Ombudsman PLUS partners with public school districts to serve students with disabilities whose Individual Education Program (IEP) teams have determined that the most appropriate place to implement their educational program is a therapeutic day school. Students attending an Ombudsman PLUS center receive intensive academic, behavioral, and therapeutic services according to their IEPs by certified special education teachers and licensed clinical social workers. Ombudsman PLUS combines blended learning and direct instruction to deliver a high quality, standards-based instructional program designed to keep students on track for a timely high school graduation.

District PartnershipsOmbudsman PLUS works closely with district staff to deliver an evidence-based educational program in close proximity to district schools in order to:

• facilitate the transition of students to aless restrictive environment (i.e., districtschool); and

• minimize transportation requirements

Ombudsman operates similar PLUS centers in Illinois and is an approved provider by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to serve students with an IEP for an emotional disability, learning disability, autism, other health impairment, speech/language impairment, and/or multiple disabilities.

Social, Emotional and Behavioral Support• Evidence-based social skills instruction,

positive behavior intervention and supports,and individual and group counseling aredaily components of the Ombudsman PLUSprogram.

• Licensed clinical social workers providemental health services and coordinate thebehavior support program.

• Social workers lead daily group counselingsessions using evidence-based socialskills curricula and other resources to helpstudents increase their capacity for positivesocial interactions at school, home, and inthe community.

• Additionally, students are providedindividual counseling throughout the weekaccording to their IEPs.

low student-teacher ratio and subsequentlycan offer students an intensive and highlysupportive academic program.

• Teachers use data from quarterlybenchmark assessments in reading andmath to plan and monitor their instructionand assign students to intervention andinstructional groups.

AccreditationThe Ombudsman PLUS program is aligned to state learning standards and accredited by AdvancEd. To earn this accreditation, Ombudsman PLUS meets rigorous AdvancEd standards, engages in continuous improvement and demonstrates quality assurance through internal and external reviews. AdvancED accreditation is recognized internationally as a distinctive mark of quality.
