Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to one
and all. We hope that everyone has a healthy and
prosperous new year in 2020. I want to thank every-
one who parcipated in the 2019 Ohio Trek adven-
tures, we hope that you had fun, did some riding and
enjoyed seeing at least one new place in Ohio. The
2020 Trek Booklets will be available at Cabin Fever
and this year we have dropped the price to $10.00 for
the booklet. The rules remain the same and we will
again have the $100.00 ride challenge for all who do
12 of the 15 Trek Rides and turns their booklet in.
At the Officers meeng we informed everyone
that due to a lack of parcipaon Buckeye Time Out
has been cancelled. Parcipaon is down everywhere
but especially at Time Out. We are hoping that by
cancelling this one event and that by combining sec-
on picnics we will be able to connue the rest of the
Ohio District Events. This will be up to the member-
ship. If you want the events such as Cabin Fever and
Buckeye Rally and District Picnics to connue then
please come out and enjoy the events and parcipate
in the acvies.
As was menoned at the Fall Officers meeng,
Naonal is again asking for our help in increasing
membership. Anyone can offer a free month trial
membership to GWRRA. This offer is found inside the
Gold Book. Naonal is asking that we use this month
free trial membership as a recruing tool. I am asking
that everyone try to add at least one recruing event
to your Ride Schedule. Not everyone knows about
GWRRA, awareness of our existence is everything. So
increase the awareness, be visible, wear your chapter
colors, your vests to any GWRRA funcon dinner
rides, ice cream rides, pizza nights, the more people
see us the more aware they are of our organizaon.
As you are compleng your ride schedules
please keep in mind the following dates: February 6th
-8th
is Cabin Fever at Salt Fork State Park Lodge. April
18th
is the Spring Officers meeng in Obetz, May 9th
is
Motorist Awareness Day, Buckeye Rally June 11th-
13th
at Wayne County Fairgrounds; Wing Ding starts
June 30th
-July 4th
. Fall Officers meeng will be No-
vember 21st
in Obetz. Please understand that the
Officers meengs were made on dates that the com-
munity center had open. Somemes chapters have to
rearrange gathering or chapter event dates to accom-
modate these dates. When we were Chapter Direc-
tors, there were many years that we had to move
things around. We understand that this is not always
easy to do, unfortunately this is somemes necessary.
Other dates to add to your ride schedules are
other chapter fund raisers. I have noced a large de-
crease in aAendance at Chapter fund raisers in the
past couple of years. Please make plans to go out and
support your fellow chapters and GWRRA members.
Fundraisers should be exactly that, FUN for both the
host chapter as well as all those who aAend. I know
that we always have fun at the events.
Here’s to a safe, fun, holiday season and to a
fun, safe prosperous New Year for all of us and for our
organizaon.

Lynn and I want to say that we missed Chapter
I road kill stew but it was for a really good reason that
we had our third grandchild at 4:43 that aEernoon.
We both think that it was more important to see our
grand baby than going to an aucon. I also think most
other folks would agree. We plan to aAend next year
unless there is another one born around that me
(hehehe).
We had a good me checking out Salt Fork
Lodge aEer the officer meeng and looking forward
to having Cabin Fever there. It is 13 miles off the In-
terstate and half is on route 22.
Here is a link talking about a motorcycle rider
that goes against all odd to keep doing what he loves
to do. hAps://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/inspiring-
story-dave-barr-an-amputee-motorcyclist-who-rides-
around-world. Check it out for an inspiring story.
I hope everybody is having and going to have a
good holiday season and a safe one unl next riding
season.
North Central Secon
Rudy & Linda
Copeland Even though the weather has not been conducive
to riding this November, we have managed to keep
acve with GWRRA events. On November 2nd we
aAended the annual Road Kill Stew sponsored by
chapter I. On the 5th we ate pizza at Marian’s and
then enjoyed T2’s gathering. I helped Robert G. Wil-
liams instruct an MFA (Medic First Aid) for Chapter B
on November 9th in Tiro, Ohio. We were then sur-
prised on Monday the 11th (Veteran’s Day) and Tues-
day the 12th to be blessed with 4 1/2 inches of snow
and a temperature of 4 degrees.
November 16th was the yearly fall officer’s
meeng in Obetz. Much informaon was passed on
to the officer’s who aAended. For something different
this year it was decided to have a west side secon
picnic (combining northwest and southwest secons).
It will be August 8, 2020 at Tawawa Park in Sidney,
Ohio.
AEer the officer’s meeng, the district team trav-
eled to Salt Fork Lodge to check out the facility for
Cabin Fever. Registraons for Cabin Fever are now
posted on the district web site. The theme is “Famous
Duos.” We look forward to having a lot of fun with
this theme. Be aware that Bigfoot may make his pres-
ence known.
On Monday November 25th we aAended Chapter
S’s gathering where we observed 22 chapter B mem-
bers take the traveling plaque from chapter S. It
looked like a sea of red shirts versus a sea of blue
shirts. It is so much fun watching two chapters have
so much fun with the traveling plaque The next even-
ing we aAended chapter N’s gathering in Lima. We
hope everyone had a blessed and enjoyable Thanks-
giving.
With Thanksgiving falling as late as it possibly can
we hope everyone enjoys the short me before
Christmas. We will be very busy the first week of De-
cember aAending various chapter Christmas dinners
and pares. December 5th is chapter T2’s party at CJ
Chumps in Huber Heights. Friday night December 6th
will find us in Kalida at chapter N’s party. Rosie Sand-
ers says she has wrapped many presents for the bingo
game. We will then be in Arcadia on Saturday Decem-
ber 7th enjoying the evening with chapter A. The next
weekend will find us very busy with our annual “Feed
the Seniors” program with chapter F. On Saturday
evening December 14th we will shop for 12 families
and purchase their Christmas dinner for them. Then
on Sunday we deliver the food to their homes. This
experience gives one a whole new meaning to helping
others during the Christmas season. We will then end
the year with chapter T2 on December 31st when we
have dinner and a movie.
We want to wish everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS
AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR.

