, the slip-clutch will slip and generate excess heat through friction. Excessive slipping may be detected through smoke, burning odours or powder residues in the vicinity of the slip-clutch, or discoloration of the slip-clutch assembly. So, under normal operating conditions the slip-clutch assembly temperature should not exceed that of the temperature of the implement’s gearbox.
The slip-clutch may need to be overhauled in the event of the following:• the friction plates are worn or burned out due to sustained overloading,• the slip-clutch mechanism has become contaminated by grease, oil or diesel, or• the implement has stood for an extended period, increasing the likelihood of corrosion in the
slip-clutch mechanism.
When overhauling the slip-clutch, be sure to use only original parts as listed on page 35 of this manual. Apply the spring pre-load settings indicated in the table below, to ensure accurate adjustment. Tighten each retaining nut successively by one half-turn, until the relevantsetting is achieved.
All Falcon Haymakers® are designed to run at 540 rpm. The Haymaker® should be raised above the material that is to be cut and then the tractor PTO is to be engaged. Once engaged, the rpm should be increased to 540 rpm and then maintained at that level while cutting. Failing to do this will increase the torque levels on both the tractor and the Haymaker®, resulting in a shorter slip clutch life
The exception to this rule is when cutting material with high leaf content, such as lucerne. The leaves are fragile and operating your Haymaker® at 540 rpm might result in material damage and leaf loss. To achieve the optimum cut in these materials a lowering of the operating rpm and adjustment of ground speed might be necessary: a higher ground speed if cuttings are too fine,

as snysels te fyn is, en ‘n laer grondsnelheid as die implement sukkel om al die materiaal te sny. Hierdie aksies kan lei tot verskillende wringkraglaste op die kragaftakker en daarom mag dit nodig wees om die glykoppelaar te verstel.
STEL DIE TREKKER SE BO-ARM TOT DIE REGTE LENGTEDit is belangrik om u trekker se bo-arm so te stel dat die implement se topmas in die regopposisie is wanneer die implement op gelyk grond rus. Dit sal die implement toelaat om op die volle lengte van sy glystukke te loop en ’n eenvormige snyhoogte oor ongelyke oppervlakte te verseker.
Dit sal ook help verseker dat die kragaftakkeras nie aan die voorste deel van die implement raak wanneer dit opgelig is nie. Sou die kragaftakkeras egter steeds aan die implement raak, beperk die hoogte deur die stop op die hidrouliesebeheer-vlak te stel.
GAAN ALLE BOUTE NA EN DRAAI HULLE VASVerseker dat alle boute heeltemal vas is voor gebruik en dan weer ná die eerste paar uur se gebruik. Dit is baie belangrik om die boute aan die snymeganisme dikwels na te gaan en vas te draai.
MAAK SEKER DAT DIE STOFSKERM OOR DIE LEWERINGSAS IN DIE REGTE POSISIE IS (aan die F50, F80 en F80EV)Dit is noodsaaklik dat die skerm onder u ratkas in die regte posisie moet wees. Dit is om te verseker dat gras, tou of draad nie om die onderkant van die leweringsas draai en die onderste olieseëls van die ratkas beskadig nie. Skade aan hierdie seëls kan al die ratkasolie laat uitloop. Die twee boute wat hierdie stofskerm onder u Falcon Hooimaker® vashou, moet nagegaan en, indien nodig, vasgedraai word. Die stofskerm moet so laag as moontlik geposisioneer wees en die flens van die ratkas se leweringsas heeltemal bedek.

and a lower ground speed if the implement struggles to cut all the material. These actions may result in different torque loads on the PTO and therefore it may be necessary to adjust the slip-clutch.
ADJUST THE TRACTOR TOP-LINK TO THE CORRECT LENGTHIt is important to adjust your tractor top link so that the implements topmast is in the vertical position when the implement is resting on level ground. This will allow the implement to run on its full skid runner length, ensuring a uniform cutting height when running over uneven ground.
This will also help to ensure that the PTO shaft does not come into contact with the front of the implement when in the raised position. However, should the PTO shaft still touch the implement, limit the height by setting the stop on the hydraulic control level.
CHECK AND TIGHTEN ALL BOLTSCheck that all bolts are fully tightened before use and then again after the first few hours of use. It is very important that the bolts on the cutting gear are checked and tightened frequently.
CHECK THAT THE DUST COVER OVER THE OUTPUT SHAFTS IS IN THE CORRECT POSITION (Fitted on the F50, F80 and F80EV)It is essential that the cover under your gearbox is in the correct position. This is to ensure that grass, twine or wire does not wrap around the base of the output shaft and damage the lower oil seals of the gearbox. Damage to these seals could drain the gearbox oil. The two bolts securing this dust cover under your Falcon Haymaker® should be checked and tightened if necessary. The dust cover should be positioned as low as possible and should cover the flange of the gearbox’s output shaft completely.
TAKE NOTE OF THE SAFETY RULES Please instruct your driver to adhere to the following rules: • Do not get off the tractor while it is running and ensure that the tractor is turned off before
making adjustments.• When working under the implement, changing the blades or tightening the bolts, the frame
should be lowered on to a stand or a prop on the ground.• Be aware of any obstruction such as stumps, stones, bottles, tins, etc. Remove these from
the field before commencing work or at least avoid them. • Discourage spectators and never carry passengers. Remember, it is possible that small
stones can fly out at high speed. These projectiles can cause serious injury.• Do not allow anyone to walk near the Haymaker® while it is in operation.• Operate the tractor in such a way that you establish and maintain the optimum PTO speed
of approximately 540 rpm. Too low a speed will overload the drive shaft system. Too high a PTO speed will make the operation dangerous.

