President’sMessage-fromCindy

Due to the Covid-19 virus it is with great sadness I report our quilt show is being postponed.  A new date has not been set but we have already started working on obtaining a new date. All the hard work everyone has done is not in vain.  Most aspects of the show can still be used.

The April and May guild meetings along with the April board meeting are also cancelled; the May board meeting is questionable and we will see when we get closer.  It is very important to maintain the policy of staying at home and safe.  I hope everyone is getting a lot of sewing done.  We will be having a gigantic show&tell for our June meeting and I heard our program committee is providing ice cream.

It does seem like we forgot it is Spring.  Spend a little time outside raking or planting a vegetable garden.  You’ll feel a lot better and, who knows, what maybe you’ll see the Easter 🐣 Bunny

Cindy, Betsy, and Darlene

QUILT SHOW UPDATE from Betsy Lawrence: For the safety of our guild members and all quilters who would visit the show, it is great disappointment that we have to postpone the quilt show due to the COVID 19 virus outbreak.  At this time there is no date for the rescheduling of the show.  The raffle quilt must be drawn in May due to our license and what appears on the tickets.   Please make sure Deb Shupe has your stubs and money for the tickets sold (see elsewhere in newsletter) so they can be included in the drawing She prefers a check and she needs them by the end of April.

More on the Quilt Show from Betsy and Darlene: Thank you for all your responses and ideas. After reviewing everyone's input and keeping in mind the guild members efforts on registering 200 quilts, we should attempt to reschedule QuiltFest 2020 before the end of this year. Chrin Center was contacted and we can move the show date. November 6, 7 & 8 are available. Basketball season starts the following week so the center will not be available after those dates. If things do not get better by October 1 then we should cancel QuiltFest 2020 and have our next show on our schedule in 2022. We will not loose our $100 deposit if we cancel in November. The guild will need to consider alternative fundraising if we cancel. If there is majority agreement on this change, we would like to commit to the Chrin Center by the end of the month. Action Rentals was contacted, our deposit is transferable but not refundable. Their deposit was $200. The vendors have been notified and will receive a refund. They will be contacted again with a new contract with the new date info in June if we push forward with the November date. Arlene and Pat Christ will be contacted to see their availability for November. Carol Moll will notify area guilds, shops, websites & other sources of the change in the date. The raffle drawing must occur on May 3 due to what was printed on the tickets. Deb Shupe will handle. If there are any outstanding tickets that have been sold, Deb will need the stubs and the money before May 3. Our small gaming license expires around the 15h of May. Our charity will be contacted this week with an update on the changes. They also have been selling raffle tickets. The check book balance is $5,570, before any refunds to the vendors. If you have any outstanding bills, please send them to Jane Wismer so we have a better idea of what monies we have. As things improve we will meet by early summer. In the time being, communication on the show will be handled via emails or phone calls. Please stay save and healthy.

IMPORTANT!!!! RAFFLE TICKETS - All unsold tickets and all money for tickets sold needs to be returned to Deb prior to the May 3 drawing for the raffle quilt. Please mail all tickets and money to Deb Shupe, 266 Nor Bath Blvd., Northampton, PA 18067

MASK MAKING FOR HEALTH-CARE WORKERS DURING COVID19 You might consider making masks for hospitals. Although the ones we can make are not regulation PPE, Susan Truby reports from a nurse friend of hers says that masks we make can be used for routine things like wound care, etc., thus reserving the regulation PPE for the patients who are actually contagious/infectious; masks can also be used to keep the N95 masks cleaner. Also, Susan worked at Cedarbrook Senior Care & Rehab for 24 years as an RN; you can make reusable masks for staff to use in general to provide reassurance. Contact them to make a donation or call Susan Truby for more info. Here is updated (as of 3/25) info:

Minutes: Colonial Quilters Guild General Meeting March 10, 2020 The program was given before the business meeting. Vicki Pede introduced Kelly Freeman and shared the quilt she made in a workshop by Kelly. Kelly has been quilting about 15 years. Vicki commented that she was a very patient teacher and helped everyone in the workshop to be successful. Kelly’s presentation on thread painting was enjoyed by all. Many expressed interest in a possible workshop by her over the summer.

Business Meeting The meeting was called to order by President Cindy Fantasia at 8:34.Motion to approve Sue Jones as replacement secretary. Motion by Carol Moll. Seconded by Mary Henning. Approved.Janet Yandrisevits has volunteered for Sunshine and Shadow.Vice President Kathy Miller reported there were 56 members present, with no guests. 10-5 and Sunday 10-3.• No one has yet signed up for displays for the quilt show. There is a need for volunteers to provide small tables,

vases, baskets, etc. to make the space look nice.• Sign-up sheets were available at the meeting and will also be at the next meeting.• The next quilt show meeting is 31 March. Committee heads should plan to attend.• There are many stars left over from the last show. Suggestions were made for using them - garland, glue to a

wreath. Volunteers are needed to each take some stars and make one item. It was suggested that we could all work on them during the April meeting during the quilt show discussion.

• Quilt Registration - Lois Walters reported she received many registration forms at the meeting. Prior to the meeting, she had 135 quilts registered. Some members had inquired about entering tuffets into the show; that is acceptable. All registrations need to be to Lois by 25 March as that is the date of the meeting to plan the show layout.

• Susan Truby reported many pillowcase kits were prepared at the last community service sew. They are ready to be sewn at the show. There will be 3 sewing machines set-up; pins and scissors also will be available. Participants will just sit and sew - no need to bring any supplies.

• Michele Glynn spoke about the cafe. Two people will be making cabbage and noodles. An envelope was passed around for donations to buy soda and water.

• Boutique registrations are needed by the April meeting. Fabric yardage and fat quarters are not accepted, but other pre-cuts are acceptable, such as 5-inch square or strips.

She asked if anyone was interested.A reminder in light of the current coronavirus situation, if you don’t feel well, don’t come to a meeting. A suggestion has been made that meeting cancellations could be aligned with Bethlehem school district closings. The membership was not in favor of such a change, and the current method of email notification will continue.Susan Truby thanked everyone who came to the last community service sew. Tumbler quilts and premie quilts were made, and pillowcases were cut out in preparation for the quilt show.Kathy Lopez is looking for suggestions for books to purchase.
