WE PROCLAIM

Scripture Reading with Song Luke 5:1-11 (congregation is seated) Lord, you have come to the lakeshore

Looking neither for wealthy nor wise ones; You only ask me to follow humbly.

Refrain: O Lord, with your eyes you have searched me, and while smiling have spoken my name; Now my boat’s left on the shoreline behind me; by your side I will seek other seas.

You know so well my possessions; My boat carries no gold and no weapons; You will fi nd there my nets and labor. Refrain

You need my hands, full of caring Through my labors to give others rest, And constant love that keeps on loving. Refrain

You, who have fi shed other oceans, Ever longed for by souls who are waiting, My loving friend, as thus you call me. Refrain Words: Cesareo Gabarian; trans. by Gertrude C. Suppe, George Lockwood, and Raquel Gutiérrez-Achon. Music: Cesareo; harm. by Skinner Chávez-Melo. © 1989 The United Methodist Publishing House. May your roots go deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love;and may you feel and understand how long, how wide,

how deep, and how high that love is.Be fi lled with the fullness of God,

unto whom be glory through all ages, world without end. Amen.

Reading from Trees: Refl ections and Poems by Herman Hesse

Naming of the Saints sung to HYMN OF PROMISE

In the bulb there is a fl ower; in the seed, an apple tree;In cocoon, a hidden promise: butterfl ies will soon be free!

In the cold and snow of winter there’s a spring that waits to be,Unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.

Remembering the saints

Cast your nets in deeper waters, root yourself in what is true,Turn your loss to richer soil, nourishing the bold and new.

Jesus asked us, “what is greatness? Is it height or depth or length?”Then he showed us humble service, breaking bound’ries, sharing strength.

Remembering the saints

Tiny seeds become great forests, patient roots can break through stone,Growing past our expectation, living faith in the unknown.

Rooted deep in living water, strong in diff ’rence, friend to friend,Growing out beyond our borders, hand in hand to journey’s end.

Remembering the saints

In our end is our beginning; in our time, infi nity; In our doubt there is believing; in our life, eternity. In our death, a resurrection; at the last, a victory, Unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see. Verses 1, 4: Natalie Sleeth, © 1986 Hope Publishing Company, Carol Stream, IL 60188. Hymn Give Thanks for Life, by Shirley Erena Murray tune: Sine Nomine (“For All the Saints”)

Give thanks for life, the measure of our days, mortal, we pass through beauty that decays,

yet sing to God our hope, our love, our praise,Alleluia!

Give thanks for those who made their life a lightcaught from the Christ-fl ame, bursting through the night,

who touched the truth, who burned for what is right,Alleluia!

And for our own, our living and our dead, thanks for the love by which our life is fed,

a love not changed by time or death or dread,Alleluia!

Give thanks for hope, that like the wheat, the grainthat lies in darkness does its life retainin resurrection to grow green again,

Alleluia!
