2016 Dear Friends and Colleagues,
We are proud to provide you with our 2016 Brain Injury Association
of North Carolina Annual Report. As in years past, the report
highlights the incredible work performed by our highly capable staff
who are in support of individuals and family members who have
been affected by a brain injury.
Our organization continues to provide awareness activities
highlighting prevention and the need for additional supports and
services both nationally and locally. Through training, social media,
community partnerships, our quarterly newsletter and the
multitude of flyers, the Brain Injury Association has been able to
reach thousands of individuals with awareness and prevention
information across the state of North Carolina.
As you will see in the annual report, BIANC continues to fulfill our
ongoing brain injury support responsibilities by responding to the
multitude of inquiries for information and resources, providing
hundreds of training and educational programs, and hosting our
annual family and professional conferences. In addition, we
facilitated a Brain Injury Awareness Day at the North Carolina
General Assembly, coordinated with hundreds of volunteers to host
the three-day annual Camp Carefree retreat, partnered with our
first minor league baseball team for a Strike-Out-Concussion event
and participated in many other awareness and outreach events
across the state.
As we enter into 2017, we want to thank our survivors and family
members, state legislative leadership, Department of Health and
Human Services, corporate sponsors, and the Brain Injury
Association Board of Directors for their continued support and their
invaluable leadership in offering help, hope and a voice for persons
with a brain injury and their families.

The services that BIANC provides have been
beneficial to the work that we do for the Eastern
Carolina Injury Prevention Program at Vidant Medical
Center. They have certainly been a resource in
providing manpower to present concussion awareness
education to middle school students in Pitt
County. BIANC is an asset to our community and their
efforts around brain injury is exceptional.

The Brain Injury Association of North Carolina
partnered with the Unmasking Brain Injury Project.
The mission of Unmasking Brain Injury is to promote
awareness or the prevalence of brain injury.
The Brain Injury Association of North
Carolina provided me with a great deal of support
in helping me take over a support group. BIANC
met with me one-on-one and shared helpful
information. I was also invited to attend the annual
luncheon held by the Charlotte Support Group
Leaders which also provided me with a lot of great
information and tips to share as a support group
leader. I am also helping other support group
leaders in the North Carolina start their own
support group in their area.

Technological Updates
In 2016, BIANC staff contracted with a web-hosted service created and marketed by the Online
Services Division of Citrix Systems; GoToMeeting and GoToWebinar. GoToMeeting is an online
meeting, desktop sharing, and video conferencing software that enables users to meet with other
computer users, clients, or colleagues over the internet in real time. This software has given BIANC
staff the opportunity to host staff meetings and connect with anyone, anywhere on any device.
Similar to GoToMeeting, GoToWebinar is a web conferencing software that allows BIANC to present
online webinars to up to 1,000 attendees at a time. BIANC is offering a free webinar series for anyone
who is interested in 2017. Each webinar is facilitated by Resource and Training Coordinators. The
topics of these webinars include ‘Brain Injury Basics’ and ‘Strategies Webinars”.
