Steer Fundraiser Our 3 steers have been sold leaving us with a approximately a profit of $2300 as we may still have transport to pay. A big thank you to - Scott O’Dea for purchasing. Hosking family for raising them. Hayley Pettifer for organizing Landmarks involvement. Landmark for selling them and not charging us commission.

Relay Toys at School Please remember that toys, fancy stationery, pets etc are not allowed at school unless specifically organised with a staff member. Too many items have been lost, broken and unfortunately stolen in the past – especially when out in the yard. Please keep them safe at home rather than at school.

After School Pick Up Just a gentle reminder that the Relay For Life committee Please keep in mind that school finishes at 3:25. We often have students (who are not bus kids), who are still on site at nearly 4:00 which is not appropriate or fair on staff. Please make sure you are collecting your child in a timely fashion.

Consents and Policy Information Please be aware that the package of information containing a general student consent form, school policies and procedures was sent out to all families. The policies and procedures are for you to keep at home for your reference. Please keep returning the consents with a yes or no on both sides along with the Cyber Safe Policy (this policy is for all children in your family) and the mobile phone policy, if your child is going to bring a phone or a electronic device to school. Phones and electronic devices are to be turned off before they are on school ground and not turned on until they have left the school ground. All phones and electronic devices must be signed in and handed in first thing into the front office for safe keeping.

Pastoral Care News

This year we are continuing working with Kimochis at Compton Primary. Kimochis is Japanese for ‘feelings’, and comes with 7 characters,

Clover, Bella Rose, Cloud, Lovey Dove, Bug, Huggtopus and Cat. Each character experiences different emotions and each have their own personality. These tools are used to give students a focused, safe time to learn to identify and express feelings, work through conflicts, and build the foundations for social and emotional intelligence. Students learn how to manage emotional moments, techniques for managing life’s challenging moments with character and confidence. It is evidence based, professionally developed school program. When students can communicate their feelings effectively, they build confidence, self-esteem, and strong relationships. When students are optimistic and have a caring environment in the classroom in which they feel connected, included and valued, significant learning will occur. Pam Young Pastoral Care Worker

Student Leadership News Welcome to the 2020 school year! We hope everyone had a great Christmas break. We are excited to be your 2020 school captains. We will work as a team to make 2020 your best year yet. So far we have had lunch with all the classes and introduced ourselves. It was great fun and we plan to do more. We are excited to be attending the GRIP Leadership Conference this year at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre. We are planning many exciting activities and occasions to have this year. Now that Quality Start is finished we will be making plans for the things we would like to do this year. Two things we would like to work on in our drinks day menu and composting.

Drinks Day

On Wednesday we will be selling –

Fruit boxes $1.10c Icy Poles $0.40c Muesli Bars $0.50c Sultanas $0.50c Popcorn $0.50c

Hot Lunches– Every Wednesday Orders can be made via message on Facebook or Email to [email protected] then payment can be made on our website. www.comptonps.sa.edu.au if you don’t know your family id just put your family name.

T-Ball For the last 2 Fridays we have played T-Ball at the Blue Lake Sports Park. They were both really good and close matches. It was tricky at the end of both games as the last batter needs to hit a home run to get all the other batters home. My favourite place to play is batting as I can practice and try to hit further to go and be the last batter. My position when fielding is down like a frog because it is easier to get the ball. Scott has taught me how to bat and I am now hitting the ball further that ever before. A Big thank you to Scott for coaching us. Also a big thank you to my Dad (Jade) for coming out and supporting our team and helping Scott. He also holds my glove while I am batting, thanks dad! Paige

Around the Classrooms

We have had a busy start to the year with two weeks of

This week we are wrapping up our Maths topic – Number.

We have learnt about prime and composite numbers,

factor trees and the Lowest Common Multiple. We have

spent the last week looking closely at these and used Art

to create representations of Factor Trees. Below are

some examples of how creative and talented our students

are. The task was to ‘create a factor tree using creativity,

art and possible flowers’.

The Middle Primary Classroom have set ourselves

up for a successful 2020.

The middle primary classrooms learning intentions in

writing this term has been to use descriptive language

and a variety of sentence beginnings when writing

imaginative texts. In class we have been excited to

learn how to use sizzling starts to engage our readers.

Sizzling starts are meant to excite and capture the

readers attention.

This week we spent time working on improving our

sizzling starts through the 5 minute fast starts tasks.

Here are some of the amazing sizzling starts some of

our classmates have written.

Miss Hamilton and the 4/5 Class

During ‘Quality Start’, our class has brainstormed

behaviours that demonstrate kindness, respect,

perseverance and resilience which are our school

values.

Our visions for 2020 -

“Growing our minds”

In our class we will show we are growing our minds by

having a growth mindset. A mistake is a chance to

learn something new and our golden word is YET!

We will always work hard to create a safe learning

environment as we all know we are responsible for our

own learning and behaviour.

We will take pride in our learning tasks to produce

quality work and achieve our individual goals.

We will work together as a team to follow our school

values.

We will have fun as we learn together. We are going

to be outstanding listeners.

In Maths we have been concentrating on Place Value

and number sequences.

In Word Work we have been working on plurals and

their rules. Mrs D

In Maths we have focussed on improving our

subatising skills with dice. We also started learning

about graphing and data.

In Reading we are playing reading eggs while groups

do guided reading learning specific sounds and how

to blend words together.

We have been working in Handwriting on correct

formation of letters.

In Spelling we have been learning sounds and blends.

In Design and Technology we have continued on with

our unit of work around houses. We created some

wonderful houses for birds.
