The ASCI in consultation with subject matter specialists in ornamental fisheries developed a 12 hours course module for imparting “On-line training on job role as Aquarium Technician-Recognition of Prior Learning”.
The ornamental fish keeping has become a very popular hobby in the country and continue to grow very fast. A large number of youths has set up “Aquarium Shops” and also become “Aquarium Service Providers”. A few of these are either qualified professionals or undergone some subject specific training before starting their enterprise. But many of them ventured into the business based on their working experience only. They possess enough practical experience to perform the job but lack the basic concepts of the science of Aquarium Fish Keeping. It is of disadvantage to the promotion of the hobby of the ornamental fish keeping as well as their own growth. Such aquarium traders and service providers find it inconvenient to join the training programs on the subject that are organised by many institutions from time to time at different places because firstly they are not able to spare themselves from the business for a long period and secondly the distant location of training centres. 4.