OHIO, It's not the des-na-on, it's the ride.
Motorist Awareness
Coordinator Gary Ballou Notes from the field A Second Reminder: As every chapter prepares your 2020 Ride Calendar, remember to set aside the second Saturday of May (May 9 in this case) to do something to observe the 2nd annual GWRRA National Motorist Awareness Day.
“The Next Big News” is that the GWRRA Motorist Awareness promotional materials, public service audio clips, videos, brochures & presentations are finally available as links on our Ohio District Website. (Yay!) Here’s how to find them….
Go to the Ohio District Home Page at https://ohiogwrra.org/
Put your mouse pointer over the
“Programs and Information” heading
and you’ll see something like this ..
Move down & click on the “Motorist
Awareness” heading and you’ll go to our
new Motorist Awareness Home Page
Use the scroll bar on the right edge of the page to scroll down …
And you’ll find LOTS of neat resources inicluding tri-fold brochures, videos, a kids’ coloring book page and other aids including several PowerPoint presentations and Presenter Guides that you may use to share our “Please Look Out for Motorcycles” message with public groups
All of the materials are here for your use BUT remember that the Tri-Fold brochures and the PowerPoint presentations are the copyrighted property of GWRRA and may not be modified or used by other organizations without written permission.
If you have any questions or need assistance, please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected]

I would like to thank everybody that re-
sponded or gave me suggesons on the website. I
have goAen nice comments from local to naonal
team members on what I have done. I am always
working on ways to making the Ohio district web-
site the best in GWRRA but it takes input from mem-
bers with suggesons to get it there. Keep up the
great work on suggesons or either finding mistakes
that the website has and leVng me know. I was con-
tacted by one chapter that says that the map of their
gathering place was wrong and I am working on got
this corrected. Please check out your chapter infor-
maon so that other members or new ones know
where to go.

Treasury Notes Karen Ballou
Ok, I have talked about all the pages in the financial report, talked at the breakout session at the Officer’s Meeng last month, and even drummed up the courage to do the module of Checks and Balances at the Officer’s Meeng. I HAVE TALKED ENOUGH..My tongue is red and I am out of words. I want you to send me your words, specifi-cally your HAIKUs for the New Year. 2020 is a special date, as all double number dates are. The
first decade of the 21st century is over. Think
about that. We won’t see the next double
number date 2121. A Haiku can be about ‘almost’ anything, but needs to follow the
5—7—5 format
(that’s 5 and 7 syllables, like “newsleAer” is 3 syllables.)
Send your New Year Haiku to me, Karen Ballou at my [email protected] email. If you want your name authored with it, let me know. Otherwise, I will publish anonymously.
BE CREATIVE…… HAVE FUN !
Calling all poets, word smiths and even
normal people.

3. First full-me automobile service staon opened in 1899.
4. Cleveland claims to have erected America’s first traffic light on August 4, 1914. (now they seem to be every 10 feet; progress ! )
5. First concrete street in America was poured in 1891 near the Logan County Courthouse, Bellefontaine. (wonder if it lasted more than a year without potholes? )
6. Cleveland also claims the site of the first pedestrian buAon for the control of a traffic light. (why bother? Everyone jay-walks)
7. Akron was the first city to use police cars. ( I like the horses beAer..)
8. In 1865, the first ambulance service was established in Cincinna. (had to have been out-of-network )
9. Cleveland was the first city to be lighted by electricity. (At least Cleveland was the first city in Ohio, right MarieAa?)
10. The first professional city fire department was in Cincinna. (did the Cleveland traffic light flash red? )
