The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is comprised of

leaders from each team who represent their fellow student-athletes and

act as liaisons to the University of Arkansas, the Athletic Department,

the SEC and the NCAA.

On Tuesday, November 17th, Associate Athletic Director for Compli-

ance, Tracey Stehlik, spoke with SAAC. Tracey has been with the ath-

letic department since before the separate male and female athletic

departments merged into one in 2008.

She gave insight into transfer eligibility and answered questions on the

overall cost of attendance.

Career Symposium

More than 25 employers from a variety of career fields provided about 80 University of

Arkansas junior and senior student-athletes the opportunity to network and participate

in a professional discussion panel during the 2015 Student-Athlete Career Symposium

held Monday, Nov. 30.

Ulanda Terry and former Razorback quarterback Quinn Grovey served as guest panel-

ists and encouraged student-athletes to build lasting relationships through networking.

They also encouraged searching for professional mentors and sponsors and finding

ways to create a reputable personal brand.

Terry, the director of diversity and leadership development at Tyson Foods Inc., helps

lead the strategic direction of Tyson’s diversity and inclusion efforts. She is also re-

sponsible for supporting the business with training and leadership development ser-

vices. Prior to joining Tyson, Terry coordinated the MBA recruiting program for

Walmart.

Grovey, an active Board of Directors member on the Razorback Foundation and the

Frank and Barbara Broyles Foundation, was a part of the Razorback football team from

1987 to 1990. As quarterback, Grovey led Arkansas to two Southwest Conference

Championships and two Cotton Bowls appearances. Grovey currently serves as a senior

manager of human resources at Walmart’s merchandising unit. He has more than 24

years of retail experience with Walmart Stores Inc. and The Home Depot.

The event also included presenting student-athletes the opportunity to meet networkers

and employers from various companies. Some of the organizations represented includ-

ed Northwestern Mutual, Cintas Corporation, Walmart, Tyson, American National In-

surance, Arvest Bank, University of Arkansas Medical Sciences (UAMS), Octagon,

Elizabeth Richardson Center, ALS Association, University of Arkansas Police Depart-

ment (UAPD), Fayetteville Public Schools and the University of Arkansas Career De-

velopment Center.

On Sunday November 22, 2015, the Uni-

versity of Arkansas had 21 student-athletes

participate in the first annual unified flag

football game. The student-athletes cheered

for and supported the Special Olympians

from Arkansas and Missouri. Missouri won

the football game 32-25, but Arkansas

played a great game.

The student-athletes really showed their

sprit by attending the game and supporting

the University of Arkansas flag football

team. Student-athletes from six different

sports attended the game: Soccer, Softball,

Football, Gymnastics and Men’s- and

Women’s-Track.

Psychology

Juliette knew a minimal amount of English when she came to the

U.S., but she’s practically fluent in it now. She is always on itme

and never misses an appointment. She comes with her work al-

ready complete and ready to check. Juliette has a wonderful sense

of humor and a kind, polite nature.

Megan has attended multiple Student-Athlete Development pro-

grams this month, as well as being an active member of the Razor-

back Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). She has placed

others before herself, which is exhibited in her service learning

hours. Megan was selected by the Department of Athletics Scholar-

ships and Awards Committee as one of five student-athletes to ap-

ply for the 2016 Nike Internship. Megan will also serve as the Sen-

ior Speaker in the Fall 2015 Student-Athlete Graduation Ceremony.

Braie always has a positive attitude when it comes to Academics.

She stays on top of her assignments and is well on her way to a

4.000 this semester. Though she is just a sophomore, she has be-

come a leader on her team. She encourages the freshmen student

athletes on her team. We receive amazing feedback from teachers

explaining that she consistently completes and turns in most assign-

ments before the due date. She is helpful and encouraging to all of

her teammates and has set a great example for the freshman to

follow.
