The glue came off and there were beautiful white lines the color of the fabric. We made the peace flags based on the Tibetan prayer flags to honor the Inter- national Day of Peace on September 21 st . We had to move our Meeting for Worship because of the yellow jacket’s nest. SO PLEASE DON’T GO NEAR THE NEST. Let’s live peacefully with the yellow jackets! There was a yellow jacket wasp nest near our peace flags so we moved our Meet- ing for Worship near the pool. 4th graders stand near the peace flags, but not too close to the wasp’s nest . Mrs. Dawson played “Go Now in Peace” at the end of the Meeting for Worship.

Why did the yellow jacket wasps have to make their nest right in the spot where we were going to have our peace day Meeting for Worship? Maybe the yel-low jackets were trying to show us that they were peaceful by making their nest in a log right under our peace flags!

Our peace flags have very color-ful and peaceful designs. “I asked the kids to think of ideas or designs that would make a really lovely, peaceful statement,” said Ms. Parris, our 3rd and 4th grade art teacher. “No matter what colors or designs you put on the flags they look so good hang-ing together as a community.”

Welcome to Another Great School Year

On Friday, September 10th, the Lower School met outside near the Friendship Bell to ring in the new school year. Mr. Ludwig asked Emma to read the inscription and Ben to ring the bell. Then everyone in 1st through 4th grade went to the Meeting Room to meet our new students and teachers. Here is a photo of some of the new 1st graders and our new music teacher, Mrs. Caldwell.

3A and 3C Meet a Real Pilot: The “Other” Mr. Denton

You’ve all heard of Ben and Jerry; and you’ve heard of Tom and Jerry. Now meet Don and Jerry! 3A and 3C were lucky enough to meet Mr. Denton’s brother Jerry, a real pilot. Jerry Denton, who lives in Virginia, flew his single engine Cessna airplane to see his little brother Donny last week. Since 3A and 3C are both studying flight, he came to our school and talked to them about all the different kinds of planes that he has flown, including helicopters. The pictures of the airplane are from our Mr. Denton’s personal collection.
