Project Votan has now reached the first stage of implementation, which includes the upgrade to Sage version 7.1. This phase represents a time of high activity where the end users start to see, at first hand, what Votan will deliver to them.

We are please to announce the recruitment of a Global Super User team. Chosen for their knowledge, experience and capability, the team will be fully trained by Sage and will lead the rollout of Sage to all users. This approach will help to achieve the rollout schedule and create a strong team to act as a focal point for future development and growth.

Over the coming weeks the Global Super User team, along with the Programme Team, will be at local sites preparing for rollout. This will give people a chance to meet them and understand a little more about the changes that are to come.

To read more and view a high level project plan detailing all ‘go live’ dates please visit the Votan site on the NOV ASEP Elmar homepage http://novwire/

NOV downhole tools division has now completed the transfer of all of the NOV slickline wireline tools product line to NOV ASEP Elmar division.

Prior to the acquisition by NOV, ASEP already had a slickline wireline tools productline and the amalgamation of these two complementary product lines into the productoffering portfolio of NOV ASEP Elmar will significantly strengthen our position in this market sector. This move will consolidate overlapping products, enhance our ability to service our client’s needs and streamline new product develop-ment by leveraging the established strengths of the respective product lines.

When our clients issue requests for quotations for well intervention equipment, slickline wireline tools are

frequently bundled with other NOV ASEP Elmar products such as winches, masts and surface pressure control equipment. We are now ideally placed to offer our clients the full spectrum of well intervention equipment requirements.

Engineering, product line development and production of the slickline wireline tools productline will be centred at the NOV ASEP Elmar manufacturing and service facility in Singapore.

NOV ASEP Elmar now has the most compre-hensive high quality slickline wireline tools product offering available anywhere and the following further enhancements will be implemented over the coming months:

The successful integration and further development and growth of this product line will come from careful evaluation of the needs of our clients and meticulous attention to quality and customer service.

Optimise manufacturing cost effectivenessand quality to permit us to offer the highest quality products at competitive prices.

Further enhancement of the product line by addition of specialist additional tools which our clients wish to see included in this range. This will include more multi function wireline tools to allow our clients to carry out a wider range of downhole operations from a smaller and more cost effective inventory of wireline tools.

Identify and eliminate product duplications by focussing on the best tools for today’s market.

As 2009 comes to a close we can all look back on a busy and challenging year. The acquisition of ASEP by NOV in 2009 and its subsequent integration to form NOV ASEP Elmar has demanded additional effort from all involved, but the benefit of this integration has been an ability to offer a complete range of market leading products with a subsequent increase in quotation success.

2010 will see the roll out and upgrade of the ERP, PDM and CRM systems and the integration of the NOV ASEP Elmar Wireline Tools product line. With all of

these changes, it is imperative that we position ourselves by way of diligence and training to maximise market potential as the industry returns from recession.

It continues to be the aim of NOV ASEP Elmar to provide a service to our clients that is “second to none”. An important initiative for 2010 will be the establishing of a Global After-Sales Team, with implementation by as early as April.

I am sure that 2010 will be an exciting and challenging year. I would like to take this

opportunity to thank all employees of NOV ASEP Elmar for both their hard work and understanding during 2009. I would also like to thank our customers for their support and loyalty during what has been an eventful 12 months.

I remain confident that the continued focus on product innovation, quality and service will be the key to success and to the benefit of all. Let’s all move forward together.

ABERDEEN UPDATE BY BRIAN GARDEN, GENERAL MANAGER, NOV ASEP ELMAR UKy n ct

From 8th to 11th of September Aberdeen played host to Offshore Europe 09’, drawing in more than 49,000 attendees from across the globe. The prestigious event gave our teams in Aberdeen and Holland the chance to showcase our range of products, including the e-drive, at open days hosted at the old ASEP offices in Bridge of Don. This event has been hosted by the ASEP team for several years and has always been extremely well attended - this year proved no different and was hugely successful.

In order to improve the time required to supply certification documentation to our customers, NOV ASEP Elmar operate a Global Certification Service which can be accessed via www.elmar-certification.co.uk

The system, which was developed by a team including representatives from Engineering and Lesley Noble, Service Quality Co-ordinator, is a secure website designed to provide customers with access to their certification for equipment manufactured by NOV ASEP Elmar.

Certification details are uploaded onto the website before the goods arrive at their destination and the website informs customers when their equipment is due for a service - reminding them to contact us directly. Customer satisfaction is also monitored via the website, helping us to improve our service and keep ahead of our competitors.

