OGMS Spring Dance and Social
March 16th IDs Required for Entrance
The OGMS Student Council is sponsoring an after-school Dance and Social on March
16th from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m in the MPR. Entrance to the dance is free, but students must
have their student ID with them. There will be a DJ, activities and treats for students.
Our student council has prepared carnival games, so students who may feel
self-conscious about their dance moves can still come and have fun!
Parents are asked to drop off and pick up their students in the front parking lot of the
school. Please pick up promptly at 5:00 p.m. This is a casual event, and students must
adhere to the OGMS dress code.
8th-Grade Promotion All 8th-grade families should have received a letter in the mail inviting them to a parent
breakfast on March 22nd from 7:45 - 8:30 a.m. Mr. Rubin-Toles will discuss the
promotion guidelines provided in this mailing, and samples of the portrait
photographer’s work will be on display. 8th-grade portraits will be taken on March
27th for those interested in ordering a portrait packet. A payment envelope was also
provided in this mailing. If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Algeo or Mrs.
Morgan at 209-8201.

Panthers We’re Proud Of Join us in congratulating Noah Wellman and Alexandra Zega! The Altrusa International
Young Authors Contest will honor them at the Tucson Festival of Books this weekend.
Noah entered his poem “Rolling Pin” and short story “Festival of Sight” and Alex
entered her poem “On the Importance of a Dependent Variable”.
David Aguirre has shown mad geography knowledge, and is a semifinalist who will now
compete at the state level for the National Geographic Geography Bee. David
competed in our schoolwide Bee in January and passed the online test in February!
One champion from each state and territory will advance to the National Geographic
Bee Championship, which will be held May 20-23 at the National Geographic Society
headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The OGMS MathCounts team won the Southern Arizona Regional MathCounts
competition held in February, beating out students from across southern Arizona,
including Basis, Sonoran Science Academy, and The Gregory School. The OGMS team
will compete at the state level in Phoenix on March 24.
Pics of the Week
Defense attorney
Nathaniel Cross in Mr.
Flynn’s class makes a
dramatic closing
statement in defense
of William Laws Calley
Jr., accused of
murdering 22
unarmed South
Vietnamese civilians
in the Vietnam War.
Ms. Willman confers
with her jurors, who
have just heard the
prosecution’s case in the
court martial - all 8th
graders are experiencing
this simulated
courtroom experience.
Students in Ms. Lichty’s
class reflect and give each
other feedback about
their portrayal (in terms
of accuracy and
presentation) of the real
historical figures in the
trial.
Students in Ms. Pyne’s class
ask questions about cells,
like “how many new cells
do we get every day?”
What’s your estimate?
Band students in Mr.
Chilson’s class warm up
and get formative
feedback about their
posture in the first five
minutes of class.
How is your posture right
now?
Students in Arabella La
Chance’s class proudly
show off their children’s
books, incorporating
thematic vocabulary. This
one was about an
enigmatic character, “Lil’
J’osh,” who went shopping
at Macy’s.
Students in Community Schools’ SARSEF program, taught by Ms. Hoenshell and Ms.
Powers, tend to their experimental garden.
