PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

“The greatness of a community is most

accurately measured by the compassionate

actions of its members.” -Coretta Scott King-

I have had the pleasure of working as an educator in Beaumont for 29 years and it never ceases to amaze me how this

community comes together during difficult and trying times. Without fail, the people of Beaumont band together unconditionally to support their family, friends, neighbours, colleagues and acquaintances in times of need. Most recently, the community’s response to the adversity facing the Shtuka family has once again shown the genuine caring and compassionate nature of this town. From the Candlelight Vigil coordinated beautifully by friends of the family to the Ribbons for Ryan campaign initiated by thoughtful students, the people of Beaumont have shown once again that their priorities ultimately rest with the relationships they have forged while living in this great community. I am certain that the Shtuka family greatly appreciates the support as we continue to wish for the very best for them.

March is a busy month, with lots going on here at school during the day and in the evenings. Basketball playoffs continue as the Sr. Teams are in Provincial Playdowns, the Grade 9 boys and girls are in their league playoffs, Sr. High Badminton gets underway next week and both Rugby and Soccer are right around the corner. In addition to athletics, the arts continue to thrive in our school with the Celebration of Arts being held at the Winspear on Friday, April 13th and Drama One Acts and the Band Trip happening in May. Other student initiatives are also happening with the SADD Spinathon, SAPP’s 30 Hour Famine and Art Beat all coming up soon. Talk about a community working together...it is incredible to see so many opportunities for students to be engaged with

the support of their teachers. These varied activities provide unique experiences for our students, but also serve to foster strong relationships and to ultimately create a safe and caring school community.

On Thursday, March 15, Parent Teacher Interviews will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. Now is the best time to meet with your child’s teacher as it is early enough in the semester to address any concerns that may be emerging but it is also a good time to celebrate your child’s successes as well.

On Wednesday, March 21, we will be holding our Open House from 6:30 - 8:00 pm for incoming Grade 9 and 10 students and their parents and we welcome all families new to our community that evening as well. The Open House will be an opportunity for students and parents to explore our great facility and to attend short information sessions of their choice on a variety of topics. Please tell your friends to attend!

I am confident that the strength of our school community will continue to serve us well and it will be an important asset to us next year when we will be operating in much closer quarters with a big increase in our school population. As 2018-19 will be the last year of the reconfiguration of schools, our school will see a one-year blip of very high numbers. This could result in some crowded spaces and potentially larger class groupings in order to maximize limited space. As such, it will be imperative that everyone be prepared to work together to make the experience a positive one. The good news is that this should only be for one year as 2019-20 should result in the final shifting of grades across town to allow for some breathing room in all schools. We have great students, staff and parents and given what I know of Beaumont’s ability to support one another, I am sure it will all work out.
