With that in mind, by the time you receive this newsletter Thanksgiving will be behind us and the Advent season upon us. As a church, we try and not repeat the same Advent theme every year, although I often wonder how many actually notice. For our coming Advent season each Sunday’s candle will take a slightly different theme. The overall theme is “God With Us” and revolves around worshipping as a family of God. This new series is intended to help families celebrate the birth of Jesus and that God is with us as we use this Advent Worship Series. Each week family members of all generations will come together to worship as we prepare for Christmas. We will also be sending home each week a family craft project and discussion questions for a family conversation. The themes for each week are as follows: Week 1: Our Potter - God is with us as our Potter, and we are the clay. Through faith in Jesus, we are formed as a new creation as God shapes us according to his will. Week 2: Our Shepherd - God is with us as our Shepherd. Jesus our Good Shepherd came to lay down his life and rise from the dead to bring us forgiveness and eternal life. Week 3: Our Living Branch - God is with us as our Living Branch. Jesus, a shoot from the stump of Jesse, was born into the family tree of King David. By faith we are the branches, and Jesus is our true vine. Week 4: Our Guide - God is with us as our Guide. He leads us according to his Word. Jesus is our Way back to God, our Way to eternal life. I am looking forward to this important time of year. I, for one, love the Christmas music and can’t wait to start playing it. It seems like every year the time goes by faster and faster, as it is one of our busiest times of the year. We will be trying something new for the Christmas Eve service this year. The Christmas Eve Service will be assisted by the FOC, instead of leading it, and I will be giving the Christmas Eve message. It is a wonderful time of year as we prepare for the day that Love came down on Christmas. The birth of Christ changed the history of the church forever and humanity will never be the same. Merry Christmas! God bless, Pastor Terry

As I am thinking about what to write for the next Echo newsletter, the weather certainly has a chill in the air and fall temperatures seem to have disappeared all-

together. With that in mind, by the time you receive this newsletter Thanksgiving will

be behind us and the Advent season upon us. As a church, we try and not repeat the same Advent theme every year, although I often wonder how many actually notice. For our coming Advent season each Sunday’s candle will take a slightly different

theme.

The themes for each week are as follows:

Week 3: Our Living Branch - God is with us as our Living Branch. Jesus, a shoot from the stump of Jesse, was born into the family tree of King David. By faith we are the branches, and Jesus is our true vine.

Week 4: Our Guide - God is with us as our Guide. He leads us according to his Word. Jesus is our Way back to God, our Way to eternal life.

I am looking forward to this important time of year. I, for one, love the Christmas music and can’t wait to start playing it. It seems like every year the time goes by faster and faster, as it is one of our busiest times of the year.

Our congratulations and best wishes are extended to Brent Reed & Meghan Mills on the happy occasion of their marriage at the Round Lake Vineyards & Winery on October 20.

Thank you to all our volunteers who

delivered Meals-on-Wheels in September,

who helped with Bingo at Sibley Specialty

Care in September, and who participated

in the Songfest at Heartwood Heights,

Country View Manor and Sibley Specialty

Care on July 23. We could not further our

outreach to the community without you.

(Due to space limitations and the

possibility of missing someone’s name,

who filled in for someone else, we will no

longer be printing names.)

Thank you for the cards, thoughts and

prayers we received during the time of our

Grandma’s (Marge Veen) passing. You will

keep in perfect peace him whose mind is

steadfast, because he trusts in you. Trust in

the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord, is

the Rock eternal.” (Isaiah 26: 3-4) Jason &

Cary Rueter and Mike & Jodi Van Westen

and families

Thank you so much for the phone calls,

food, cards, thoughts and prayers. Thank

you to Pastors Terry and Maggie for your

many visits. A special thanks to all of the

ladies who served the lunch. God Bless

You All. The family of Bob Huls

We want to thank our family and friends

for attending our 65th anniversary party.

We also want to thank you for the cards

and gifts we received. Frank & Audrey

Julius

Thank you for the beautiful plant you gave

us in our Mom’s memory. She was

blessed to be part of such a loving and

caring church family. God’s blessings. The

family of Janie Jobes

The family of Frank Julius would like to

thank our church friends and family for all

the food, prayers and visits during the loss

of our loved one. We are grateful for each

and every one of you.

We give our Christian sympathy to Esther

Ernst upon the death of her sister-in-law,

the Osceola Community Hospital on

September 24. Her memorial service was

held at Jurrens Funeral Home on

September 29.

Our heartfelt sympathy is given to the

families of Marge Veen, 86, of Sibley, who

passed away at Sanford Sheldon Medical

Center on September 28. We especially

pray for peace and comfort for the

the First Baptist Church, Sibley.

We give our Christian love and comfort to

daughter, Lizelle (husband Harold)

Dawson, and their family, upon her death

at Country View Manor on October 10.

Her funeral service was held at our church

on October 13.

Janie was born on September 5, 1931, in

Stockport, Iowa, the daughter of Fletcher

C. and Margaret E. (Stonebraker) Bell. She

grew up in rural southeast Iowa,

graduating from Fairfield High School and

Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa, earning

a teaching certificate. In the summer of

1951, Janie was part of a vocal trio, the

“Harmonettes,” who traveled throughout

the Dakotas, Wyoming and Minnesota,

performing at county fairs. That fall, she

moved to Melvin, Iowa, where she taught

fourth grade for one year. On April 10,

1952, she was united in marriage to

Norman L. Jobes at the First Presbyterian

Church in Atlantic, Iowa. They made their

home in Melvin where they raised their

family. In 1978, they moved to Hartley

after building their own home and later to

a rural acreage. In 2002, Janie and

Norman moved to Sibley. In July of 2018,

Janie moved from her home to Country

View Manor. Janie was active in the

church and the communities she lived in.

Over the years she worked at Tony and

Mary’s, the Double J/Pete’s, Gene’s

Foodland Deli, and volunteered as a

teacher’s aide for more than ten years at

Ben Franklin Elementary School. Janie was

a member of the First Presbyterian Church

in Sibley where she was blessed with a

wonderful church family. She enjoyed

crocheting/knitting, cross stitching,

reading, coloring, bird watching, and

camping. She is lovingly remembered for

sewing each of her daughters’ wedding

dresses. She loved spending time with her

family – children, grandchildren, and great

grandchildren – and many friends. Janie is

survived by her children, Cynthia (David)

Watson of Duluth, MN, Steven (Laura)
