TRANSCRIPT

Even as a journalist, I have made it my personal crusade to

raise awareness on disaster resilience.

The Climate Change Act of 2009 (RA 9729)

provides the strategic framework for a

comprehensive program on climate change.

The Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act (RA 10121)

puts in place a disaster risk reduction and management approach that is

comprehensive, integrated, and pro-active in lessening the socio-economic

and environmental impacts of disasters, including climate change.

“The Philippine Climate Change Act and the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act are among the world’s ‘best laws’ on disaster resilience.”

- Margareta Wahlström UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative

1,901 people either dead or missing

The single deadliest disaster in the world for 2012.

Only 0.4%, or $ 13.6 billion of $ 3 trillion, of the total amount spent on international aid has been

allocated for disaster risk reduction programs.

Disaster risk reduction should be top of mind.

Let us give our wholehearted commitment to a safer world, a more resilient human society for many generations to come.

Thank you Thank you