Laura Downie, Fabrication Team Leader in the UK, has become one of our star fabricators. Laura recently appeared on Channel 4’s Scrapheap Challenge as part of Dick’s Diamonds. The team were challenged to machine and assemble a Mobile Mortar machine which fired tennis balls. In addition to her on-screen appearances, Laura has been working with the BBC helping the Top Gear team

turn an ice-cream van into a hovercraft for a future DVD. Laura is the only female workshop employee in the whole of NOV ASEP ElmarUK, and indeed the whole of NOV ASEP Elmar.

Business in Dubai is picking up and we look forward to entering 2010. One highlight of the past few months has been a contract win worth $2M from Saudi Aramco for the supply of WPCE equipment to its wireline

department. The equipment conforms to the new Saudi Aramco pressure policy and is the first major contract award from Aramco to NOV ASEP Elmar Middle East.

In other news, we have just completed a major service on a Schlumberger mast truck - another first in the Middle East - and will

hopefully be awarded our first order from Oil India before the end of the year.

I would like to congratulate Sreejesh Menon (pictured) who has recently been promoted into the sales department. Sreejesh is extremely committed to NOV ASEP Elmar and this promotion recognises Sreejesh’s hard work and dedication.

To round off 2009, we will find out in due course if we will be awarded further work for the ZADCO and ADMA contracts.

AMERICAS UPDATE BY TONY CLARK, GENERAL MANAGER, NOV ASEP ELMAR AMERICASS

FAR EAST UPDATE BY MURDO BAIN, GENERAL MANAGER, NOV ASEP ELMAR FAR EAST

The consolidation of the ASEP and NOV Elmarmanufacturing and servicing operations in Singapore into the ASEP facility at Loyang Way was completed on time by the scheduled date of 1 August and the Tuas facility has now been transferred to NOV Anson division.

The Loyang facility was acquired by ASEP in late 2008 with a view to aggressive expansion plans so adequate office and factory floor space was available for integration of the NOV Elmar operation. We took this opportunity to select the best machine tools from each facility and to carry out a comprehensive review of the factory floor layout at Loyang Way in order to optimise space and production flow efficiency in the new location. We have also completed and occupied an extension to the Loyang facility and have recently installed a new phosphating unit.

The new Singapore NOV ASEP Elmar team have been working together from the Loyang facility for three months and have integrated very well. In order to further stimulate the development of a single cohesive NOV ASEP Elmar Singapore team we have carried out more training over the last 3 months than we have done in the last 3 years.

One of the next steps will be the full integration of the Sage ERP system for all Singapore operations. This is currently scheduled for 1 February 2010 and is expected to represent a significant further enhancement to operating efficiency and will provide us with visibility and control of production costs.

We are currently in the process of moving the ASEP facility into our Elmar building in Houston, a step which is enabling the companyto progress forward as one united team. This integration is a positive progression for all of us, and one which we are delighted to report is being well received. The process is due to be completed by the end of November.

Our spooling operation in Mexico is now up and running and is already proving popular with existing clients. We can now offer our clients cable maintenance services which will help to maximise service with enhanced efficiency. This new function has proved successful with clients in our European operations, and is a further strand to the

business which we look to promote at an open event towards the end of the year to demonstrate its uses and benefits.

The addition of the wireline tools product range to our portfolio in the Western Hemisphere will improve our overall offering - helping to grow our business with existing customers as well as new ones.

As 2009 comes to a close, the internal and external aspects of the company seem to be standing in good stead for the coming year. With the two company entities merging into a fresh new business, and a plethora of new services, 2010 appears to be another successful year for us all.

We have established a licence agreement with Weatherford to produce QLS connectionswhich will improve our ability to grow our Singapore manufactured wireline tools business.

Over the coming months we will construct a state of the art high pressure test cell in order to further enhance our ability to test pressure control equipment to the highest industry standards of safety compliance and efficiency.

We are currently occupied with adopting the best elements of the legacy ASEP and NOV Elmar production quality management systems to provide us with a system which features the best of both while retaining the essential ISO and API accreditations.

Our primary focus now is on maximising sales and customer service excellence, productquality, and production cost management in order to deliver the full potential of bringing together these two world class brands.

MASTS

As a world leader in the design and manufacture of wireline equipment, NOV ASEP Elmar constantly aims to produce safer, more efficient technology. Here we focus on the development of new masts, in particular the Wireline Offshore Portable Mast (WOPM). For further information on our products contact Andrew Douglas on [email protected]

THE WOPMThe Wireline Offshore Portable Mast is designed to split into 3 parts with a maximum weight of 3,000lbs and has a working height from 25ft to 90ft with a maximum column load of 20,000lbs. It is CE marked and ATEX approved for use in Zone 1 hazardous area.

Being one of NOV ASEP Elmar’s most safety critical product lines, a team of 3 engineers dedicate around 2000 man hours to design a mast from scratch.

