The Orienta l Inst itute, part of the University
of Chicago. is a world-renowned center for
research, focused o n the study of the ancient Middle East. Our museum ho uses a major
collection of antiquities from the regions of
ancient Egypt. Iran, Iraq. Israel, Nubia, Syria,
and Turkey, mainly dating from between
10,000 Be-AD 6S0.These lands were called the
"Orient" at the turn of the last century when University of Chicago archaeologists began
unearthing many of the artifacts now on view
in the museum. Bilingual interactive kiosks and
activity car ds supply additional information
about the exhibits . During your visit. stop at the Suq shop for books about the ancient
world and gifts fro m today's Middle East.
