Welcome to 2012 from your Indiana Ranch Horse Association. Your IRHA Board of Directors has been very busy this year in planning for another successful show season. We have made several changes to help keep your show expenses at a minimum. I want to personally thank all of them for their efforts; they put in a lot of time before the shows can even be started.

I encourage all of you to visit the IRHA website and get familiar with the changes that have taken place. We’ve made some changes to our show bill. Year-end and Weekend High Point awards will be tallied a little differently. Our May show will be held at the C Bar C Expo Center in Cloverdale, June and September will be at Rochester, and we are going in with Michigan,

Wisconsin, and Missouri to put on a three-day show in October at Gordyville USA in Gifford, Illinois. We will also have a booth at the Hoosier Horse Fair April 13-15.

2011 was a very successful year for IRHA and IRHA members. Several of our members are ranked in the Top Twenty of ARHA in each class. Our shows have a family-type atmosphere, were everyone is willing to help each other and yet we still stay competitive. See a member of the Show Committee if you would like to volunteer to help out at our shows. They would appreciate the help.

IRHA needs everyone to continue to help bring in sponsorships, new members, and promote IRHA for continued success in 2012. Hope to see all of you at the shows. Rick Landes

We’re Giving Away Free Stalls!Yes, you heard us correctly! IRHA is offering a free stall to be won at each of the three IRHA shows (Cloverdale & Rochester).

Here’s how to enter the drawing for your chance to win:

Simply go out and secure a sponsor at any level of giving to IRHA.

For each Sponsor you secure, your name goes in the hat to be drawn before each show. There is no limit on how many Sponsors you can secure...get as many as you can, as many as you want! EACH ONE COUNTS as an entry into the drawing. If you don’t win the first time ‘round, guess what? Your name is entered into the next drawing for the next show! The more Sponsors that commit to IRHA under your name, the more chances you have at winning A FREE STALL!

By the way, stalls ain’t cheap, you know!!

Winners will be announced at the shows.

Sponsorship forms are included in this newsletter and they are also on the website. Simply print them out and start visiting your local feed and tack stores, or wherever you think you may be able to get a Sponsor. Be sure to include your name on the sponsorship form so we know YOU get entered into the drawing!

If you have any questions about your Mission, contact Miriam Farrell.

Did we mention that stalls ain’t cheap?

ATTENTION IRHA MEMBERS COMPETING FOR AWARDS

IRHA High Point Awards Programs Have Changes

For 2012, the high point awards programs have some modifications that members need to be aware of when determining what classes they wish to show in and what awards they wish to compete for. IRHA members who wish to compete for high point awards in each division must meet the following BASIC criteria:

• Must be a member of IRHA in good standing;

• May compete in division(s) they qualify for, but points are based on one horse / one rider combo in that division (Example: Amateur may not use points earned in the All Age division to count toward an Amateur Division high point award);

• Must show in at least 3 of the 4 shows offered in 2012. The Gordyville Midwest Regional Ranch Horse Classic counts as one of IRHA’s shows as points earned at this show will go towards IRHA weekend & year-end awards.

The following is the necessary criteria for each awards program IRHA offers in 2012:

Year End High Point Awards Program

• This program will ONLY use points earned in the following classes to determine the high point champions in each division:

-Conformation -Ranch Riding -Ranch Roping -Working Ranch Horse -Ranch Reining -Ranch Cutting -Ranch Trail

Points earned in other classes in the same division will not count toward this award.

Weekend High Point Awards

• IRHA will use points accumulated in all classes offered in each division in determining the weekend high point division champions.

IRHA & Other Charters to Host Joint Show

Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Indiana and Missouri Ranch Horse charters are collectively hosting the 2012 Midwest Regional Ranch Horse Classic at Gordyville, USA, October 19-21 in Gifford, Illinois.Plans are tentative at this point in time, however, this will be an ARHA approved show, triple judged, and each charter will be using points from this show as part of their own year-end points.

IRHA has volunteered to handle the procurement and management of cattle at the show, as well as the design of all promo materials, entry forms and the show bill. The show is offering a $5 discount PER CLASS for pre-registering before October 6. The promotional poster IRHA designed for the show is included in this newsletter.

All ARHA members are welcome to come to the show. It is an ARHA approved event and exhibitors will earn ARHA points.

Classes begin at 10 am on Friday, October 19, with all the riding classes held on Friday and Saturday. All conformation and showmanship classes will be held on Sunday.

Division high point awards as well as circuit class awards will be presented.

For further details, go to IRHA’s website, or go to ARHA’s website for the most current information.

ARHA Adds Cattle Boxing to Class Roster

ARHA has approved Cattle Boxing for the Amateur and Youth divisions in 2012. The class consists of pattern work, followed by cow work on a single cow.

Exhibitors may not enter the class if they have any ARHA or other breed association points in Working Cow Horse.

IRHA has added boxing as a class to its 2012 show bill. For a complete description of the class, consult your 2012 ARHA Rulebook or visit their website: www.americanranchhorse.net.

What to Know BEFORE You Show!

Here is a quick check list of things you will need to have handy when you check in at the show office at any IRHA show:

• Your current 2012 ARHA Membership Card; • Copy of your horse’s ARHA Certificate of Eligibility (registration paper)• Your CORRECTLY FILLED OUT class entry form if you have not pre-registered classes;• Your horse’s negative Coggins certificate and health certificate if you are coming in from another state;• A blank check or money to secure your entries.

If you have all these things handy and your Entry Form is filled out CORRECTLY, then our office staff will see to it that your entries are processed in a timely manner, you receive your back numbers (one per horse), and your experience with IRHA is a great one!

HELPFUL HINT:Take your membership card, place it over an area of your horse’s registration certificate in an area where it does not hide any information (upper left or right hand corner), and make a photocopy.

Now you can simply hand the photocopy to the show secretary and not have to worry about shuffling through paperwork, membership cards, entry forms, and other stuff you may have with you. It’s quick, convenient and you don’t risk something happening to your original membership card or horse registration certificate.

The show secretary must make sure that the information you have filled out on your entry form is correct according to your membership and horse registration info. Please make sure to double check this information yourself before submitting your entry form. Incorrect information WILL RESULT IN A LOSS OF ARHA & IRHA POINTS.

Please don’t wait until the last minute before the show starts on Saturday morning to bring in your entry forms. Please try and have these turned in as early as possible.
