Tension rope: rope of 7 mm or 9 mm in diameterSleeves made of Aluminium are pressed onto the rope every 112mm. These sleeves are coated with synthetic balls which isolatethe rope from the tube as well as serve as the form-fitted power

    transmission from the drive wheel.

Support rope: properties see tension rope

When using a 7mm rope, the plastic support parts are lined uploosely onto the rope. If the rope breaks, the plastic supports willform a solid cylinder between the overspeed governor (see page14) and the carriage, causing the carriage to stop. For longrailways (> 20 metres of railway) it is necessary to use a 9 mm(diameter) rope. On these railways, the plastic supports are

separated by aluminium cases (this also forms a solid cylinder).

    2.2.2 Horizontal railway

Railway angles between 0 and 20 demand a horizontal railway. Foradditional stabilisation a special railway for horizontal drive is needed.A third stabilisation point is mounted on the carriage; a third tube onthe railway will take up the third point. The third point of the carriage isa guide-ball, mounted onto the back of the carriage.

    Illustration 9: horizontal railway

    2.2.3 Negative bend

Negative bends require a special carriage in order to avoid a clashbetween the platform and the wall. Often the rear edges of the platformmust be cut.

    Illustration 10:Negative bend

As platform size increases, so doesthe need for additional space. Please note that when usinga smaller platform, thewheelchair could be larger than theplatform and therefore could touchthe wall.

    2.4. Safety features

    2.4.1. Overspeed governor

    Performance of the overspeed governor:

During normal operation of the lift, the pendulum (catch hook) slides with itsbackside over the plastic support parts. The hook-nose moves to the narrowestpoint of each plastic support. Before reaching the largest diameter of the plasticsupport the hook-nose swings back. The pendulum is held in its position by its

gravity due to the eccentric position of the pivot.

Due to inertia, the pendulum does not have enough time to return to its normalposition when experiencing overspeed and the nose of the hook runs into theplastic supports. This causes both the support rope and the carriage to halt. Theindented pendulum also activates the limit switch; this switch stops the driveimmediately. In order to avoid the pendulum from swinging excessively damagingthe support rope, a block is installed.

    2.4.2. Barriers

The connection rod is fixed with the barriers by levers. When opening the barriers, the connection rod moves down and vice versa. The locking hook is mountedswivelling (rod 1) on the connection rod. The connection rod is guided on theplatform slider (rod 2).

Barrier closed and locked:A spring keeps the locking hook in its position and the locking hookprops itself up on rod 2. As rod 1 is connected with the locking hook, itcannot be moved. If the spring breaks, the locking hook will be kept inposition by gravity and by the spring and the roller of the limit switch. Ifthe barriers are open and the spring breaks, the locking hook will notclose and after leaving the by-pass switch at the latest, the lift will stopimmediately.

Barrier unlocked and opened:Due to the control cams entrance, the levers for unclamping thebarriers will be pressed about 8 cm in front of the stop position. Byusing the unclamping lever and the bearing mounted on the upper endof the locking hook, the locking hook will be moved into positionunclamped. Therefore rod 2 is free and can move down into the slotand the barrier can be opened (parallel to this, the ramp will move intoits parking position).

    2.4.3. Bypass switch

The lever for unclamping the barriers and a limit switch inside the carriage ispressed by the control cam when reaching a stop position. This limit switchserves as an additional safety feature and stops the drive immediately. Toprevent the drive from stopping during normal operation and to guarantee acomplete drive into the stop position, it is necessary to use the by-passswitch, mounted on the lower end of the railway.

    Entering the stop position:

The control lever is turned down and keeps the by-pass switch pressed(illustration 25, left). The control lever will be moved up when reachingbar 2. The by-pass switch is now free. Due to the opening contact ofthe by-pass switch, the limit switch for the barrier in the carriage isbridged.

Exiting the stop position:When reaching Bar 1 the control lever is pressed down, therefore thebypass switch is activated again and the switch elements are opened.

The control lever keeps its position due to its gravity and due to thepressure of the spring of the by-pass switch. Should the lever moveinto an incorrect position while travelling, bar 1 corrects the position ofthe control lever before reaching the next stop position.

    2.4.4. Pressure-sensitive ramps

The ramps of the platform serve as an additional safety feature, as they arepressure-sensitive. The circuit will be interrupted immediately (stopping thecarriage) if the platform runs against an obstacle or if the ramps are pressed downby the user.
