Echo information is subject to change. All pictures and filler articles, if any, are taken from NewsletterNewsletter.com
As I am thinking about what to write for the next Echo newsletter, the weather certainly has a chill in the air and fall temperatures seem to have disappeared all-
together. With that in mind, by the time you receive this newsletter Thanksgiving will
be behind us and the Advent season upon us. As a church, we try and not repeat the same Advent theme every year, although I often wonder how many actually notice. For our coming Advent season each Sunday’s candle will take a slightly different
theme. The overall theme is “God With Us” and revolves around worshipping as a family of God.
This new series is intended to help families celebrate the birth of Jesus and that God is with us as we use this Advent Worship Series. Each week family members of all generations will come together to worship as we prepare for Christmas. We will also be sending home each week a family craft project and discussion questions for a family conversation. The themes for each week are as follows:
Week 1: Our Potter - God is with us as our Potter, and we are the clay. Through faith in Jesus, we are formed as a new creation as God shapes us according to his will.
Week 2: Our Shepherd - God is with us as our Shepherd. Jesus our Good Shepherd came to lay down his life and rise from the dead to bring us forgiveness and eternal life.
Week 3: Our Living Branch - God is with us as our Living Branch. Jesus, a shoot from the stump of Jesse, was born into the family tree of King David. By faith we are the branches, and Jesus is our true vine.
Week 4: Our Guide - God is with us as our Guide. He leads us according to his Word. Jesus is our Way back to God, our Way to eternal life.
I am looking forward to this important time of year. I, for one, love the Christmas music and can’t wait to start playing it. It seems like every year the time goes by faster and faster, as it is one of our busiest times of the year.
We will be trying something new for the Christmas Eve service this year. The Christmas Eve Service will be assisted by the FOC, instead of leading it, and I will be giving the Christmas Eve message. It is a wonderful time of year as we prepare for the day that Love came down on Christmas. The birth of Christ changed the history of the church forever and humanity will never be the same. Merry Christmas!
God bless, Pastor Terry

Our heartfelt sympathy is given to the
families of Marge Veen, 86, of Sibley, who

Center on September 28. We especially

members of our church family, her

and her granddaughter, Cary (husband
Jason) Rueter, and their families. Her
funeral service was held on October 2, at
the First Baptist Church, Sibley.
We give our Christian love and comfort to
the families of Janie Jobes, 87, especially
to the members of our church family, her
daughter, Lizelle (husband Harold)
Dawson, and their family, upon her death
at Country View Manor on October 10.
Her funeral service was held at our church
on October 13.
Janie was born on September 5, 1931, in
Stockport, Iowa, the daughter of Fletcher
C. and Margaret E. (Stonebraker) Bell. She
grew up in rural southeast Iowa,
graduating from Fairfield High School and
Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa, earning
a teaching certificate. In the summer of
1951, Janie was part of a vocal trio, the
“Harmonettes,” who traveled throughout
the Dakotas, Wyoming and Minnesota,
performing at county fairs. That fall, she
moved to Melvin, Iowa, where she taught
fourth grade for one year. On April 10,
1952, she was united in marriage to
Norman L. Jobes at the First Presbyterian
Church in Atlantic, Iowa. They made their
home in Melvin where they raised their
family. In 1978, they moved to Hartley
after building their own home and later to
a rural acreage. In 2002, Janie and
Norman moved to Sibley. In July of 2018,
Janie moved from her home to Country
View Manor. Janie was active in the
church and the communities she lived in.
Over the years she worked at Tony and
Mary’s, the Double J/Pete’s, Gene’s
Foodland Deli, and volunteered as a
teacher’s aide for more than ten years at
Ben Franklin Elementary School. Janie was
a member of the First Presbyterian Church
in Sibley where she was blessed with a
wonderful church family. She enjoyed
crocheting/knitting, cross stitching,
reading, coloring, bird watching, and
camping. She is lovingly remembered for
sewing each of her daughters’ wedding
dresses. She loved spending time with her
family – children, grandchildren, and great
grandchildren – and many friends. Janie is
survived by her children, Cynthia (David)
Watson of Duluth, MN, Steven (Laura)
Jobes of Stewartville, MN, Angela (Dale)
Lewis of Marysville, KS, Rebecca (Armon)
Lansing of Villa Rica, GA, Elizabeth (Harold)
Dawson of Sibley, IA, Timothy Jobes of
Des Moines, IA, Amelia (Edward)
McLaughlin of Bellevue, NE, and David
(Angell) Jobes of Pleasant Hill, IA; 30
grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren;
and one sister, Ida (William) Seaberg of
Evergreen, CO. She was preceded in death
by her husband of 51 years, an infant son,
Jeffrey, her parents, Fletcher and Margaret
Bell, and one sister, JoAnn Bolton.
Blessed be the memory of Janie Jobes.
We give our Christian love and sincere
sympathy to the families of Bob Huls, 80,
who passed away at Sibley Specialty Care
on September 21. We especially pray for
peace and comfort for his wife, Janet, their
children, Dan (wife Jaime) Huls, Maribeth
(husband Mike) Appeldorn, Jennifer
(husband Jim) Watts, and Bob’s sister,
Phyllis (husband Ron) Huisinga, and their
families. His funeral service was held at
our church on September 25.
Robert Harold Huls was born February 23,
1938, at the family farm east of Sibley,
Iowa, the son of Vernon and Evelyn
(Cooper) Huls. He attended East Holman
Township country school. He was united in
marriage to Janet Uit deFlesch on
September 3, 1965 at First Baptist Church
in Worthington, MN. They made their
home on a farm near Fulda, MN until
1977, when they moved to the home farm,
east of Sibley, IA. They remained there
until 2002, when they moved to Sibley.
Bob continued farming with his son, Dan
until his health declined. In 2011, the Huls
Family Farm became a Century Farm. He enjoyed attending annual Threshing Bees,
Antique Tractor Pulls, farm sales, and
camping. Bob and Janet enjoyed many
trips with family and friends, especially
with the Voss family. He was very proud
of his grandchildren and enjoyed
spending time with them on the farm and
attending their activities. He is survived by
