OPENING SEQUENCE ANALYSIS 3JOE TURNER

THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO HTTP://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=SY4F_83T_RW

• This opening sequence is all CGI also as this makes a very effective opening sequence. Throughout this opening sequence there is a low key light with mostly a black inky colour, this is why it is called the girl with the dragon tattoo as the darkness represents the ink which builds a bigger picture in the audience heads. This has a magical feel to it because the ink is making real things like the main characters and showing there faces so when the audience sees them in the film they will recognise them. As the whole opening sequence is dark is seems mysterious as we aren't sure what is quite happening so the audience feel trapped as they are in the middle of something they aren't quite sure of due to the low key light. The only colour there is in the opening sequence is the font which come up in bright white writing which is more of a gothic font, this is to show that they are the characters in the film and the producers. This has representations of darkness and danger. Not only this, we also can hear the soundtrack over the top of the sequence, this is heavy music to show this has a different genre which the audience isn't quite sure of. We see the title of the film right at the start as this is where it stands out the most and to make sure that the audience are watching. It is then surrounded by a blackness which is done by using CGI and fades away which represents the film looking like a tattoo. We also see different images of what we aren't sure what they are which builds confusion as the audience are not sure what is happening. We see the dragon tattoo multiple times to show that this is the main image in the opening.

I, ROBOT(2004)HTTP://WWW.ARTOFTHETITLE.COM/TITLE/I-ROBOT/

• There is a single shot in this opening sequence which is when we see the girl in the car which looks like she is drowning. There is an ambience sound of the water which makes us feel like we are underwater with her with that restriction to hear anything. Also when the title comes up it is synchronous with the CGI when the title lights up, even though it feels like we are underwater that is the loudest thing we hear which makes the audience aware of what is happening. Also the red light behind the title is very bright and signifies the robots as it looks like they will have red in their chests to separate them from others. The title then fades away with the water sound to make sure that the audience still thinks that they are. Writing comes up saying the Laws about the robots which is also CGI as it appears in the water. This makes the audience read what is happening so they can understand the opening sequence and the rest of the film in more detail. There is a handheld camera which is looking at the girl in the car to show her vulnerability and to make us feel like we are there stuck in the car feeling trapped. The soundtrack then builds up increasing the tension about these people until the main character who it feels like we are is being saved with a sigh of relief then the music stops with him waking up. The audience then realises that this was a dream as the diegetic sound of his alarm and the close up of his head shows this.

THE INCREDIBLE HULK(2008)HTTP://WWW.ARTOFTHETITLE.COM/TITLE/THE-INCREDIBLE-HULK/

• The opening sequence starts off with he MARVEL productions in a different soundtrack, this sounds seems very low key and unlike a superhero. This is because we see the Hulk actually being changed. We see the DNA of the Hulk using CGI which may confuse the audience as they are not sure what it is or what is happening yet. The title comes up very quick with the font of all the main characters and the producers. The soundtrack becomes even lower when the title comes up so if you weren't looking at the film it would catch your attention to keep watching. The title is also very big and bold for when “Hulk” comes up as we know him as being massive and very strong. We then get a long shot of the man in the chair to make him look small and nervous in the chair as he is not sure what is going to happen the same as the audience. We then get an eye line match of the woman and the man which we can tell they care about each other as they are both looking extremely nervous which makes the audience worried. The word “danger” stands out as it zooms in on the word with a bright red background knowing something has gone wrong. We then see the Hulk when has changed which is used by CGI as he is not really there. We then get a POV shot as we are the same height as the Hulk and can everything which he is looking at. We can then see the Hulk looking over the woman with a high angle shot to make her look even smaller than the Hulk so we know she is the damsel in distress from the opening sequence. We then see the main man who is looking for the Hulk as he is dressed in General uniform and we know he has high standards as he stands out to the rest of the army people. The font of the producers is in dark green the same as the Hulk to build representations of him and to insinuate it is all about him.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN PART 2HTTP://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=1-AW2YZWAEU#T=44

• The opening scene starts off with the production company but has been edited, a red sky in the background is used using CGI, this red stands out to the rest of the picture and has been edited specifically for this film. The font changes from red to white as the background changes. The font is very formal and all in capitals so it stands out to the rest of the picture. It has the main characters come up first so people know who is in it and so they know who is the main character. The title then comes up with a red moon in the background to make the location look even better. The red is mostly used in this opening sequence as it stands out and connotes blood as the film is about vampires it suits the genre of the film and what it is about. The soundtrack is very mellow and calm but gets deeper as soon as the title comes up to make it stand out to the rest of the opening sequence. There is different establishing shots which make the location stand out even more as it shows that the place is beautiful and unique. This also shows the whole place in a few angles. We can also tell that there is a separation between each place because as one name comes up the background either turns white or red depending on whose side they are on which shows separation and the genre of the film as we know there will be action against each other. At the end of this opening sequence CGI is used and an extreme close up of an eye which turns red, this then zooms out so we realise who it is and the soundtrack stops as the audience realise that she is the main character.

SKYFALLHTTP://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=_4GDHSVKTCS

• The start of this opening sequence is James Bond falling into the water and is pulled down by a bigger hand which pulls him below the sea. This is using CGI as the hand and him in the water is not real. The Skyfall title then appears when he is falling down under the sand which shows that he is falling from the sky which links with the title. There is a long shot of James bond falling down deeper into the water which he then gets so far away we cannot see him anymore, this shows that he is injured and hidden away. This builds confusion for the audience as James bond is normally the skilful one and the winner of all the fights so the audience are not sure what is happening. There is also more CGI of the weapons like knives and guns falling into the sea which shows all the people that James Bond has killed to make him seem more victorious and courageous. The whole place then turns red as this connotes blood and violence which suits the genre of the film as we know James Bond will kill people in the film. It then shows his eyes which are bright blue which it then zooms into, this shows that he is alive and will fight back which builds relief for the audience knowing he is still alive. The white font of the characters and producers stands out to the black background so the audience can see it clearly and know who is in the film.