The starting questions during the mast design process would include the working height, the maximum line pull, winch capacities, vertical or inclined column and whether the mast is required for slickline or electric line duty. During the detailed layout phase the team would focus upon individual areas of the mast, using risk assessmentsand design reviews to arrive at a final design.

Detailed strength calculations of all load bearing components are completed and documented including a full structural analysis of the column. These calculations are often submitted to a 3rd party notifying body for review.

Once the bill of material is launched the productiondepartment plan the manufacture or purchase of all parts, following the quality requirements dictated by the design. The assembly team will then commence the build process under a Team Leader, liaising with engineering about any design fine tuning that is required along the way.

All masts are function tested and load tested to above their stated safe working load to verify the safety of the design and in many cases are completely stripped, inspected and reassembled after the load test.

When the mast is complete it is dispatched along with support documentation such as the Final Acceptance Test, Operations Manual plus CE and ATEX documentation, much of which is uploaded tothe QA Database by the QA team for client download.

It is this rigorous process that ensures our clients can operate our masts knowing that they have been properly designed with the most important factor in mind – safety.

TUBULARS UPDATE

S

ct line e ention

The success of the tubulars division can largely be attributed to the team spirit which exists across all three departments. Each team works together to help each other as required and workshop personnelare happy to move between the different departments as work dictates.

Unlike many other divisions within the company, Tubulars is self sufficient and handles customer contact, quotations andordering materials through to arranging shipping and closing the job off internally. This approach is required due to the special processes used and helps keep the focus on completing jobs on time.

As a team, we work very closely with our customers. This approach gives us a greater understanding of our customers needs and helps to build strong working relationships.

Tubulars has an excellent safety record within the departments – this is something we are particularly proud of considering the hazards involved with moving heavy

pipe and the various operating processes used. Both the Gun shop and Screen Shop have won safety awards in recent years.

Tubulars also has a presence in Dubai, where the team has been manufacturing TCP equipment since 2000. The department in Dubai has the capacity to manufacture approx 20,000ft/month with sizes varying from 1 9/16” through to 4 ½” - increasing to 7” within the next two months with the addition of new machines.

Responsible for activity in the Middle East and Far East regions, the team in Dubai continue to demonstrate excellent teamworkand are both flexible and customer focused.

When the sparks are flying and the chucks are turning it’s not long before the yard is full of assembledcompletion products ready to ship to customers.

The Gun Shop, established in 1989, manufactures perforating gun (TCP) equipment and pressure control equipment (PCE) components. It has the capacity to manufacture approx 25,000ft /month of perforating guns and works closely with customers in Europe, Russia, the CIS and Africa.

The Casing Shop, established in 1992, is responsible for the Slotting and Holing of Casing and the department has seen a significant increase in casing orders recently thanks to its new customer Sumitomo.

The Screen Shop manufactures Screen products for Baker and has been a part of the Tubulars department since 1995. The Screen Shop team have the capacity to produce up to 150 joints per week.

The Tubulars division of NOV ASEP Elmar in Aberdeen can be split into 3 departments:

NAME: Rene de Pater

JOB TITLE: Senior Hydraulic Mechanic

QUALIFICATIONS: Vocational Studies Mechanical Engineering

GETTING THERE: During my studies I secured an internship at ASEP for six months. After I graduated, I returned to ASEP and started working as an apprenticeHydraulic Mechanic. After one year I became a Hydraulic Mechanic and 3 years later a Senior Hydraulic Mechanic.

WHAT ROLE DOES YOUR DEPARTMENT PLAY WITHIN THE COMPANY?My department is responsible for all hydraulics systems in the DataLines and DataSplits. The engines are provided to us by our assembly department and we build them into the units and make sure everything is connected properly.

BEST BITS OF YOUR JOB: I think our technology is very interesting and I like working on these high-quality products. Also, I like taking care of the activities surrounding the build of a unit, to ensure everything runs smoothly.

WORST BITS OF YOUR JOB: After several years in this position there are some standard tasks that are not as challenging as they used to be. Of course they are part of the job, but I prefer learning new skills and completing the more challenging tasks.

IN MY SPARE TIME: I enjoy skiing, although I don’t get to do it as often as I would like as we don’t have ski slopes in the Netherlands. I am also spending my spare time building a boat from scratch.

FUTURE AMBITIONS: I am considering going to college in the evening to get my Bachelors degree in Technical Business Administration, since I am interested in Work Preparation.

ADVICE TO OTHERS: When I started working for ASEP one of the managers said to me: “No matter what your background is, if you want to realise something and you work hard for it, that will take you very far within this company.” I always remembered that and I think it is true.