• Ghries die kragaftakkeras.• Verseker dat die twee boute wat die glykoppelaar vashou, vas is, omdat ‘n los glykoppelaar
uiteindelik sal veroorsaak dat die inset-as afbreek. • Let op na die slytasie op die lemme. Maak hulle gereeld met ’n hoekslyper skerp of vervang
hulle as hulle te ver afgeslyt het. Ons beveel aan dat u minstens twee stelle lemme, boute, moere en busse as onderdele vir u Falcon Hooimaker® byderhand hou. Verseker dat die snymeganisme gebalanseer is, dws dat lemme en lembalke soortgelyke slytpatrone het en dieselfde weeg. Om veiligheid te verseker word aanbeveel dat nuwe boute en moere gebruik word elke keer wanneer lemme vervang word. LET WEL: Vibrasie is die hoofoorsaak van strukturele onklaarraking en oormatige koeëllaerslytasie by Hooimakers®.
GEREELDE KONTROLES • Kontroleer dat die glykoppelaar op die korrekte spanning gestel is en verstel indien nodig.• Kontroleer slytasie op die veerstaalglystukke en vervang indien nodig.• Enige roesmerkies wat dalk verskyn het, moet skoongemaak en opgeknap word. Onthou, u het die beste implement op die mark gekoop. Met korrekte gebruik en behoorlike instandhouding sal dit u jare se uitstekende diens gee.
• Do not allow anyone to put their hands or feet under the Haymaker® while the tractor is running.
• Do not remove the protective covers around the PTO shaft or flaps provided on the implement.
• Do not subject the topmast chains to excessive strain by transporting the implement at high speeds over rough ground. Inspect the chains and shackles regularly and replace if worn. Use only chains and shackles of the correct specification.
Routine MaintenanceDAILY CHECKS• Check that all bolts, nuts and screws are tight. Checking the bolts and nuts on the cutting
gear is particularly important.• Check the level of the gearbox oil and top up to the correct level. Check for gearbox oil
leaks. It should be noted that no guarantee claim can be submitted on a gearbox that has run dry. It is thus essential that the gearbox is kept correctly filled with oil.
• Grease the PTO shaft.• Check that the two bolts holding the slip-clutch are tight, as a loose slip-clutch will eventually
cause the input shaft to break off.• Check the wear on the blades. Sharpen them routinely with an angle grinder or replace
when they are worn down too far. We recommend that you keep at least two sets of blades, bolts, nuts and bushes as spares for your Falcon Haymaker®. Make sure that the cutting gear is balanced, ie that blades and blade beams have similar wear patterns and weigh the same. In order to ensure safety, it is recommended that new bolts and nuts are fitted each time when changing the blades.
NOTE: Vibration is the main cause of structural failure and excessive bearing wear on Haymakers®.
REGULAR CHECKS• Check that the slip-clutch is set to the correct tension and adjust accordingly if not.• Check the wear and tear on the spring steel skid runners, and replace if necessary.• Clean down and touch up any rust spots that may have appeared Remember, you have purchased the best implement on the market. With the correct operation and proper maintenance, it will give you years of excellent service.

Falcon Warranty PolicyTo safeguard you against material and/or manufacturing defects, or even incorrect assembly, every Falcon implement is carefully inspected before it leaves the Falcon factory.
In the unlikely event that such defects should occur, it may reassure you to know that Falcon will, after inspection by Falcon or its authorised dealer, correct, repair or replace free of charge any part of the implement that was found to be defective in material or workmanship.
The warranty is conditional on the purchaser taking the following four steps:
(1) The Falcon Operator’s Manual must be carefully read and understood, with special consideration to the instructions regarding Installation and Routine Maintenance, prior to using the implement.
(2) The Safety Rules must be studied and strictly adhered to.
(3) The implements shall only be used for their specified purposes.
(4) Only Original Equipment Manufactured parts/components and the specified lubricants must be used.
For the sake of clarity it should be noted that the warranty does not include or cover the following:
A) Falcon does not cover transport costs.
B) Falcon does not guarantee that the implement cannot be broken or damaged due to misuse or incorrect application.
C) Falcon does not cover consequential damage such as gearbox failure caused by a shortage of oil or lubrication.
D) Falcon does not cover any breakage due to the fact that a slip-clutch has not been fitted or has been incorrectly set. (A slip-clutch is standard equipment on all F50 and F80 series implements except on the F50/120 Blowermower™ and the F50/120 Grassmulcher™)
E) The warranty should not be construed as a free service period. Seals and bearings that require replacement from time to time are for the owner’s account.

A) Falcon dek nie vervoerkoste as deel van die waarborg nie.
B) Falcon waarborg nie dat die implement nie gebreek of beskadig kan word vanweë misbruik of verkeerde aanwending nie.
C) Falcon dek nie voortvloeiende skade soos ratkasonklaarraking weens ’n olie- of smeerolietekort nie.
D) Falcon dek geen brekasie as gevolg van die feit dat ’n glykoppelaar nie aangebring is nie, of verkeerd ingestel is. (’n Glykoppelaar is standaard op alle F50- en F80-reeks-implemente behalwe die F50/120 Blowermower™ en die F50/120 Grassmulcher™.)
E) Die waarborg moet nie as ’n gratis dienstydperk beskou word nie. Waar seëls en koeëllaers periodiek vervang moet word, geskied dit op die eienaar se onkoste.
Afwysing Hierdie waarborg vervang uitdruklik alle ander voorwaardes en waarborge, hetsy uitdruklik vermeld of geïmpliseer, en alle ander verpligtinge of aanspreeklikhede aan die kant van Falcon ten opsigte van gebrekkige implemente.
