Ogier Gardens Introduces New Volunteer Opportunity Ogier gardens provides volunteer opportunity for community service-driven groups during the University
of North Florida’s Fest of All
(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.) Feb. 20, 2015—The University of North Florida’s Environmental
Center, Ogier Gardens and the Homecoming Fest of All has paired up to feature a competition called “Bin
Wars.” According to Osprey Productions, during UNF’s homecoming week on Wednesday, Feb. 25,
nearly 16 student organizations involving fraternities, sororities, sports teams and clubs are expected to
attend the event.
“I am committed to promoting public health by teaching the community how to grow their own
food and buy locally grown produce,” said Kevin Anderson, Ogier Gardens coordinator. “By facilitating
this event, we are raising awareness of Ogier Gardens among these student communities as well as getting
them involved in our mission.”
According to The Fest of All 2015 packet the competition will begin at 5 p.m. on the UNF Green.
The students in the organizations listed above will help design and paint an Ogier Gardens recycling bin
to be used to collect recyclable goods throughout homecoming week. The bins will be also used at “OZ,”
UNF’s Music Festival.
The top three winners of Bin Wars will receive points to help their overall effort to win
homecoming week. First place winners will receive 100 points, second place winners will receive 45
points and third place winners will receive 20 points. Winners who accumulate the most points at the end
of the week receive a Fest of All trophy and bragging rights for winning homecoming week.
About Ogier Gardens:
Ogier Gardens began as a student initiative program to promote wellness and health among the
university’s students. It has grown into a one-acre piece of land on UNF’s campus and has been steadily
growing since 2009. Numerous student staff members and volunteers take time each week to host
programs and help raise awareness of the need of organic gardening. Fruits and vegetables produced at
the gardens are sold to UNF’s Osprey Café and students at UNF Market Days.
